Marshmallow is a pelican. He enjoys being with thevolunteers and he loves to be the center of attention.
He is important to Hoo Haven and what we do. Heis one of our educational animals that we use to stressthe importance of protecting wildlife.

The word Hoo in ourorganization name is in honor ofJesse, our first great-horned owl.He was also the first bird wetrained for educational programs.
An anonymous caller contacted usto see if we would like to use Jessefor teaching purposes. Days later,Jesse arrived in a box, on ourdoorstep.
WhatWeDoWe are a team of committed individuals dedicatedto treat any North American animal in need ofhelp in the Illinois, Southern Wisconsin and Iowaregions. We also educate people about theimportance of protecting wildlife and their naturalhabitat.
Meet Peace
We give educational presentations with ourGreat Ambassadors, animals trained for
educational purposes, that join us when we givepresentations. We teach all age groups aboutthe importance of conserving and preserving
exotic animals and their rightful habitat.
We rely on donations and volunteers to helpcare for our critters.
HowWeDoItIf need be, we will come to you if you report aninjured or sick animal.
Prepare a container:Inside the container,place a clean, soft cloth. Make sure it has nostrings or loops. Create air holes if needed. Tryto mimic a cat/dog carrier.
For the animal:Using gloves, cover theanimal with a light sheet or towel, gently pick it
up and put it in the container.
Note: If it is a larger or dangerous animal suchas a coyote or fox, contact us. We will pick it
up!Even if its in the early hours of the morning, wewill do our best to go to you.

Peace is an American bald eagle. Hehas been recuperating with us since hewas shot down near the Illinois Riverlast October. Peace fractured a bone inhis wing. It required six pins to hold itinto place.
In 2004, we earned the right tobecome the official recovery center foreagles by the U.S. Fish and WildlifeService.
Jesse is the reason why we do educational programs.She is also one of the reasons our educational programshave been so successful.
