Booth Orthodontics has been inpractice in Homer Glen for over 26years. Dr. Barry E. Booth, a foundingmember of the chamber, opened his
business here after completing hisorthodontic specialist residency at Universityof Illinois, “Choosing thislocation was the easy part” saysDr. Booth. “Homer Glen hadgood demographics, excellentschools and favorablepopulation growth projections– things that are important tosmall business owners.” Overthe years, Booth Orthodonticsbuilt a trusting relationshipwith his clients and with areadentists to create qualitytreatment results and excellentpatient services.
In 2010, Dr. Booth decided togive back to the community that had alreadygiven him so much. He established the Smilefor a Lifetime Foundation for SouthwestChicagoland. Smile for a Lifetime’s mission isto create self-confidence, inspire hope andchange the lives of the children they treat.
The foundation’s board of directors currentlyselects one new family per month in the HomerTownship area, offering no cost orthodontictreatment for the deserving family.
Dr. Booth is planning to continue his practicein Homer Glen for “many years to come.” His
oldest son is currently finishing dental schooland will be joining the business soon.
Homer Township Vision Center opened June1, 1988 on 143rd and Golden Oak Drive.Jeanine Reding, president, chose the location
because it seemed to be thecommercial hub of HomerTownship at the time.Throughout the years, herbusiness continued to grow, asdid the need for extra space. In1997 Reding moved next doorfrom her original location todouble the space for the business.
Homer Township Vision Centeris a charter chamber member.Reding served as chamberpresident in 1992 and 2002 andmaking her the only person tohave served two terms as
president. She has consistently remainedactive in the chamber, serving as a boardmember as well as participating in many ofthe chamber’s committees.
Still at its 1997 location, the Homer TownshipVision Center is known for quality care andprofessional service, has two Optometrists,two Certified Opticians, an on-site lab and adistributor of the first electronic eyewearcalled emPower!
“Our business has grown and prosperedbecause of our involvement with the chamberand the great people of small business; I lovethis chamber.” says Reding.
Wheel-Go Camping has spent the past 34years in business, 25 of those years with theHomer Township Chamber of Commerce.Owned by Bob and Connie Schmidt, ahusband and wife team, the company firstopened its doors in April of 1978 after Bobdecided to stop operating his thrivinginsurance agency. “I was looking forsomething more stimulating,” he says. “I was

40 and frustrated. Fortunately, we ownedsome land in town and were able to use it tomake a career change. About that time, I meta man who introduced me to the RV businessand decided to try my hand in the RV andtruck accessory markets.”
In the beginning years Wheel-Go Campingsold pop-ups and slide-in truck campers aswell as pick-up truck caps and covers. After10 years in business, Bob and other businessleaders decided Homer Glen needed achamber of commerce. Bob was vital instarting and growing what isnow the Homer TownshipChamber of Commerce,serving as president for oneterm and still remainsextremely active today.
After sales and inventoryexpanded so did the company,undergoing two additions tothe current facility. Today, thefocus has turned to sales andinstallation of RV parts, aconsignment program, sales oftruck accessories and open and
enclosed utility trailers for commercial andrecreational use.
Dr. Wayne Helge & Associates originallyopened an office in Homer Glen as a secondlocation for the growing practice. Choosingthe location was easy because existingpatients were moving to the south andsouthwest suburbs. According to Dr. Helgethe area seemed like a great place with a lot ofpotential for growth, had a pleasantappearance and a rural feeling, but still closeto the city.
“Our decision has turned out to be thecorrect one.” Today, the Homer Glen office, achamber member since 1988, is still standingand has been the only location since 1997. Dr.Helge remains at this location because of theloyal people and the chamber of commerce,who have been their patients and continue to be.
Dr. Helge says, “Many of these people havebecome not only patients, but have becomemy friends.” He hopes to keep providingdental care for his current and future friendsfor the years to come in the same office.
Sher’s Dog Grooming started as a storefrontshop in Homer Glen. Sherrie Griswold, owner,remembers that rent was high in Lake Zurichand she loved Homer Glen. The decision tostart in Homer Glen was an easy one andturned out to be the right choice. No otherdog or cat grooming shops were open in thearea, which let Griswold’s business grow.
As Sher’s Dog Grooming began to grow asdid other businesses in the area as well as
residents. Griswold and otherlocal business owners startedwhat is now the HomerTownship Chamber ofCommerce.
Today, Griswold is keeping inthe business of dog groomingin the comfort of her ownhouse and has been since 2007.She notes that nothing haschanged, besides her locationand does not groom catsanymore. “I love Homer

Township,” she says and it doesn’t seem likeshe is going anywhere for a while.
Dahl Landscaping and Garden Centerbought their property in 1987 as a place tostore all of the landscape equipment. Theplace began to bloom as people started tobecome more interested. Soon thelandscaping business grew into a gardencenter. “As the area developed more peoplecame in” and as each year passed the gardencenter kept expanding, eventually into a five-acre garden which, according to Dahl, can bevery deceiving from the road.
After expanding the center year after year,Dahl decided it needed a new name to reflectwhat the garden center had become. Comingup with a name was difficult so he enlistedthe help of his mother, Ida. “Garden Paradise”was the name she chose, Dahl liked it, butthought it could use a little something, hedecided on “Ida’s Garden Paradise” as a gift tohis mother.
Today, Ida’s Garden Paradise is still growinginto more opportunities. The garden center isnow home to a boutique section, a gift shopand a home and garden stop for residents toget the most out of their shopping. “It’s awonderful area with nice people,” says Dahl’ssister, who helps to run the business; so itseems Ida’s Garden Paradise is blossoming atany season.
Eagle Rock Community Church was born in1988 as Community Life Church with PastorHenry Reyenga leading members. In 1996 thecurrent Eagle Rock Church began to worshipat the Orland Junior High School, whilewaiting for a place that they could call theirown. Pastor Reyenga was heavily involved inacquiring land for the church.
On January 18, 2009, after 12 years ofworship at the junior high school, churchmembers finally gathered for the first time attheir new church in Homer Glen. That day,members of the church celebrated “what theLord had provided” and they continue to doso today. Pastor Reyenga was a foundingmember of the chamber of commerce, its firstpresident and is proud to have been part of itsgrowth.
With gratitude for what members have beengiven, Eagle Rock Community Church’s hopeis “to be a local expression of Jesus’ churchthat is creative, missional and involved in thecommunity.” Keeping with that theme for 25years the church still holds true to their valuesand acceptance of every person because thathas kept them strong for so long. “We valueeach person, and the unique gift that God hasgiven them. We share in the heart of God forthe hurting, poor and lonely.”
Family Wellness Center originally choseHomer Glen for their office because it was anup and coming area, it also reminded Dr.Judy Morey of her childhood hometown. Thefirst office was located on Bell Road, but as itbegan to grow a larger space was needed. Dr.Morey built the current site in 1994 and itofficially opened in January of 1995, where ithas remained ever since. The Family WellnessCenter continues to stay in Homer Glen“because it is a great place to be,” says Dr.Morey.
