Silverwaves Jewelry focuses on unique sterling silver and regional stone jewelry inspired by Lake Superior, waves and water.

Lissa Flemming opened Silverwaves, an art gallery & working studio in spring 2016. On display you will find her work, alongside that of other artists who are inspired by Lake Superior.

Using materials from the natural world surrounding her, Lissa creates jewelry that reflects the spirit of the places and people she has met on her journeys across the globe. Whether it’s kayaking in the Baja, attending a stone setting workshop in the Porcupine Mountains, or dog sledding in the Northwoods of Wisconsin, Lissa is constantly learning new techniques and soaking in new experiences. Using native stones like Lake Superior basalt and agates set in sterling silver, each piece is a personal reflection of a moment in time. Lissa’s spirit is a part of each item, and she believes every piece finds its rightful owner.

To further her commitment to responsible artistry, Lissa uses silver wire and sheet from 100% reclaimed silver. None are from mined sources.

SATURDAY 10AM–5PM

Many artistic mediums and artists are on display at Stone’s Throw.Owner/operator Andrea Falconer specializes in ceramics.

At the turn of the century, this building was a glorified service station. Cars were gassed up, fixed and even sold.

Now Stone’s Throw is a beautiful space with a loft, a courtyard in back and many, many wonderful pieces of art and craft—most of which is made locally.

ANDREA SAYS:“When I was tired of potting alone in my back yard, I decided to open a gallery in Bayfield.”

“Stone’s Throw is a happy experience, lots of fresh air wafting thru the open doors and occasionally a bird will zoom through! There is good music to shop to—though once a customer politely asked me to turn down the Santana music I appeared to be blasting, ooopsie!”

GALLERY TOUR STOP 6:HITCHING POST WOODCARVING84420 STATE HWY 13, BAYFIELD

Owned & operated by George & Kathy KleinEST. 1973

SATURDAY 9AM–5PM

Displays include original folk art, wood carvings and quilting by George and Kathy Klein. There are so many carvings displayed in the shop it is like a museum. Carvings that are folk art in nature and compliment a woodsy or cabin decor.

When first opened, this residential gallery was a taxidermy studio, the only one in the area at that time.

About 25 years ago, George started carving wood and decreasing the amount of taxidermy he took on. Gradually, carving took over as a priority. After Kathy retired from teaching 13 years ago, she began quilting and the shop has become an outlet for her to display and sell some of her work too.

Because of George’s background, he uses many of the painting schemes he used for taxidermy, especially on the carved fish. His carvings range from chickadees to carousel horses.

George also creates custom orders. Oftentimes George can be seen working during open hours and visitors are welcome to watch through a window in the showroom.

GALLERY TOUR STOP 7:WASHBURN CULTURAL CENTER1 E. BAYFIELD ST., WASHBURN

Owned & operated by the non-profitWashburn Cultural Center, Inc. EST. 1993

SATURDAY 10AM–3PM

Work on display includes visual, fiber, 3D, antiques and collectibles from an array of local artists

Located in “the finest restored 1890 building in Washburn,” the Washburn Cultural Center offers a unique and enriching experience including a retail shop, a monthly art exhibit and a local history museum.

The galleries have evolved over time, starting with Skip Ungrodt’s vision of a public display place. He envisioned more than just art – car shows, toys and antiques for example. However, artists who came to us were always welcomed.

They feature artists in the Main Gallery and Grand Hall on a rotating monthly basis. This is a separate show from the Ungrodt retail shop. We don’t chose the artists – they come to us!

The retail consignment shop started as an empty room in 2008, with hopes of a fiber arts consignment gallery. It soon became evident that our biggest percentage of inventory was to be antiques and collectibles, with fibers and visual arts coming in steadily but in less volume.
