Donor BikesThe kit is designed to fit the first generation Honda CX500 Models produced from 1978 - 1982.

What should I look for when choosing a donor bike ? ▪ Appearance is not very important, and a scruffy bike is often cheaper. ▪ Check the frame and engine numbers match the registration document. ▪ If possible buy a bike that is a runner so that you can listen to the engine

running before buying. A good CX motor is very quiet mechanically. ▪ Check the frame for rust … the engine mounts and rear loops in particular. ▪ Check the swinging arm for rust on the bridging piece and underneath the

shaft tube. ▪ If you can run the engine check for battery charge, you should get about

13.6V across the battery terminals. ▪ Twin discs are good but not essential, if the discs are less than 4mm thick

they need replacing and are quite costly…so haggle. ▪ Check the fork sliders for rust on the working part they are also quite costly…

more haggling required. ▪ See if there is any coolant in the radiator, if not there may be a leak. ▪ Check the colours of the oil & coolant, there should be no signs of cross

contamination. If there is the seal behind the water pump will need replacing. Will the kit fit the “Custom” models ?The kit can be adapted to fit onto the Custom Models but there are some differences which need to be considered.

• The instruments on the custom are bigger than those on the original CX so they don’t fit into the CRK housings.

• The fuel tank is a different shape and attaches to the frame using bolts at the front instead of rubbers. The rear tank mounting plate is in a different place on the frame. This can leave a gap between the front of the seat and the back of the fuel tank.

• There is a single front disk on some models.• The rear wheel has a 16 inch rim instead of 18 inch on the standard model. you

would need a pair of the original type like the photo attached or keep the custom ones.

These differences can all be addressed during the build and CRK have many customers who have used the Custom Model for their donor bike.

Will the kit fit the Eurosport, Silver Wing and Turbo models ?Unfortunately there are too many differences on the later CX Models so the CRK parts are not suitable for those.

Does the metalwork come ready painted ?No, because the parts have to be welded they are supplied in bare metal finish. It is assumed the frame will be re-painted after modification.

What is involved in carrying out the conversion ?The conversion requires that the rear of the frame is removed and replaced with the CRK unit.

The CRK metalwork is pre - fabricated and can be bolted in position before finally welding in place.

Is there any welding required ?Yes, the new frame bracket will need to be welded in place

Are there instructions with the kit ?Yes, there is a very detailed build manual provided with the kit. It takes you step by step through the whole process of building your bike. There are photographs of each stage in the build and it includes information about:

• Preparing the donor bike. • Installing the kit parts. • Wiring and connectors. • Tips and Tricks.

CRK are also available by phone or email to support you with more technical things you may not feel confident with.

Does the tank need to be altered ?No, the kit uses the original tank. You may choose to remove the original Honda badges and fill over the mountings if you want a cleaner look.

What equipment will I need to build the bike ?If you have a shed, garage or workshop, tools such as spanners, screwdrivers etc and some understanding of mechanical processes you will be able to manage the build. Most of our customers enjoy the experience of creating their bikes.

What do I do with all the parts after the strip down ?Sell them! This will help to fund your project.

How long does it take to supply the kit ? We are currently quoting 4 weeks delivery from receipt of deposit (£100). The balance of the order value becomes due when the parts are ready to ship. We can send out parts as they become available if you want to get going quicker and will just add a little extra carriage charge for this service.
