The 1952-1953 Blue Demon squad was led by Ron Feiereisel’s 18 points per game with guard Jim Lamkin scoring 15.3 per game. They finished 19-9 and won their first round game in the NCAA tourna-ment, defeating Miami (Ohio), 74-72. Ron Feiereisel graduated as the school’s second-leading scorer. In addition, he was named the Most Valuable Player of the Chicago Stadium doubleheader series during the 1951-1952 season. Feiereisel was the captain of the 1953 NCAA Tournament team. After graduation, he served as the head coach of the DePaul women’s basketball team.

Has-senmiller still owns the school record for points in a game when she tossed in 42 to lead the Blue Demons past Valparaiso in the tittle game of the 1991 North Star Conference Tournament. Hassenmiller finished her career with 1,600 career points, ninth in the school’s history. The Blue Demons enjoyed a successful season with a 19-12 record, 11-3 in the North Star Conference, tied for the third place.

Bob Big Bucks, a representative of athlet-ics interests (booster), owns a dry cleaning store.

He gave Randy, a student-athlete, a discount on his dry cleaning bill as he wants to help Randy out in a little way as Bob remembers putting himself through college as well.

Is this permissible according to NCAA rules?

This arrangement would not be permissible.

A student-athlete may not receive a special discount, payment arrangement, or credit on a pur-chase (e.g. airline ticket, clothing) or a service (e.g. laundry, dry cleaning) from an institutional employee or booster.

Professional services provided at less than the normal rate or at no expense to a student ath-lete are considered an extra benefit unless they are available on the same basis to the general student body. Therefore, the only way Bob Big Bucks could provide a discount to Randy is if he is advertising such a discount to all DePaul students.

As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact our Director of Compliance, Doug Bakker at [email protected] or 773-325-4019.

Thank you for supporting the Blue Demons!

DEPAUL BLUE DEMONS (4-4 BIG EAST, 16-6 OVERALL)STARTERS: The No. 23/22 DePaul women’s basketball team returns to the hardwood at McGrath-Phillips Arena for an 8 p.m. BIG EAST Conference showdown with No. 16/14 Louisville on Jan. 31. Tuesday’s game will be broadcast live on CBS Sports Network with Jason Knapp and Tammy Blackburn calling the action courtside. Cami Padilla and Trish Babcock will call the game for DePaul’s BlueTube while GameTracker is also availablefrom www.DePaulBlueDemons.com. In-game notes and scoring updates can also be followed on twitter.com/DePaulWBBSID. The Blue Demons (16-6, 4-4 BIG EAST) are in the middle of a stretch that sees them play five ranked opponents in six games. DePaul hosted No. 3/3 Connecticut (Jan. 21), traveled to No. 11/12 Rutgers (Jan. 24), hosts Louisville on Tuesday and travels to No. 2/2 Notre Dame on Feb. 5. The Blue Demons are 1-3 against ranked teams this season with its win coming at then-No. 15/16 Georgetown on Jan. 3. Tuesday’s game is the 28th meeting between the Blue Demons and Cardinals with DePaul holding a slight 14-13 series advantage. DePaul is 8-5 in games played in Chicago includ-ing four of the last five. Louisville won the series only meeting last season in Kentucky, 68-55 on Feb. 21. Tuesday’s game marks the first of two games between the Blue Demons and Cardinals. DePaul travels to Kentucky for an 11 a.m. game on Feb. 25. On the year, Anna Martin’s 18.6 points per game ranks second in the BIG EAST Conference while Brittany Hrynko (11.0) and Jasmine Penny (10.2) joined Martin in double-figures. Martin’s .430 (46-for-107) 3-point field goal percentage is the best in league while Penny’s .588 (87-for-148) field goal percentage is also tops the conference. Katherine Harry, who has reached double-figure rebound totals in her last two games, is averaging 8.9 rebounds per game which ranks sec-ond in the conference. Harry is recording a league-best, 9.8 rebounds in conference games. DePaul enters Tuesday’s game after snapping its 3-game losing streak at Seton Hall on Jan. 28. The Blue Demons were paced by Penny’s 19 points while Martin added 18 against the Pirates. Harry recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 13 points and 13 rebounds.

NOTING THE BLUE DEMONSDePaul is 698-399 (.636) all-time... the 2011-12 campaign is the 37th season of women’s basketball at DePaul University... since the start of the 2003-04 season (284 games), the Blue Demons have held 65.8 percent of their opponents to less than 70 points (187-of-284)... in that span, DePaul is 159-28 (.850) when holding opponents to less than 70 points... in that same time span, DePaul has scored 70 or more points in 187 games... DePaul is 164-23 (.877) when scoring 70 plus points... in the last seven plus sea-sons (253 games), the Blue Demons are 181-72 (.715)... in the last 72 home games against conference opponents, DePaul has posted 60 victories... over the last ten plus seasons (376 games), DePaul has scored at least 80 points in 124 games... the Blue Demons hold a 119-5 (.959) record in those games... in the same span, DePaul is 52-1, including 50 straight wins, when scoring at least 90 points.

IT COULD HAPPEN:Coach Doug Bruno could win his 544th career coaching victory and 504th at the collegiate level… with one 3-pointer it would run DePaul’s streak to 82 consecutive games with a 3-pointer… Katherine Harry needs two blocks to tie Felicia Chester (129) for fourth on DePaul’s all-time blocks list.

HOME COOKIN’Through 11 plus seasons, McGrath-Phillips Arena - formerly known as the DePaul Athletic Center - has proven itself as one of the toughest ven-ues in the nation. The Blue Demons have posted a 144-22 (.867) record in the arena’s 166 games. DePaul’s .866 winning percentage entering the 2011-12 season ranked seventh among all active arenas. There have been three perfect seasons at McGrath-Phillips Arena-- DePaul went 13-0 in 2002-03, 14-0 in 2004-05 and 17-0 in 2010-11. In its 37th season of women’s basketball at DePaul University, the Blue Demons have an all-time home court record of 408-106 (.793). Over 26 seasons at Alumni Hall, the women’s basketball program won over 75 percent of its games with a 242-80 all-time record.
