Revised July 2017 Honors Directed Individual Study (DIS) The Honors DIS is intended to be a project that meets the following five standards: The work must demonstrate intellectual initiative; The work must demonstrate engagement with the scholarship in the subject of the DIS, whether the work of the DIS is research or creative activity; The DIS must be graded (A-F); The DIS must be directed by a permanent member of the teaching faculty. An assistant, associate, or full professor would qualify. The DIS must involve at least thirty (30) hours of work for each credit hour awarded. Students register for a graded DIS in the appropriate department no later than the fourth day of classes of the semester in which the DIS will begin. The DIS must be created using the department's course number for a DIS, not Honors thesis credit. Individual Honors-Augmented Course Honor students may earn up to eight (8) individual Honors-augmented credit hours in 2000-4000 level, non-Honors courses in their major or minor by contracting with faculty to complete additional work in the courses. Students must receive a course grade of B- or higher. The Honor student must satisfactorily complete all the regular course requirements plus 1) an extra research, writing, or creative project; or 2) additional readings with an appropriate evaluative component; or 3) any other reasonable assignment on which the student and faculty member agree. The student and faculty are expected to meet at least twice during the semester to discuss progress on the Honors requirements. 1. Meet with the faculty and express your interest in a DIS or individual Honors-augmented course. 2. Discuss and determine Honors requirements for the course. 3. Complete and submit form by appropriate deadline to the Honors Office. There are no exceptions. 4. Upon completion of the course and contracted Honors requirements, meet with the faculty to confirm Honors credit with the confirmation form. Honors Directed Individual Study (DIS)The Honors DIS is intended to be a project that meets the following five standards:

Confirmation of Honors Credit for Honors DIS or Individual Honors

Augmented Course

Faculty Member Procedure

Discuss and approve Honors requirements for the course with the student.

Review and sign the contract once completed by the student.

Assign a grade for the course based on the standard course requirements/criteria and independent of the contracted Honors requirements.

Once the Honors requirements are completed, determine if the work fulfills the contract and that Honors credits are merited. Complete and submit the confirmation of Honors Credit by the Friday after the grade submission deadline if Honors credits are merited.

This signed form may be faxed to (850) 644-2101, emailed to [email protected] or sent through campus mail to FSU Honors Office at the Honors, Scholars, and Fellows House Mail Code 1234.

The Honors requirements were satisfactorily completed. and Honors credits should beawarded.
