WRITING We are learning to: Create instructions in procedure writing using bossy words and writing in the correct sequence. Add detail to make our writing more interesting. Produce quality handwriting in all writing in any subject area. Practice tricky words and practising spelling for commonly used words. Use adverbs, conjunctions and joining words to make our writing more interesting. LISTENING & TALKING We are learning to: Talk with our learning partners and group discussions. Develop our talking and listening skills through the Talking Box and giving individual research presentations: Give group presentations to talk about what we have learned. How can parents help Support spelling homework at home to help with spelling pattern and tricky words. Completing some of the suggested spelling activities at the front of the homework jotter. Try new spelling activities. Read and discuss stories at home. Think of questions to ask one another. MATHSNUMBER We are learning to:

Link the number of shared with the vocabulary of fractions (eg. “If I make 6 equal portions, then each portion is one sixth of the whole.”)

Identify halves and quarters on a number line. Count up in fractions, showing this on the numberline. Draw pictures to partition and re-partition amounts to show fractions

that are equivalent and record my answers using words (eg. 1 third = 2 sixths).

Compare the size of fractions. Identify and name coins and notes to £20. Read and write monetary values using the correct notation including

the decimal point (eg. 149p = £1.49 or 7p = £0.07). Work out mentally change from an amount up to £10. Use mental strategies to calculate the total spent in shopping

situations up to £10. Develop my addition and subtraction strategies. Give and follow verbal directions for a route using left, quarter turn

and anti-clockwise as part of the instructions.How can parents help Encourage your child to:

Practice the times tables at home. Use the mental maths homework bags. Use Sumdog at home. Identify shapes when you’re out and about.

HEALTH AND WELLBEINGPE with Mrs Sage:Activities: Football, Tag Rugby, Fitness – stability and agilitySHANARRI: Active, Respected and Responsible

I can pass the ball to my partner using the inside of my foot. I can stop a ball passed to me with various parts of my foot

(inside/outside/sole). I can run into space to receive a pass and I can pass the ball to my partner. I can watch the path of the ball. I can roll, throw and kick ball along the floor to partner. I can catch ball from partner and I can move to receive a pass. I can spin ball on the ground and I can place ball on ground to score a try. I can run into space to receive a pass. I can practise skills with a ball as I Run and I can practise my running skills in

order to beat an opponent.

We will continue to use our class Worry Monster to help lead our Health and Wellbeing learning.

We are going to develop our Emotional Literacy skills by continuing to focus on learning about the Zones of Regulation. The aim is to enable the children to build the skills to recognise, understand, handle and appropriately express emotions. The activities are designed to help the children build skills to identify and label their emotions, know how to handle and manage their emotions, build empathy and motivation, and build strategies to learn to handle relationships.- Every morning, we have the four zones boxes (blue, green, yellow and red)

where children can think about how they are feeling and check in emotionally.

- We will focus on learning new tools to help us regulate our emotions.- We will have different activities and discussions to build our emotional

literacy skills.

INTERDISCIPLINARY LEARNINGWe are continuing our topic Winter Festivals Around The World.

Explore Moray: From Farm to Product We are exploring the environment we live in to help build and understanding

and respect for our home.

We are developing our understanding the journey to create a product from the very beginning through production processes and to selling products.

We are learning about different produce available and created in Moray. We are learning research skills to find out about Moray and developing

presentation skills to share our findings. We are building our creativity through creating art linked to Moray landscape. We are understanding Moray’s place in Scotland and in the world. We are learning to identify risks and hazards for different places of work in

Moray and ensuring safe use of equipment and following instructions.

Robbie Burns Day (25th January 2020) We are understanding the significance of Robert Burns day. We are learning about the different activities that take place to celebrate

Robbie Burns Day. We are learning Scots Language by reciting a Scots poem: Tricks! or Ta-Ta

Thingummy.

Finance Week We are developing our understanding of the use of money, learning to budget

and to calculate costs. We are developing our understanding how finance impacts different areas of

our lives.

EXPRESSIVE ARTSART We are learning to blend and mix shades on paper and on

palettes. We are learning to plan the layout of our art. We are developing our understanding and experience of using

textiles in art.DRAMA We are developing our presentation skills by reciting our Robert

Burns poetry to an audience.MUSIC Action songs and assembly hymns.

Learning to identify elements of music: rhythm, beat, tempo and dynamics.

RME (RELIGIOUS AND MORAL EDUCATION) We will continue to explore and discuss values and beliefs through stories from

world religions. We are learning to explain key features in world religions. We are learning to compare features of different world religions.

SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGIES (INCLUDING ICT) We are exploring the forces exerted by magnets on other magnets/magnetic

materials. We are learning how magnets are used in everyday life. We are learning different ways of producing sound from vibrations. We are learning to demonstrate how sounds can be made higher or lower pitch by

altering tightness, width, length or thickness of the sound source.

We are developing ICT skills by learning to use different functions in PowerPoint (add new slide, bullet points, changing size, font, colour and inserting pictures).

SKILLSWe are learning to:

Develop our research, ICT and presentation skills by creating and sharing a PowerPoint which shares our research into Moray’s produce.

Identify risks and hazards and ensure safe use of equipment and following instructions in school and out of school.

Develop our Inquiry and Investigative skills by identifying questions about scientific investigations, making predictions and contributing to the design of procedures for carrying out investigation

Transition between tasks quickly and quietly. Identify and label how we are feeling and discussing our preferred tools to help

us regulate our emotions. Develop our emotional literacy skills and expand our vocabulary around

emotions to help us identity how we are feeling and also new learn tools to help us self-regulate.

Just as we did in term 2, we will continue to set a practical target each week for the children to meet which links to our classroom charter and our school values. To ensure the learning is child-led and child-centred, at the start of each week, the children will discuss and decide what their whole class target will be.
