Lesson Objectives:

Recognise and use accurately, common marking out tools.

• Mark out your hardboard base with a marking gauge.

• Mark out your pine walls accurately.

• Cut your walls accurately and finish to length.

Steel Rule: For measuring and marking out dimensions accurately.

Try Square: For drawing perpendicular lines to a face edge. Usually used for wood products.

Marking Gauge: Marking lines parallel to an edge.

Tenon Saw: For cutting straight lines in wood

Disc Sander: Used for finishing wood and some plastics. You must wear goggles and an apron when using this machine.

• For accuracy, use a sharp pencil.

• Measure twice ; cut once.

• Do not sand past your line.

1. Use a marking gauge to scratch a 10mm border around your hardboard.

2. Measure out the 2 long sides and cut to length with a tenon saw or gents saw.

3. Glue and tape down the 2 long sides. Use masking tape and PVA adhesive.

4. Measure out the 2 short sides and repeat.
