Beet Language Centre

Beet Language Centre is located around twenty minutes away from the town centre

in Bournemouth. The school consists of two buildings and a carpark which is used by

students and employees in breaks for smoking.

Lessons are very interesting and you learn a lot of grammar, vocabulary and

pronunciation of sentences, although the school days are quite short.

The teachers are very lovely and they can help you in every way. If you are going to

have school with Justin, you should enjoy the lessons because he can explain a

grammar topic in a way, everyone understands it.

There is a canteen in the main building where you can enjoy lunch or buy a soft drink

and snacks for break. You must try the brownies! Heavenly!

There is one thing about the school that’s not so good ! The computers aren’t up to

date and they are very old. A bit confusing was using the English keyboard-layout.

So, I recommend you, to bring your own laptop with you.

You can use the free WLAN as well, although you have to learn the password by

heart because you have to reconnect every time.

In and about Bournemouth

Bournemouth is a huge town, so there are many

activities to do. For example, going to the town

centre.

Down there you can find many different kinds of

shops. You can buy food, clothes, souvenirs and

so forth.

In case you just want to go and spend time with

your friends, there are a few Starbucks and

many restaurants. After school, one of our main

activities was, to go to Starbucks, drink a coffee

and spend time with our friends talking about

our life.

We were spending quite a lot of our time in the town centre. We were especially looking for

shoes, clothes and some souvenirs, which we found easily.

About Bournemouth

Bournemouth offers lots of options for things to do. There is for example a beach, some

cinemas, golfing places, the Bournemouth garden and the Oceanarium.

One of my favourite places is the Bournemouth beach. It is quite nice to spend time there.

You have a wonderful view and can just come down. There is a pier, where you are able to

relax, eat and drink something. On the left side from the pier, there is another place where

you could play golf.

Food in the UK

The UK is known for having some of the worst

food in the world. We couldn’t agree more. The

food here is mostly rather tasteless and the

kind of food they’re serving even looks

unappetising. Of course, there are some things

that are tasty and nice to look at, but you must

search for it.

If you find something delicious by accident, then the chances are high that the food is not

English. Most of the time it’s American, Arabic, Korean, Indian or from other Countries

around the globe. We’ve been to many different restaurants and our experiences have been

rather pleasant, not because we liked the English food, but because we only went to foreign

restaurants. The food was good looking, and it tasted delicious. We never even entered

English restaurants because the pictures outside of the restaurants scared us off.

If you want to have an amazing meal in

Bournemouth, we would suggest going to the

Bournemouth square (even though it’s round

haha) and either walk to the Odeon, where you

have a vast variety of restaurants to go to, or you

just walk to one of the fast food restaurants. For

example, the Pizza Hut (where you should order

the stuffed crust, or you’ll regret it), KFC, Dominos

or McDonald’s. We especially recommend going to Pizza Hut and KFC because we don’t have

these in Switzerland and they were really really tasty.

In conclusion, if you don’t want to starve in England you should eat in foreign restaurants,

because the English food isn’t appealing neither to eat or to look at.

Thanks Sven, Simon! The food in my house is awesome!!!!!!!!!! ( &

ENGLISH) and I will make sure I recommend good English places

to the next group! Kirsty (teacher) and if you read on, some people

liked the food

The new Cinema in Bournemouth

The Odeon is the newest cinema you will find in Bournemouth. It opened in July 2017 and is obviously totally modern. As seen on the picture to the right, there's enough space to buy food, drinks and tickets of course.

After you have bought your tickets and snacks, you have to go upstairs on an escalator. You get your tickets and bags checked, in case you try to smuggle something in. Then you reach the corridor where you can enter all the rooms. If you're early and your room isn't cleaned or empty yet, you can go to the bar to the left of the escalator and get a drink or talk a bit.

Tips: You can get a medium sized popcorn plus a drink for £8. But the better deal is,

to get a large popcorn with a large drink for £8.5. While you are studying at

BEET you can buy the “Students-Ticket” to

save a little bit of money, but you will need

to have your Students-ID with you. Talking

from experience, I suggest buying tickets

for the “Recliner-Seats” and not the

standard ones. The Recliner seats are the

first 3 Rows in front of the screen in most

of the rooms. They are like sofas and much

more comfortable to sit on. You can even lie down in those seats which is

perfect for watching a good film. If you can you should try to avoid the first row

in front of the screen. It is too close and a little bit unpleasant for your neck.

Trip to London

On Saturday the 21th of October we went to London with our whole class. When we arrived

at Tate Britain with our coach, we had a guiding tour from the Tate Britain to the Piccadilly

Circus. First, we visited some very historical buildings and places like the Palace of

Westminster or Big Ben. Near Big Ben there was a park with many different statues of

famous people like Ghandi or Nelson Mandela. Afterwards we crossed Westminster bridge,

where we had a great view on the London Eye and Big Ben. Then we took a path through the

metro station and walked to the National Gallery. On the way we saw some English guards

and the building of the Prime minister Theresa May. We moved across the big square in

front of the gallery with the huge black statues and arrived at the small place with the

Switzerland and canton emblems. Finally, we came to the Piccadilly Circus where everyone

split up into groups.

London is a very attractive city and well worth seeing. Tower Bridge is a must see with his

impressive bridges between the two towers. You have to walk along the south side of the

river Thames because of the amazing promenade and the sights where you can have a

perfect view of it.

At the end of our Trip we were a bit hungry, the nice thing was we have seen many good

restaurants on out walk to the Tower Bridge. There is a wonderful area around the Tower

bridge to take pictures or eat something. There was a Nandos, a Wagamama and a Jamie’s

Italian restaurant. It was quite hard to decide in which one we should go. At last we decided

to go to the Jamie’s Italian. We thought there we would get the best food. So, two of us

went back to the meeting point and we’ve gone in to the restaurant. First, we had to wait for

five minutes, but it’s quite professional that you get a table without reservation a table for

six people in the afternoon.

Probably you could order there what you want, and you will get a delicious meal provided

you like the kind of food. We ordered four burgers, one Sicilian chicken and a salad. The

burgers were delicious, one of us said he never had a such a good burger before. The

Chicken is also really something for gourmets. Also, the salad was nice but probably not

worth the money. If you plan to go there you really must order one of the specialties and

while you are ordering you shouldn’t think too much about the money, you will leave the

restaurant anyway like a poor man. XD

But it’s totally worth the money.

London Trip

On a Saturday we finally went on the long-awaited trip to London. When we arrived, I was a

little disappointed by the weather, because the sun was shining. I thought to myself: I want

my money back. after a while, however, my craving for the stereotypical weather was

satisfied and it began to rain.

Our tourguide Harry led us on to some beautiful sightseeing of the city and told us the

history behind them. On such a trip photos must of course be taken and I took a whole lot of

pictures and selfies with my group. How else could you make the people at home jealous?

One thing that surprised me was that London didn’t look as

expected. I had rather imagined it with more older buildings, but it

was spiked with modern skyscrapers and a few statues of very

famous people throughout the history like Nelson Mandela,

Mahatma Gandhi and so on and so forth. There was also a

memorial to the women who died in second world war.

Such a trip would be useless, if you didn't visit the most famous

sights like the Tower Bridge from which you have an extraordinary

view over the city and the river Thames, even if it looks like a large tropical puddle or the

great Big Ben, which is currently being renovated. Not to mention the London Eye and the

Buckingham Palace. It would be deeply depressing if you missed just one of them out.

London is an incredibly huge City and a must for every tourist in the UK.

Bournemouth sleeping sickness

Two weeks ago me and my classmates arrived here in Bournemouth. Compared to our live in Switzerland we have about two to three hours more sleep every night. Even though we can sleep more all of us are even more tired.

I looked it up on the internet and there are two reasons why people get a kind of sleeping sickness in Bournemouth. First of all it's because of the sea. The fresh and salty air reliefs stress and makes people more relaxed. Second it's because of the Pine trees growing in Bournemouth. Pine trees produce an oil which relief stress and relax the muscles. Combined these two make us feel much more tired and therefore makes us sleep even more. Janlucas

Visit to London

On Saturday we visited London. It's my first time to be in London and I was very interested

in London. In the morning we took the coach and drove there. After 3 hours in the coach we

arrived there. First we went to the toilet and than the city tour

started. We went on foot into the city and visited many interesting places. We looked at Big Ben, many churches and other interesting

places. The city tour was very interesting because a teacher from Bournemouth told us a lot about the interesting places. After the

town tour we had 5 hours free time to visit London on our own. We went to eat something. When we were full than we left to travel to Tower Bridge. The Tower Bridge was very far

away so we most walked for one hour to saw the Tower Bridge.

At 6 a'clock we travelled home by coach to Bournemouth.London is a very interesting

town and I will visit London another time in the future.
