What is Homelessness?

HUD Definition:

•People who are living in a place not meant for human habitation, in emergency shelter, in transitional housing, or are exiting an institution where they temporarily resided.

•People who are losing their primary nighttime residence, which may include a motel, hotel or a doubled up situation, within 14 days and lack resources or support networks to remain in housing.

• 25% were employed in 2011 (48% in 2008)

• 20% are veterans (National Avg 10%)

East Orange Homeless Resource Center Update

• Samaritan Resource Center is delivering services at the NCF one day per week

• Renovation planning is underway

• Operational plans are being finalized

• Partnerships, development and fundraising are emerging

• VA has applied for a grant to extend services to the site

The Central Florida Commission on Homelessness

• Initially created as a 4 jurisdictions partnership June of 2007

• Permanent Commission formed February of 2008

• Working budget of $900,000 for the next three years

• Orange County has pledged to support $200,000 over the next three years

• Recently re-organized with new structure - 2012
