Ancient Civilizations Ancient civilization refers to cultures, countries, empires, governments, rulers and people that flourished centuries before today. This week, we will dis-cover the ancient civilizations of Egypt, Greece, Rome and China!

The Mysteries of Ancient Egypt Ancient Egypt was one of the first civilized cultures in the world, and it thrived for more than 2,000 years. journey into Ancient Egypt with many diverse lessons on culture, history, geography, legends, and art. Ancient Rome Nearly 3,000 years ago a small community of shepherds relocated to northern and central Italy. They formed a tiny settlement that grew into a colossal empire. Join HLN as we discover Ancient Rome!

The Ancient Greek World Do you ever wonder where and when democracy, science, philosophy, architecture and astrology began? In this unit, we will explore an ancient civilization that flourished centuries before us! Ancient China The Chinese civilization is the world's oldest with a vast history documented as far back as 3,500 years. In this unit, we will learn about ancient Chinese dynasties and ancient Chinese religion, writing, food, folklore, geography and government.

THE PROCESS:

1. Review each of the 4 thematic units, and decide which topics your child would enjoy learning about. Use the text in the units and library books on the topic to introduce and enhance your child’s knowledge.

2. Choose 2-4 lessons for each day according to your child’s grade that you would like to cover from the Lesson Plan Matrix for this week (page 2).

3. Print out this week’s Unit Study Planner (pages 3 and 4).

4. Write down the lessons you chose for each day in your Unit Study Planner. Make sure to vary the lessons according to the subjects you would like to cover.

5. Gather the materials you need for the lessons you chose.

6. Add Language Arts, Science, and Math Worksheets from our Weekly Worksheets section to your weekly plan.

7. Archive your Work Plans and weekly work. Note that every week, every subject may not be covered. However, weekly themes are designed to cover all subjects over the span of a semester of learning.

8. Enjoy your learning experience!
