J : Higher concentration of oxygen in the alveolus diffuses into the blood capillary. Oxygen then combines with haemoglobin in the red blood cell to form oxyhaemoglobin. Simultaneously, carbon dioxide diffuses from the blood capillary into the alveolus to be exhaled out.

K : At the body cells, oxyhaemoglobin breaks down and releases oxygen into body cells. Exchange of gases happens again here where carbon dioxide diffuses into the blood capillary to be sent to the lungs.

PPPM

- Large surface area- Moist surface- One-cell thick wall- Semi-permeable
