HOPEFUL NEW BEGINNINGS Best of Show Karen Petrovich, "Deep in Thought"Strong composition! The morning (or evening) lighting is well done and consistent throughout. Reads well, strongly from a distance and also has detail to hold your attention and curiosity. Felt “optimistic” and forward-looking. (also well photographed.)
First Place Jane Bradley, The Riding LessonA sense of caring and teaching the next generation. Soft, emotion-provoking. Composition well done — a tough “centered”, balanced one that can be hard to make work. Well crafted.
Second Place Robbie Fitzpatrick, A Pit Bull's HopeWho wouldn’t feel that there is about to be a new beginning for this dog. Wether new to the litter, the family or about to be adopted, it tugs on the heartstrings. Very masterfully rendered.
Third Place Ginger Whellock, A Quiet PlaceStrong composition. Nice capture of the light and spring colors. Warm, hopeful feel. Captures the essence of the theme.
Honorable Mention Priya Ahlawat, New York City LightIntriguing composition and point of view. Here’s hoping for new light and beginnings in midst of the city. A strange calmness to the hustle and bustle. And a different “take” on the theme.
Honorable Mention Terry Denson, Ancestors and Orchids(Often commonly called “Moth Orchids” or “Butterfly Orchids”) Excellent composition with the panoramic format. Well rendered and beautiful white on white color treatment as well as a visual play on the butterfly/moth wings and the petals.Flowers and butterflies are always morphing and symbolic of beginnings.
Honorable Mention Jill Banks, Making MemoriesMasterful composition and quick alla prima sketch. Children at play always feel like new beginnings as does the spring color palette. Theme oriented.
Honorable Mention (I just HAD to include this one) Debbie Richmond, Winter MatesSoft, caring mood and lighting. Well rendered animals, especially the reindeer. Hopeful.
