Established in 1860, Charles Bentley & Son Ltd, is a 6th generation family company. From humble beginnings the company has grown to become a global enterprise, supplying thousands of different Homeware & Garden products to many of the top retailers around the world.

William Bentley takes over the business of a local brush maker.
1860An equal partnership is set up amongst the Bentley family.
1971Purchased new 202,000 ft² warehouse to help improve product variety and stock levels.
2016The decision is made to bring in new products to sell through online channels.
2005Received the award for “most outstanding exporter” of the year.
2010
William retires & sells the business to his younger brother Charles for £250

Charles Bentley takes over the business as Managing Director
1990
Half a million is spent in investing state-of-the-art brushware manufacturing increasing production rates by 1/3.
2015
A Multi million pound office investment is made due to rapid expansion. Offices are made in China & America.

With a manufacturing network cover over 150 suppliers, we can export directly to your distribution centre a diverse product mix.

Sedex is home to one of the world’s largest collaborative platform for buyers, suppliers and auditors to store, share and report on information quickly and easily. The platform is used by more than 38,000 members in over 150 countries to manage performance around labour rights, health & safety, the environment and business ethics. Sedex is not a standard setting body and doesn’t approve or certify our policies and standards. Instead, being a member of Sedex is a sign of Charles Bentley’s willingness to share information and to use this information to help manage and improve ethical standard within the supply chain.
FSC (Forest Stewardship Council)FSC runs a global forest certification system with two key components: Forest Management and Chain of Custody certification. This system allows consumers to identify, purchase and use wood, paper and other forest products produced from well-managed forests and/or recycled materials.
BSI (British Standard Association)Accreditation means that we have been assessed against internationally recognized standards and operate to the highest levels of quality and service - providing further assurance to you that the certificates we issue are both credible and impartial. Our social and environmental policy is committed to the local community as we understand that local issues have a global impact. Therefore we work closely with local and global environmental and organisations to promote good ethical and environmental practice.
• We are committed to the reduction of greenhouse gasses and have changed our power to a green power supplier. We are actively reducing our energy consumption in house.
• We are committed to the minimisation of packaging and work with clients and suppliers to achieve this.
• We are committed to improving waste management systems within the company and recycle 100% of cardboard and supply this direct to paper mills in the UK. All plastic wherever possible is recycled by our injection moulders.
• We are committed to working with the local community and actively work with the country and borough councils as well as environmental groups who are working with a LA 21 policy. We chair the working group for waste reduction and recycling with Charnwood Borough Council.
• We are committed and part of the local Environmental Business Network and Business forum so we can pass on good environmental practices to smaller local companies.
• We are committed to being a good environmental neighbour and have long term ambitions of becoming a ZERO waste business.
• We are committed to working with international and global standards relating to the purchase of timber. These include with both the FSC (forest stewardship council) which is backed by the WWF which has full backing of the United Nations Forestry forum and the International Accreditation Forum to establish good ethical and environmental forest management.
• We are committed to reducing our emission from our fleet of vehicles. We only use low sulphur fuels. All the fleet are maintained to a high standard. Wherever possible we ensure that imported containers are sent by rail to minimise emissions.
