CoconThe Cocon series consist of three basic

configurations:

1) AS: Active regulator + Slam shut valve

2) AM: Active regulator + Wide-open

All can be fitted with manual inlet valves

to block a stream or pneumatically actu-

Active regulator valve can perform open

or close action upon failure, depending on

CoconThe Cocon series underground pressure reduction unit consists

of several effective high pressure regulators, monitors and slam

shut valves combined in one easy-to-install cartridge, for use

in gas transmission systems, gas distribution networks and in-

dustrial take-offs.

Being installed underground, the Cocon will have a very low

impact on direct vicinity in terms of sound, looks and mainte-

nance/inspection nuisance. Downtime is reduced to a minimum

with the cartridge-exchange concept and maintenance can be

done under controlled environment in workshop, whilst the sta-

tion remains operational. Lockable lid makes for vandalism and

terrorism proof installation.

The Cocon series underground concept has demonstrated its

quality and usability for over 15 years in both industrial and ur-

ban areas worldwide.

Units consist of underground body with lightweight or

heavy-duty cover, one or two regulating cartridges (depending

on version) in parallel formation and external vent stack for safe

compartment ventilation and optional safety relief, supplied with

pilots and are suitable for an inlet pressure up to 100 bar(g) and

an outlet pressure range of 10mbar(g) up to and including 80

bar(g).

A mesh/felt filter is mounted onto the cartridge, and is thus re-

moved from the body simultaneously. The filter prevents debris

from reaching the valve seat where it could cause

damage and/or leakage.

The Cocon regulating unit is a double path

pilot controlled pressure regulator

featuring fast acting main line valve

(direct or P-action) and highly ac-

curate pilot (indirect or I-action). The

direct acting part is extremely fast,

while the pilot minimises set point

deviations.

configurationsfeatures

general

>> Low maintenance costs

> Long service / maintenance interval> Minimal on-site works> No digging or paving required> Body and block valves remain in line> Use of economical materials

>> Modular construction

> Cartridge configurations are interchangeableas a whole

>> Special patented valve seat

> Erosion-free enclosure of seat ring> Bubble tight, even at low temperatures

>> Integrated safety valves

> Over- and under pressure protection> Protected against diaphragm or sense line failure

>> Fully self-supporting

> Motorisation energy from pressure differential, no ex- ternal power (electrical or pneumatic) needed

>> Public area integration

> Lockable heavy duty cover enables safe installationin streets, side walks, parks and other public areasand allows for traffic to run over the station

>> Excellent control characteristics

> High degree of control accuracy (≤1%)> Low lock-up pressure (≤2.5%)> Fast response> Minimal set point deviation due to a two-stage pilot

>> Less sensitive to contamination

> In line filter mounted onto cartridge> Filter coalescer available to clear pilot gas of

condensate> Pilots equipped with in line filter

controlled regulator and a slam type safety

shut-off valve. The outlet pressure is set

using the pilot after which the regulator

-motorised by inlet pressure gas- will pro-

duce a levelled outlet pressure. Should the

outlet pressure rise above or drop below a

pre-set threshold, the slam shut valve will

close up, creating a bubble tight seal. The

slam shut valve can be fitted with proxi-

mity switches to allow remote monitoring.

Mechanical indicator to allow for local mo-

nitoring comes standard.

Cocon AMThe Active regulator + Wide-open (Pas-

sive) Monitor configuration features an

active, pilot controlled regulator like the

AS version, but instead of a slam shut

valve, a second regulator, the Monitor, is

fitted upstream of the Active regulator. A

monitor is an emergency regulator that

is activated immediately after the Active

regulator fails open. In contrast to other

safety devices, such as safety shut-off or

safety cut-off devices, the gas supply is

not interrupted if the Active regulator fails

open. The exterior construction of the

AM cartridge is uniform to the AS confi-

guration, enabling different configurations

to be installed in one Cocon body, thus

providing high flexibility in station configu-

ration.

Cocon AMS

The Active regulator + Wide-open Monitor + Slam shut valve configuration combines both of the above mentioned options, re-sulting in a complete pressure reducing stream with double pressure protection,

again in a externally uniform sized car-tridge, to be installed in the same Cocon body.

HPSDA High Pressure Shut Down can be fitted (single or double execution) to control a pneumatically operated inlet ball valve using inlet pressure. The ball valve actuator can be fit-ted with position indicator to allow both local and remote monitoring.

Double sealed compartment The instrumentation compartment

is protected against ingress of dirt,

moisture and debris by a double

seal, greatly reducing equipment

failure. The top cover, either light-

weight for easy access or heavy

duty for traffic run over, provides

the first barrier. Underneath is a

heavy duty transparent cover, allo-

seal. The in- and outlet valves can

be operated without the need to

remove this inner cover.
