MIET believes in empowering students with knowledge and skills so that they can face the challenges of the competitive world and become self reliant. In order to enhance the employability of its students, MIET runs various short term training and skill development program throughout the year e.g. GATE classes, Aptitude Training, Software coding skills, Soft Skills and other department specific skilling courses are a regular feature at MIET. State-of-the-art labs have been set-up in collaboration with companies like IBM, WIPRO and Microsoft. IBM Bluemix Cloud computing lab and BIG Analytic lab have recently been established as the first of its kind lab in North India enabling students to practise the next-gen of programming skills. MIET students have done the Institute proud by their achievements, winning three national innovation based competitions in year 2014. Three teams of MIET were among the top 13 teams in IBM’s TGMC 2013 contest. MIET Girls Team won “All Girls Team” event and overall stood at second position nationally. IBM declared MIET ‘Among Top 50 Institute of India’ owing to the feats achieved by MIET students. MIET has also been nominated as one among 11 top rated institutes of India by Wipro. MIET won the prestigious nomination of Wipro Earthian College 2014. Not only this, MIET students won scholarships as well as VC funding for their innovations in mobile computing displayed at IIT Delhi and Bangalore.

DIRECTOR GENERAL

Er. Gaurav Agarwal, Vice Chairman of MIET Group of Institutions, has graduated with B. Tech. (E.E.) from IIT, Kanpur and Master of Science (Electrical Engineering & Computer Sciences) from University of California, Berkeley. Post his engineering education, he worked in the Silicon Valley for over 2 years in a Hi-Tech Chip Design Company where his efforts were recognized and the company won two patents based on his work.

In order to expand his understanding of the business world, he joined the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore in 2004 where he was awarded the Gold Medal by Shri. Sunil Bharti Mittal for standing first in the Class of 2006. He then joined Barclays Capital, the Investment Banking division of Barclays Bank in London where he worked in various capacities until 2009.

Lt. Gen. J.M. Garga is known for his clockwork precision in the work undertaken. He possesses extraordinary judgmental skills, flawless administrative penetrability, rational thinking and benevolence. No wonder, “DG Sir” is not only much admired and revered by one and all at MIET but has also instilled academic excellence throughout the student fraternity by constantly motivating students to do better than the best.

He was first selected in IIT, Kharagpur on merit in 1957 and then switched over to University of Roorkee from where he graduated in 1960. He did his Post Graduation in M.E. (Process Design) in first class with distinction from Kanpur where he stood first and also obtained record percentage.

His wide experience as an officer of repute in the armed forces & other equally prestigious assignments thereafter, has earned him accolades from all quarters that has given him an edge of an extra understanding befitting to his illustrative career, that he has proved then, during leading many delegations to countries like USA, France, Holland, Spain, England etc, and now, shaping MIET Group into its glittering present state.

Dr. Mayank Garg, Director of the Institute has done his graduation in Mechanical Engineering from Nagpur University, Nagpur and did his M.E. and Ph. D. from IIT Roorkee, Roorkee formerly University of Roorkee. He received University Medal in M.E. degree program for standing first class with distinction. He was direct awardee of Senior Research Fellowship and Research Associateship of CSIR, Human Resource Development, New Delhi. He has various publications in acknowledged national and international journals. He has presented many research papers in National Seminars. After eleven years of research experience he has been Assistant Professor, Professor and Head in Department of Mechanical Engineering in some of the premier institutes. He was also engaged in designing and developing lab equipments, UG Laboratories and Workshops. He is strongly dedicated to promote the aim of Institute to achieve academic excellence. He is committed to his students to provide them quality technical education, academic discipline, streamlined infrastructure, and congenial environment for studies.

The role of a great Placement Cell is not only to explore the career opportunities for the students but also to provide feedbacks from industries on skill gaps to the Institution for suitable remedial actions. This process helps in making the students more “industry-ready” while ensuring that the right students are picked up for the right jobs.

Mrs. Akanksha Agarwal, Director – T & P at MIET, since the very first graduating batch, plays an instrumental role in identifying and suggesting the areas the students need to be trained to make them industry-ready and employable. She takes the lead in presenting the talented MIETians to various industry champions, and convincing them that MIETians will be an excellent addition to their Industry.

Why study Biotechnology at MIET?

Department of Biotechnology at MIET (DBT-MIET), Meerut is one of the premier departments in Biotechnology education & research under Dr. APJAK Technical University, Lucknow. The department was established with the aim to be a “Center of Excellence” by imparting quality education, developing vision and research skills in young Biotechnocrats. MIET was the first to introduce B.Tech Biotechnology in the year 2001, subsequently; M.Tech Biotechnology was started in 2005 to facilitate higher studies and research. DBT-MIET is an approved research centre for conducting Ph.D. by erstwhile MTU, Noida in 2013. DBT-MIET is furnished with a number of sophisticated instruments and cutting edge laboratories which are prerequisites for practical learning. DBT-MIET offers an excellent opportunity to students to craft a successful career in the area of Stem cells, IPR, Diagnostics, Pharmaceuticals & Clinical Research, Food, Agriculture, Bioinformatics & Environmental industries.

Faculty & Research

DBT-MIET is the temple of research and development. Various research projects have been carried out by the students under the guidance of highly qualified, experienced & specialized faculty in different areas of Biotechnology. More than 50 research papers are published by DBT faculty members in National/International journals of repute and presented in conferences in past three years.

Facilities:

The department is well equipped with “state of the art” laboratories that are well complemented with qualified and competent supporting staff. Some of these laboratories include: Analytical and Biochemistry Lab, Bioprocess and Protein Engineering Lab, Genetics and Molecular Biology Lab, Cell and Microbiology and Bioinformatics Lab etc. Resarch laboratories include: Medical Biotechnology and Translational Research Laboratory, Nanobiotechnology Research Laboratory and Plant Tissue Culture Research Facilty.

These laboratories boast to have high end and cutting edge technology equipments like: Inverted Fluorescence Microscope, Refrigerated Centrifuge, UV-Vis. Spectrophotometer, HPLC, Lypholizer, Fermenter, Gel Imager System, ELISA Reader, PCR thermocycler etc.

A departmental society of students and faculty; MIET Biotechnology Society (MBS) regularly conducts seminars, conferences, workshops and competitions throughout the year and publishes departmental magazine – Biotaction.

New Initiatives:

• DBT-MIET is the first to introduce Stemformatics in UP (2016).

• A fungus isolated in the department is named on MIET (Mucor imietiana) in 2012.

• Nanobiotechnology Research Laboratory was developed under the grant for project Women Scientist Scheme A (WOSA) sanctioned by Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India with a total allocation of Rs 28,38,000 for three years w.e.f. August, 2015

• A pilot project on aquaponics organic agriculture has been established in the department (2016).

MIET offers provisions for ‘Skill Enhancement Training’ (SET) that caters to a number of industry oriented courses and software, during the vacations to make its students rise a step ahead than their counterparts. About Chemical Engineering

Chemical Engineering programme educates budding engineers to design, develop, and operate chemical processes by which chemicals, petroleum products, food, pharmaceuticals and consumer goods can be produced economically and safely with minimal environmental impact. Chemical processes involve reactions, heat transfer, separations and biological phenomena to produce useful and valuable products. Chemical engineering differs from chemistry and applied chemistry programmes with the emphasis on industrial applications of chemical reactions, separations and techniques for designing and operating economical, safe and environmentally benign processes.

About Civil Engineering

Civil engineering is a professional engineering discipline that deals with the design, construction, and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment, including works like roads, bridges, canals, dams, buildings and treatment plants. Civil engineers work closely with surveyors and specialized civil engineers to design grading, drainage, pavement, water supply, sewers, service dams, electric and communications supply. Applying the principles of geotechnical engineering, structural engineering, environmental engineering, transportation engineering and construction engineering to residential, commercial, industrial and public works projects of all sizes and levels of construction is the sole reason why a civil engineer exists as an engineer.

MIET provides a course of Bachelor in Technology in Mechanical Engineering focusing on overall development of the student. Dr. Sanjeev Maheshwari is an excellent administrator, eminent academician and above all a true humanitarian. Before getting his PhD degree, he received his M.E degree in Electronics from Government College of Engineering, Aurangabad and B.E degree from Shivaji University in 1988. Before presiding over as the Director of MIT, he had served the MIET Group for 15 years in different capacities like Dean (Academics), Center Superintendent of Examination, Dean (Research) and mentored many students of M. Tech and B. Tech. At MIT, he has built a niche for exploring new ideas and his exceptional ability to eke out the hidden talent of students is an unparalleled quality in this person.

MIET Kumaon, an institute of MIET Group, came into existence in Year 2011 with an aim to mould talented students into qualified engineers to meet the ever-growing demand for engineers in the industries located in Uttarakhand especially SIDCUL (Rudrapur). MIET Kumaon is affiliated to Uttarakahand Technical University, Dehradun and Kumaon University, Nainital.

The flagship Institute of MIET Group, namely Meerut Institute of Engineering & Technology (MIET) was established in 1997 as the fourth oldest self-financed engineering college in Uttar Pradesh. Lecture Hall

Lecture Hall and rooms are architecturally and aesthetically well designed and are well ventilated. Moreover, the faculty adopts not simply the traditional lecture methodology, but also holds group discussions, quiz sessions, debates and other learner-centered modules. Various other audio-visual aids are also used to enrich the teaching processes.

Laboratory

MIET KUMAON has well equipped, spacious laboratories for all the subjects of engineering like Fluid Mechanics Lab, Automobile, Heat And Mass Transfer, Soil Mechanics, Hydraulics Lab, Surveying, Transportation Lab, Chemistry ,Electrical, Physics, Java Lab, C++ lab etc. to help students understand effectively, what they have learnt in the classroom. Experiments are so designed that the basic concepts are well understood by the students. Laboratories strive at making students rise to sublime heights with an unending desire for higher education and research work.

Library

The library has a wide collection of 6875 volumes of books divided into 1189 titles. These not only include textbooks, foundation books but also books on subsidiary readings. Our aim has been to meet course book requirement of students in full measures and in this direction we procure multiple number of books by various authors on the same subject. The library is organized on ‘Open Access System’. Students have full access to Book stacks to browse and select suitable books of their interest.

Transport

Presently, the bus facility is being provided from MIET Kumaon, Engineering College to all parts of Haldwani for picking up faculty, staff members and students. Students are charged on the basis of distances.

Amidst thunderous roars and bolstering applauses, Endura- MIET’s zonal sports fest transpires with a superbly pumped up atmosphere all set to inspire awe.Besides being host to one of the best athletes and competitors, Endura gives a chance to many “Dull Jacks” who leave their study for some time and enjoy. A computer science student was asked how he will bring Godzilla into existence. He said coolly “I’ll code the zilla” Now if going with the literal meaning of Godzilla, it is a monstrous dinosaur but it’s figurative meaning over here means a problem which is challenging.Welcome to the exalted shrine of any coder-Codezilla. Viraasat- SPICMACAY

If there is a tree, it may seem fully nourished and strong at the outset by portraying glossy green leaves, appetizing fruits and fragrant flowers. However, until its roots are strong and go deep into the ground, all those qualities will ultimately die away. Believing in this notion is SPICMACAY, a national level society of young enthusiasts who feel a responsibility towards their culture and aim at strengthening the roots of Indian Classical Background amongst the youth because having them acquainted with their roots which brought them up and nourished is a thing of paramount importance.So at MIET, SPICMACAY has been organizing various cultural programs under the banner of Viraasat in which eminent artistes come to perform for the delight of students, their own delight and to pay their debts to the rich cultural heritage and traditions to which SPICMACAY and these maestros feel indebted.

Rangotsava

A thing of beauty is a joy forever, wonderfully said by John Keats and beautifully brought to life by Graphite Art Land, the art society of MIET.As a child we used to play with colors and got ourselves all muddled up in them. Rangotsava makes us to relive those nostalgic memories by providing fun in art and thus providing an all new dimension to it. Stretching from the finesse artworks of budding artists to simplistic stick figures of men Rangotsava is a complete package. And then there’s Chitrayatra , their art gallery which follows it up and if allowed to brag, houses some of the finest artworks of today’s era made by the awesomely talented artists of Graphite Art Land. So come and immerse yourself in this exuberant fest of colors. Come one and all to Rangotsava!!

The brand ambassadors of peace and brotherhood in MIET who have been raising their voices against the vices of the society that are strangulating it. Ahimsa aims at creating awareness amongst the youth of MIET regarding sensitive issues that are out there at large and infect the community.Whenever the ugly head of evil would sneak up and haunt us, Ahimsa would always be there to have our back and behead it from its roots.

Abhivyakti

The female wing of the college’s literary committee that is out there to keep up the fiery spirit of competition alive and the torch of lit still burning.Reinforced with the spirit of women empowerment, Abhivyakti goes that extra mile to inculcate the seeds of fearlessness, justice and a sense of righteousness in the heart of girls that evolves them and invokes in them certain feelings that takes them one step closer to being a better human being and an honest individual.

Graphite Art Land

Nothing is as beautiful and creative in this world as the hands of an artist. And Graphite Art Land popularly known as GAL is full of such artists who have the power to bring even an ordinary piece of art to life.Having successfully organized several exhibitions at the college level, GAL has left no stone unturned in augmenting the level of art in MIET. For them art is not just something that involves straight lines and colors, but it’s a life giving force for them. Wellness Centre

A senior medical officer is available daily on each campus to provide medical consultation for students and staff. The medical officer also dispenses medicines free of cost for common ailments. In addition, the institute provides 24 hour ambulance service in association Dayanand Nursing Home located at Begum bridge, the heart of the town, to cope with any medical emergencies. MIETians are referred to Subharti Medical College and Hospital located close to the campus.

Cafeteria

A cafeteria is the best place to hang out for social gatherings since there is ample amount of space and presence of mouth-watering appetizers in close proximity. And for that MIET has not one, not two but 3 food joints. One is the native MIET Canteen, the other is Amul Canteen with lots of healthy stuff, and with a touch of exotic flavors and sensations is the third one- Italian Bistro.

MIET group provides on campus accommodation for students .The hostels are well equipped and furnished with single/double/triple/quadruple occupancy and internet connectivity. Rooms are furnished with beds, mattresses, study table and wardrobe. Gymnasiums are constructed for the fitness of the students since it’s a well-known fact that a healthy mind resides in a healthy body. Mess functions under the control of students on a co-operative basis.

Hostels


Computer Centre & Wifi Internet

MIET has more than 1700 3rd and 4th generation computers which are distributed throughout the departments for all of our students and also concentrated in a dedicated computer centre. Internet facility is available to students through a dedicated leased line of 120 MBps with an optical fiber serving as the backbone. MIET computer centre is well equipped with latest updated servers and an excellent security shield system. All labs in the Institute are on LAN and Wifi support is available throughout the campus for quick access to information.

MIET Club

MIET offers value-for-money facilities to its students by providing them a wonderful way to utilize their leisure time-MIET ClubHere you’ll find a fully furnished game arcade which one won’t find in any other college. Ranging from chess, carom to foosball, TT and then to royal flavors like Shooting and billiards. Everything is here under one roof.

Central Library

Library in all campuses provides an extensive range of online and hard copy resources. It is organized on an “Open Access System” having well-rounded collection of books on all subjects. It includes text books, foundation books and books for subsidiary readings. Besides books on engineering and technology, the library is fully equipped with books on Pharmacy, Biotechnology, MBA, MCA, Applied Science, Humanities and Social Sciences to enrich the knowledge of the students in liberal arts and humanities.Books / Journals: The MIET library alone has over 155000 volumes of books with more than 16000 titles on a plethora of subjects. To facilitate excellence in academics and research, the library subscribes to more than 350 International Journals and 300 National Journals in electronic and print format. McGraw Hill Engineering, Elsevier Science Direct, ASCE, ASME, Springer, IEEE, J-GATE, ASTM and these are just a few of them; there are various journals to help the students to attain a better view of understanding.

Bus

The institute has its own fleet of over 30 buses that ply on several routes across Meerut and its neighboring areas, serving both students and staff. Bus facilities are also available to students living in hostels to visit the city, students are charged on no profit no loss basis.

Post Office

Dept. of Postal and telegraph, India has established an independent post office with all postal facilities in campus named MIET post office with its pin code as 250005.
