HOMEWORK WEEK 4, TERM 3 1. READING CONTRACT – You do not have to do this particular activity this week if you do not have
time. This is because there is a special competition this week for Book Week which you will do instead. See point 2.
2. BOOK WEEK AUTHOR POSTER COMPETITION -‐ You will design a poster on your favourite author. Not only is this part of your homework, but you could be eligible to receive a special prize on Friday during assembly if yours is the best in our class. Ideas of what you can put in your poster include – author biography, author style, books written by the author, why they are your favourite author overall, themes the author may tend to cover. Think about how you could present your poster. Be creative! IMPORTANT: You will have to hand your poster in Wednesday if you wish to be eligible to win.
3. MATHS – Complete the revision activities involving multiplication algorithms and the divisibility rules. Remember that there will be a mini test on your understanding on Friday.
4. GEOGRAPHY -‐ You will need to work on remembering all of the states and territories of Australia AND the names of the 7 continents of the world. You will also be quizzed on this on Friday!
5. POETRY RECITAL – Your last poetry recital will occur next week. Make sure you are ready on the day you are scheduled to share!
6. PERSONIFICATION POEM – In the style of Pie Corbett’s poem below, construct your own personification poem. Remember personification is the poetic technique used which gives inanimate (non-‐living) things human qualities). You can do your poem on anything you like that is inanimate though these topics might be easy as well as interesting to do: rainbow, tree, volcano, thunder, rain, Winter, Summer, the sun, the moon, stars etc. Remember to try and make your writing descriptive – metaphors, similes, descriptive words and imagery are wonderful tools to make your poetry shine!
Snow Snow waits in silence;
its cold, albino hands close, folding the landscape into silky sheets.
Snow drifts
shift down streets, sleet across city walls.
Snow falls like ghosts; greets your cheek with a frosted kiss.
Snow mists windows, covers lampposts, smothers rooftops.
Snow butterflies down,
crowning hedges. Snow edges icing onto cold cars.
Snow like frail stars
glitters on pavements, falls like soft moths.
