Horizon Fund What Now?Horizon Fund History

Do you want to spend some time overseas volunteering or working for a charity doing something to extend your skills?

The fund was started by Mavis Robson

If you have thought of doing such a project but need some support financially an application to the Horizon Fund could help you achieve your goals.

Past beneficiaries of the fund have spent time in Africa, Mongolia, USA (Camp America), Ghana and Mexico.

Complete the application form on the StudentNet (find it under ‘Get Involved’ and ‘Activities’)

Mavis worked at the college as a part-time language teacher, firstly teaching German then completing the TESOL qualifications and worked for many years as a part of the language team here at Darlington College. Mavis also went on many exchanges to Russia starting in 2000.

When Mavis left Darlington College she wanted to give something back and decided to set up The Horizon Fund - the idea being to widen the horizons of young people at college to travel or to take part in activities they wouldn’t otherwise be able to do.

Mavis loves to hear about the trips our students have taken and see the photos on your return.

If you have an idea for a visit overseas or even in this country but don’t have the finances to help you, then consider an application tothe fund. When you have completed your application leave it at Reception marked Julie Davison, Student Services Manager or email it to [email protected]

You will then be asked to come along to a meeting to talk about your project ideas.

Good Luck!
