Hiram Bronson Granbury

Our city is named after this Confederate general who led the Texas Brigade during the Civil War.

General Granbury died in the Battle of Franklin in Tennessee in November of 1864. He was buried in Columbia, Tennessee, but re-buried in the Granbury Cemetery in 1893.

General John Bell Hood

Our county is named after this Confederate general who commanded the army of Tennessee during the Civil War.

Abel Landers: First Hood County Judge

This man was the first Hood County Judge and was instrumental* in selecting the site for the town of Granbury.

*He selected land that belonged to his family (the Nutt family) causing arguments and disputes among other community members.

A.J. Wright: First Hood County Sheriff

This man was a captain in the Confederate Army and when Hood county was organized in 1866, he was elected sheriff.

Captain W.L Bond: Established First Newspaper

This man established the first newspaper, “The Granbury Vidette”.

Ashley Crockett (grandson of Davy Crockett) took over “The Vidette” and changed the name to “Granbury Graphic”.

DR. EDWIN AUGUSTUS HANNAFORD: Established First Pharmacy

This man was a pharmacist and opened the first drugstore under a tent. This a picture of his home located in Granbury.
