Dear Members,

Greetings and best wishes for a very happy and prosperous new year!

The celebrations of X mas and new year at the club had a fitting start with the annual cake mixing ceremony of our famous “ PC Cake “ on the 12th Dec .This was attended by both adults as well as children who all donned their baking aprons and hats and tried their hands in mixing! Lots of X mas cheer and cherries left everyone happy!

The Italian food festival from the 18th - 20th Dec was a huge success, so we have retained the chefs and made use of the spare kitchen to bring to you gourmet delights on a regular basis.

Annual Tennis Tournament between Madras Gymkhana Club and our Club was held on 19th Dec. Rolling trophy instituted.

The X mas carnival for the children on the 23rd Dec was great fun for both the parents and the children. Bouncing castles, car games, tattoo art, musical chairs, cake and last but not least, Santa Clause of the club - Chirag Batavia giving out candy and goodies spread happiness all around! The ‘roast turkey’ of the club was well appreciated by members.

The Bar Nite on the 26th Dec brought to us great melodies from the Blue Rondo - The crossover jazz band. The ambience was perfect and everyone was in high spirits! Paired with the introduction of some fine imported spirits from Bacardi and Martini, the event was a huge success!

I know all of you had a wonderful time at ‘Glitzkreig’ our club’s new year eve celebrations on the 31st Dec. The live kebab corner, welcome drinks, lavish pool side spread, super star singers and dancers, DJ and fireworks made a fitting end to 2009 and begin 2010 with pomp and splendor!

The 5th Edition of members’ directory will be distributed to all the members shortly and a nominal cost of Rs.100/- will be debited to your account. I hope the directory will help to build connections between members. I would like to congratulate the editor for the time and research put in to make the directory informative.

Reciprocal clubs are popular and valuable part of membership and the committee looks forward to hearing the views of members on their visit to any of these clubs.

Club functions are occasions which lend themselves to good conversation and an excellent way to meet fellow members and I look forward to seeing you at our next club event.

While Pallavi and Mayukh of Sari – Gama Channel V fame, sang some of the popular Hindi numbers, Airtel super singers Madhu and Santhosh sang popular Tami numbers. Beautifully choreographed dances by Sushant and Group were well appreciated.

It was then DJ Rahul’s turn to set the dance floor on fire.

NEW YEAR EVEThe New Year eve celebration was a huge success and excellent arrangement s were made for entertainment, fellowship and dinner. The beautifully lit stage, the vast expansive dance floor with colourful back drop and the special lighting arrangements at the entire club, set the mood for the evening.

The countdown for 2010 began and the dance floor was jam packed with elders, younger ones and kids till the fire works heralded the advent of the new year.The arrangements for dinner at poolside was excellent and the spread was superb , thanks to Dr. Shivram Selvakkumar, MIC – Catering and the staff of the catering department. Thanks are also due to the entire managing committee and the sub committee members of Entertainment for their valuable inputs and advice in making the event a grand success.

SNOOKER AND BILLIARDS TOURNAMENTSThe 13th Lanson Toyota handicap snooker and billiards tournament was inaugurated in the snooker room of The Presidency Club on 1st Dec 2009 by our President Mr.Ranjit Jacob and Mr.Lanka Lingam Chairman of Lanson Toyota along with our office bearers and Committee members.

The tournament kick started with Mr.Ranjit Jacob and Mr.Lankalingam playing a few shots on the table which was followed by snacks and tea.

The matches were played for 13 days.

The winner of the Billiards match was Mr.Chetan Naik, Runners up was Mr.Siva and the highest break was made by Mr.Nitin Bindal.

The winner of the Snooker finals was by Mr.Chirag Kriplani, runners up was Mr.Madanmohan and the highest break was made by Mr.Chirag Kriplani.

The number 13 was lucky for us because it was the 13th Lanson Toyota tournament played on 13th December 2009.

The presentation ceremony was held at the poolside which was attended by our Vice president Mr.Ramachandaran, Hony. Secretary Mr.Chander Treasurer Mr.Ramani and other commitee members. Mr.Subramani, senior manager sales and marketing of Lanson Toyota was also present.

The presentation was followed by cocktails & dinner along with a musical karoke by Sunandita and group. Quite a few of our members sang and made it a wonderful evening.

Special thanks to the tournament Director Mr. Hiranand who organized the event from start to finish and made it a memorable one.

The Third Edition of The Presidency Club Inter Club T20 Cricket Tournament 2009 Concluded on the 22nd Dec 2009 with the prize distribution function at the pool-side with excellent music and good inter club camaraderie.

The Madras Gymkhana Club lifted the trophy for the second time in a row. Well done Gymkhana. The runner was The Mylapore Club who have recently come into the inter Club cricket circuit.

The man of the series award was presented to Asif Ali the captain of Madras Gymkhana Club - 180 runs & 6 wickets.The best batsman Award went to Mahadevan of Alumni Club.The best Bowler Award went to Sandeep of The Mylapore Club.

Bacardi Bar NiteIt was a cool December evening at the beautifully lit terrace on 26th Dec. Blue Rondo - The Crossover Jazz band from Bangalore took the stage and played pieces that spelt class. Madhuri on vocals, Jagdeesh on acoustic guitars, Prijou on keyboard, Victor Francis on drums and Wilson Kenneth on bass enthralled the audience with some of the beautiful numbers.

The enchanting evening also witnessed the introduction of some of the finest imported spirits and vodkas at the club such as Dewar’s whiskey, Bacardi Rum, Grey Goose Vodka, Bombay Sapphire Gin and Martini. The programme was sponsored by Aspri Spirits.
