Basketball Homecoming 2013KHS celebrated Homecoming this year before the first game of the year

against Garfield County foe Garber on November 22. Queen candidates were Karlee Bittle, Elizabeth Elliott, Mari Ryan Voth, and Hannah Wuerflein. King candidates were Connor McCollough, Lee Olmstead, and Trev Schoenhals. The kindergarten escorts were Torie Rhodes and Chase Pirtle. KHS swept the double-header basketball games. Great start for the season!

FCA Game Day activities Winter 2014KHS FCA will be participating in several Game Day activities at Oklahoma

State University. On Monday, Dec. 30, we will travel to Stillwater to watch OSU men play Robert Morris University. Cost will be $5 per person which includes the FCA rally, pizza, and the game. OSU coach Travis Ford will be the guest speaker! This is open to students in grades 7-12. We will leave KHS at 3:15 pm and return about 11 pm. Students interested in going need to pay the money to Mr. Gossen by Friday, December 20.

Then on Sunday, Jan. 26, we will go watch OSU women in a Big XII game with Baylor University. Cost for this trip will be $5 per person which includes the FCA rally, pizza, and the game.

Finally, on March 2nd, we will go watch one of the best wrestling teams in the nation (OSU, of course) take on American University. Cost is again only $5 per person and includes the rally, pizza, and the matches. More information on these last two will come later.

Band RoyaltyThe Pride of KHS crowned its Band Royalty before the annual Christmas

Program on Tuesday, Dec. 17. Queen candidates were Karlee Bittle, Ryan Voth, and Hannah Wuerflein. King candidates were Connor McCollough, Brenden Stokes, and Chantz Tucker. Ryan and Chantz were named Queen and King! Congratulations!

Trivia Challenge 201425th Anniversary Edition

This will be the 25th year that KHS has put on the Trivia Challenge!. Teams from all over northwest Oklahoma (and some participants from Tulsa, Weatherford, and southern Kansas) have been trekking to KHS sometime in the spring of the year to compete for the title “Champions of Trivia”. This year’s edition will be held appropriately enough on Tuesday, April 1 st. Entry fee is $60 per team of four members (only $15 per person). All funds raised go to support KHS academic bowl teams.

One Homecoming activity was the poster contest. The poster grand prize winner was Demi Suitor. Fourth-sixth grade winner was Mary Keithly; first - third grade winners were Dylan Moser and Couper Frisendahl;, Pre-K/Kg winners were Cash Parrish and Tuscany Maner.

National Honor Society Blood Drive by Karlee Bittle

A letter was received from NW Oklahoma Blood institute about our Blood Drive on Dec. 2. In part it said, “It is vital to have strong community partners, such as Kremlin-Hillsdale High School and community that see the value in dedicating time to organizing blood drives and encouraging donations. This is no ordinary community partnership. Among the 18 caring people who stepped up to help, 17 were able to donate. This means there are neighbors, coworkers and family members across Oklahoma who are alive due to blood provided through your support. On behalf of patients across our state counting on support like this we are truly grateful. Your partnership means so much.” Several KHS students who donated were first time donors but many were donating for the second time or more. NHS will host another blood drive in the spring.

5th/6th Academic team KHS elementary academic team

travelled to Medford on Dec. 4 for Oklahoma Junior Academic Bowl Association (OJABA) district tournament. They faced off with Medford first and at the end of regulation, the score was tied. Medford won the tie-breaking question to win 300-290.

KHS defeated Canton in the second game 330-110. Leading the scoring for the Broncs was captain Bradie Gray with 240 points. Others on the team and points scored were Magwire Lunday (20), Sophie Fosmire (10), Rachel Reimer (20), Katy Brashears, and Cooper Coffey. Roger Gossen is team coach.

The team will travel to Canton on January 11 for the Regional tournament. Other teams there will be Medford, Canton, Canute, Fargo, Leedey, and Reydon. The top three teams from Regionals advance to State at OU on March 29.

Three more OJABA teams to compete in January

KHS will also field teams in three more divisions of OJABA this year. All three teams play district competition in January.

The 6th/7th team (captain Natalie Haggard, Bobbie Gray, Hannah Rundle, Brett Russell, Bradie Gray, Sophie Fosmire, and Magwire Lunday) will compete at Medford on Jan. 14 at 1:00 pm. The 8th grade team (captain Josh Reimer, Alice Keithly, Ian Franklin, Cody Bower, Mahayla Mitchell, and Dakota Gabriel) will compete at Lamont on Jan 15 at 9:30 am. The 8th/9th team (captain Briley Craig, Zeb Hawkins, Corbin Lunday, Emily Felber, Paul Courtney, and Josh Reimer) compete at Cherokee on Jan. 20 at 3:25 pm.

High school academic team places third in KHS Invitational Tournament

KHS fielded a freshman team and a varsity team in the 24-team KHS Invitational on November 9. KHS White team (freshmen) lost to Pioneer and OBA and beat DCLA. Zeb Hawkins scored 170 points, Josh Reimer (8th

grader) scored 100 points and Briley Craig scored 20 points. Others on the team were Corbin Lunday, Emily Lunday, and Paul Courtney.

KHS Red (varsity) swept through its pool undefeated beating Vici, Temple, and Plainview JV. In the quarterfinals, KHS defeated OBA, lost to Drummond I in the semi-finals, and then beat Drummond II for third place. Drummond I defeated Caney Valley in the championship game.

KHS hosts Regional tournamentKHS hosted ten other teams in the Class A Region 2

tournament for OSSAA on November 16. KHS beat DCLA 150 – 90, lost a tight match to Timberlake 140-160, knocked Cimarron out of the tournament 200-130, and then led Cherokee til the very end and lost 180-190 to finish fourth and advance to the Area tournament on January 18 at KHS.

Captain Jacob Pekrul scored 180 points, Hayden Bonine 170 points, Jordan Presley 80 points. Others on the team are Connor Snapp, Megan Courtney, and Trev Schoenhals.

KHS will attend the NOC-Tonkawa Invitational on January 9 before Area on Jan. 18 and the Cherokee Strip Conference Tournament January 24-25 at NWOSU-Enid campus. The Broncs have a record of 10-4.

NWOSU will have a rep at Kremlin on January 6th to talk to seniors before lunch. FAFSA financial aid workshop will be here on January 20th, 2014, at 6 P.M. for juniors and seniors as well as their parents. Chad Cargill workshop is on January 30, 2014. If you’ve wondered why there’s a cooker in the entry way of the gymnasium, here’s your answer: The Kremlin-Hillsdale Academic Enrichment Foundation is raffling it off for our winter fundraiser. The cooker is a really nice, solid one built and donated by Kremlin Welding and Fabrication. Tickets are 1 for $5 or 5 for $20. The funds generated are used for our Grants for Teachers program awarded each year to our incredible faculty. The drawing will be following the KHS basketball season. You can purchase tickets at any home game or contact Ms. Kristi at the school (or any of the Foundation members). You can also see it by going to the KHAEF Facebook page. WHG members Harley and Hunter Perdue, Jordan Bailey, Emma and Heather Aebi, J.D., Emily and Olivia Felber, Chloe Beth and David Campbell, along with Cindy Felber, Joyce Fales and Gini Z, all served as guest ushers for the Enid Symphony during their performances of “Around the World with Disney” and “Christmas Music with Tom Wopat”.

The Gang held its Christmas meeting on Dec. 3 with each member receiving a small gift and enjoyed fellowship and food. The Gang voted to make a donation to “Food 4 Kids.”

On Dec. 6, the Gang served at the annual Integris Christmas Dinner and Volunteer Banquet. They enjoyed a pizza dinner prior to the banquet and received a donation from Integris.

On Dec. 8, the Gang served treats to customers at the annual Dillard’s VIP Night. Moms will serve as gift wrappes and all will receive Dillard’s Gift cards for their help.

The next meeting for the WildHorse Gang will be Tuesday, January 7, 2014. They always have a great time at their activities.

The junior class is having a great year, and is eager for Christmas break. They are enjoying the basketball season with many players filling out the boys and girls teams. They have done a wonderful job representing the school and class in all their games so far. There are many people in the class that cheer on the Broncs in both cheerleading and pep club. It’s going to be a great year for the juniors.

The sophomore class has been busy, all of us have recently taken the PSAT and ACT Plan tests. With football ending, the new basketball season starting, it has shown that the sophomores are doing great for both boys and girls. And also, many classmates are in pep club supporting the teams.

beginning. Football sadly ended while basketball was just starting. Basketball homecoming this year was all about the Wizard of Oz. We enjoyed each day, ending the week with a spirit day. This has been a great quarter. We are going to enjoy our break.

This winter season, the 8th graders have definitely busy with sports and preparations for the Christmas program. Sports are very important to the 8th graders. The boys and girls are both doing well in their basketball seasons. Mahayla Mitchell, who plays the post position on the girls team says, "My favorite part of basketball is playing the game." The 8th graders appreciate all support they receive from Kremlin-Hillsdale fans and encourage them to come out on Mondays and Thursdays to cheer them on at their game.

The Christmas program on December 17th at 6:30 will feature performances from the elementary, junior high, and high school students at Kremlin-Hillsdale. The 8th graders will play 2 or 3 songs as part of the junior high band and they have worked very hard to make it a fantastic performance.

The 8th graders are very excited to see what other opportunities await them in their last year of junior high.

Hello students and parents! Here at Kremlin we have almost finished another great nine weeks, and I think we are all ready for Christmas break! We are doing great in sports! Our junior high girls’ basketball team has had a great season! And I hear the boys are working hard. It is almost time for our big tests and lots of studying! But after all of it, the kids who haven’t gotten detention or remediation get a great surprise. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and happy new year!

In November the elementary had their nine week assembly and we had 37 students on the Principal’s Honor Roll and 31 students on the Superintendent’s Honor Roll. We also had 21 gold metals, 19 silver medals, 12 bronze medals with the Reading Olympics that were handed out. We also had our Rise and Shine at the first of the month. The Fourth grade did a showcase and Mrs. Carson was teacher of the month and we added 7 new names to the Kindness Wall.

Our elementary basketball has started as well. Our Kindergarten through Third grade teachers have been meeting with parents to address those students who are below benchmark. We had our Rise and Shine on Monday October 8, 2013 and we recognized our Star Students. The students that made the Kindness Wall of Fame and the teachers of the month were Mrs. Riddle for August and Mrs. Buller for September. Also, our enrollment for Pre-Kindergarten through Fifth grade is at 150 students.

The 27 students in the kindergarten class have been working hard on reading and addition. They have also been learning nursery rhymes. They have read and studied animal homes the past few weeks.

I think that most of the 6th graders have finally figured out the schedule of switching classes. At first it was a struggle to get from class to class with a bell and lockers. I think most of us have it down. As we get further into the year, it gets better and easier. We are also getting more organized.

Academic team members include Bradie Gray, Sophie Fosmire, and Magwire Lunday. They won one and lost one to finish second in the district tournament at Medford. They work harder and are getting closer to finishing first.

In basketball, the girls have won 6 and lost 2 games, coming in second in the tournament at Hillsdale. the boys on the other hand came out to a rough start. But we’re getting better and won four straight after losing our first six games.

All of the sixth graders cannot wait until Christmas break. We are all so excited. We’re all really nervous about our first semester tests. These will be another first for us and another enw experience for us.

Mrs. Debbie Dobbs – new cafeteria worker by Eugene Brooks

It is our privilege to welcome our new KHS staff member Mrs. Debbie Dobbs. Mrs. Dobbs came from working in daycare. She was born in Greenville, South Carolina, and she will be our new cafeteria worker. Mrs. Dobbs says “she loves working with food and kids.” She has 4 kids and 3 grandchildren and she is married. Mrs. Dobbs plans on staying here awhile. Her favorite part of Kremlin Hillsdale is the people and the community. Her favorite food is Chocolate Amrady Frozen Yogurt. Mrs. Dobbs likes reading and gardening for her hobbies. We enjoy having Mrs. Debbie Dobbs as a part of the Kremlin Hillsdale staff.

FFA Booster Club newsby Mary Elliot

The last event that was held by the booster club was the chili and soup cook-off and pie auction. We had several delicious soups and types of chili that were taste tested. The winner of the chili cook-off was Jamie Myers and the best soup was made by Kendra Sellers. Thank you to everyone who helped make our annual soup and chili cook-off a huge success!

H.S. principal Jeremy Brashears announces this year’s teacher of the month award winners were Coach Turney in August, Mrs. Edington in September, Mrs. Pirtle in October, Mrs. Chesser in November, and Mr. Gossen for December. The student of the month award winners were Hannah Wuerflein in September, Chantz Tucker in October, Shay Regier in November, and Tyler Jones in December.

Bronc Pride Day will be held on Friday, December 20, 2013, for all “students in good standing.” This involves over 80 KHS students in grades 6-12.

4-H Club newsby Emily Felber

The 4-H Club sponsored angels for this Christmas. They sponsored a boy and a girl. On December 4 they rang bells at Jumbo’s Food. The junior 4-H Christmas party was Tuesday December 10. The senior 4-H Christmas party will be on the 19 of December. Coming up soon is the 4-H mall day at Oakwood Mall. 4-H members will show off their project work. Currently they are having a baby food drive. They are raising money at every home basketball game. Mrs. Schroeder would like to thank everyone for their support and asks that you continue to support them.

If you are interested in joining 4-H you can get your forms from the OSU Extension Office. You can do shooting sports with 4-H and you can show animals. With 4-H you can help make your community a better place and help others in your community.

Kremlin Home Culture Club newsThe HCE met Nov. 12 at the home of Jennie Meyer.

She presented a lesson on a “Green Holiday” Ideas for an environmentally friendly holiday season were exchanged.

The club discussed providing cookies for the Cherokee Strip Museum Open House, the club’s Christmas party, the nursing home couple the club has adopted and community activities for the upcoming year.

Those attending were Stefanie Franklin, Virginia Craig, Beverly Buller, Betty Sissom, Sharon riddle, Joyce Fales, Bronwyn Streck, Linda Sader and Avis Forbes.

The Kremlin-Hillsdale band will be selling band bucks this year in order to fundraise for their future trip to Disney World. If you would like to help support them, you can use band bucks at Jumbo Foods.

You can also support the Kremlin-Hillsdale band by coming to see them at this year’s Christmas program on the seventeenth of December.

The cafeteria is serving flavored milk (strawberry and vanilla ) once a week.

The KHS FFA has been very active this time of year. Many members are going to be attending the two leadership conferences for members: MFE (Made for Excellence) and ALD (Advanced Leadership Development) very soon. The chili cook off was a huge success, thank you to all who helped us out! The winners at the cook off were Kendra Sellers for soup and Jamie Myers for chili. The 2nd semester will be a blast and we are looking forward to upcoming events like FFA week and spring meat sales!

For the first time the high school band held two Veteran’s Day programs, one on November 10 and one on November 11. They both had a big turn-out for the band and they helped raise money for the high school band trip this year. The high school band would like to thank everyone for coming to the dine-out nights. The band has almost completed their money goal for their trip. The money is also due before Christmas break.

The band has a big year coming up as they have concert band coming soon in January. They have 4 concert bands between January and spring break. They will also start working on their small and large ensembles. We would also like to ask for everyone to keep buying band bucks and help us earn money for our trip.

The Christmas program was a big success. Thanks to all who came out and enjoyed the program.

The elementary is participating in the Kremlin Hillsdale reading Olympics. The following students received medals for the first 9 weeks. 2nd grade medals: Jordan Bailey, Damien Rainey and Aowyn Seek received the gold medal and Sarah Brashears, Brea Maner and Alina Wolfe received the silver medal. The 3rd grade medals: Maddie Gray, Jaleigh Jacobs, Dylan Moser, Ty Neal, Logan Seek, Emma Truman, Bradyn Winningham all received the gold medal. Couper Frisendahl, Rachelle Gragg, Karys Lam, Izzy Long, Faith Mack, Noah Maddox, Maddox Myers, Zach Snodgrass all received the silver medal.

Stuco has been very busy lately. We had four people go to State Convention and they were Katie Davis, Haley Carson, DJ Toelle, and James Olmstead. We collected items for the Horn of Plenty the week before Thanksgiving Break. Stuco has also hosted a basketball homecoming dance. On January 4th will be Winter Formal. Tickets were on sale till December 14th! We are planning on a Jr. High dance and the date will be announced soon.

Methodist Church included the Hanging of the Greens Service on Dec. 1 followed by a tasting party, the UMW Christmas party on Dec. 4 at Barbara Blevins (all attending brought a gift for the YWCA Crisis Center), the Children’s Christmas Program on Dec. 15 and the Christmas Eve Service that will be held on Dec. 24 at 5:30 pm.

started and all of the teams at Kremlin have been working hard. The team is being coach by Tana Turney. Ms. Turney has been working at Kremlin for three years and has been coaching here at Kremlin for all three years. Many people have said that since she has been here the high school basketball team has come a long way. Ms. Turney has said, “The team this year has been working hard and we have been practicing hard.” So far the girls are 5-2. The girls won the Consolation bracket in the Pond-Creek tournament last week.

All of the players on the team are Madison Roberts, Mikayla Horning, Karlee Bittle, Rebecca Wasson, Shay Regier, Elizabeth Elliot, Hannah Wuerfein, Carlee Salisbury, Billie Jo Gabriel, Jordan Harris, Katie Davis, Kalli Rundle, Cheyenne Roche, Ryan Voth, Mary Mitchell. That is the whole Lady Broncs basketball team. Go Lady Broncs!

As most of you know the basketball season has started for Kremlin Hillsdale school. For the high school boys’ basketball team it has been a good start so far as they are 4-3 right now in their season. Just like the girls they competed in the Pond-Creek tournament. Brad Hawkins is their coach this season. Mr. Hawkins has been at Kremlin for two years and he has coached for both of them. He said, “We have been working really hard. And we hope to have a really good season.” He also wanted everyone to know that homecoming week they beat Garber and it has been a long time since they have beaten them. So that was a good win for them. Elementary boys’ basketball newsby Lainie Long

Basketball season has started for the students at Kremlin Hillsdale School. All of the coaches at KHS have said that so far they are so proud of all their players and the effort they have put into the season so far. For the elementary boys’ basketball team they have had a good season so far. “We had a bit of a rough start at the beginning of the season, but the team has come a long way from when we started the season,” says elementary boys’ basketball coach, Tyler Severin. Coach Severin has just started working at Kremlin this year and all of the students really like him. So far the team is at a record of 4-7 in their season. Even though they have lost 7 games they are now on a 4 game winning streak. They hope that as the season goes on that they will play better and improve their skills for junior high and high school.

Coach Tana Turney keeps busy coaching all three girls’ basketball teams but she has done a great job balancing the duties and keeping this team very competitive. They finished second in the Hillsdale Christian tournament.
