WHAT IS A HOMOPHONE?
A homophone is each of two or more
words having the same pronunciation
but different meanings, origins, or
spelling.
EXAMPLES OF HOMOPHONES
Ax and acts are spelled two different ways
and have different meanings, but are
pronounced the same way.
Paws and pause are spelled two different
ways and have different meanings, but are
pronounced the same way.
Flour and flower are spelled two different
ways and have different meanings, but are
pronounced the same ways.
Another example is plane and plain. They
are spelled the same way, and have different
meanings but are pronounced the same way.
