Performance NotesLike The Bread is based on Henri Nouwen’s book, “The Life Of The Beloved.” Lyricist Dr. TimCasey and I took the four basic concepts of the book—taken, blessed, broken, given—and formeda song for communion around them. Nouwen contends that these four ideas make up the Christianlife. We, like the bread on the altar, and as followers of Christ, are taken, blessed, broken andgiven to the world.
