October 2016 Dear Alumni and Friends, DBU invites you to Homecoming 2016: We are DBU - A Family Tradition! The weekend of November 18-19 will be a wonderful time of celebration on our campus. This year, we will be honoring the classes of 1976, 1986, 1996, and 2006. The weekend will kick off on Friday at 5:00 p.m., with the President’s Reception as Dr. and Mrs. Adam C. Wright welcome all DBU alumni to join them in Jim and Sally Nation Hall. The reception will be followed by the Alumni Homecoming Banquet, with special seating for the classes of 1976 and 1986. During the banquet, the 2016 Distinguished Alumnus Award will be presented to Mr. Seth Roberts (‘02). Seth is a partner at the international law firm of Locke Lord, where he has practiced for over ten years. During his legal career, Seth has been privileged to work with some of Dallas’ finest lawyers, including former White House Counsel Harriet Miers and Federal Judge Ed Kinkeade. Seth earned his law degree from SMU, where he studied under Professor Paul Rogers—a long-time friend of DBU and baseball supporter. While a student at DBU, Seth, who was a political science major, worked as an assistant for former DBU President Dr. Gary Cook, as well as sharing a suite with DBU President Dr. Adam Wright. Currently, Seth and his wife, Amy, and their three boys, Graham, Henry, and Owen, live in Lakewood and attend every DBU Baseball game they can. Seth also serves at DBU as a member of the Board of Trustees. At the dinner, we will also be recognizing Coach Dan Heefner with the 2016 Honorary Alumnus Award. Coach Heefner enters his 13th season with the DBU Baseball Team and 10th year as the Patriots’ Head Coach. Over the course of his tenure as Head Coach, he has led the Patriots to six NCAA postseason tournaments, including five trips over the past six years. His overall record is 346 wins and 187 loses, and his .649 win percentage ranks 20th best among all active NCAA Division I coaches. His focus on player development continues to produce big-league talent as DBU players are consistently awarded All-American honors and drafted by Major League Baseball teams. A graduate of Olivet Nazarene University and the University of Northern Iowa, Coach and his wife, Liz, currently live in Cedar Hill, Texas, along with their five sons: Luke, David, Zachariah, Titus, and Jacob. The Heefners attend Matthew Road Baptist Church in Grand Prairie, Texas. Following the banquet, DBU will present the Homecoming Extravaganza in the Pilgrim Chapel. Students, alumni, faculty, and staff will showcase their incredible talents during this special evening performance. Homecoming Registration will take place on Saturday from 2:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. in the Mahler Student Center. Tours of the campus will be available at this time, and we hope you will take the opportunity to enjoy a guided tour of the DBU campus to see the Lord’s provision of our newest additions and renovations. Be sure to also stop by the third floor of the Learning Center to see our special Alumni Art Showcase. Beginning at 4:30 p.m., the campus will get ready for the annual Homecoming Game with the Patriot Tailgate Party, located on the lawn at the east side of the Dean Learning Center. Come and join the DBU Family for food, games, and music as we lead up to tip off. In addition, the class of 2006 will celebrate their “10th at the Tent” and the class of 1996 will celebrate their “20th at the Tent” during the party. The Patriots will take the court at 7:00 p.m. as they face off against the University of Central Oklahoma Bronchos.
