We are very glad to announce that the Japan DIY Industry Association will hold the JAPAN DIY HOMECENTER SHOW 2014 at Makuhari Messe for period of three days from August 28
(Thursday) to 30 (Saturday), 2014. Established in 1978, the JAPAN DIY HOMECENTER SHOW, a comprehensive exhibition showcasing all lines of home-related products, is organized by the cooperation of three different sectors of manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers (do-it-yourself stores), in order to extensively promote the DIY industry and help people enjoy a more improved quality of life through the popularization of DIY home improvement. Nowadays, it is well known as one of the biggest comprehensive exhibitions in Japan showcasing all l ines of home-related products and providing the place for business matching and exchange among industry participants and marketing activities toward consumers, and proudly counted 50th edition including both Tokyo show and Osaka show. The Show last year, 2013, featured 412 exhibitors from Japan and overseas presenting in 925 booths and hosted 86,000 visitors (2000 more than 2012). The Japan DIY Industry Association deeply appreciates the participation and cooperation of the many participant companies, organizations and individuals.
Since this is the show’s 50th anniversary edition, we are making our best effort to meet our goal of having 600 exhibitors present and 150,000 visitors to the show. To mark our 50th year, the association has formed a Special Promotion Committee from 9 member retailers to work towards strengthening the show. The theme of this year’s show is set as “Inspire your everyday life! Unlimited fun for your daily life with home improvement centers!” It represents the aim of the show that introducing various hints and tips to lead an enjoyable and pleasant lifestyle, and encourage visitors to discover the fascination of the homecenter. We are presenting the show venue to appear as a large homecenter complete with actual selling floor space allocation that exhibitors and visitors may have more opportunities to interact. Homecenters have expanded throughout Japan to the point that they are indispensable for consumers in every region nowadays. There are showing signs of an upturn in the economy, but retailers in the homecenter industry are still facing an uphill battle against market saturation caused by an increased number of homecenter stores. However, on the other hand, the interest by women in recent years in DIY, hand-made goods, and general craftsmanship is on the rise, and the promotion of homecenters through TV and magazines as a home ground of hand-made is leading to increasing interest in DIY and homecenters, with this trend forecasted to continue into the foreseeable future. To further embolden the development of homecenters, it is essential that we ascertain the demands and lifestyles of consumers in a timely and precise manner, and provide services and communicate information that responds to those demands. In this year’s show, we are working on various ways to improve sales outlets for our exhibitors, such as “Japan DIY Product Competition”, which exhibit and promote the exhibitors’ new products, popular products and eco-friendly products all at once, and select the best products through expert judges and visitor polls to award the METI Minister’s Prize, and others, “Exhibitor Presentation” for exhibitors to promote their products directly to visitors, “HOMECENTER TRADE II” where the exhibitors meet theretail members of our Association (the homecenters) for direct business discussion, “Free Interpretation” service for overseas visitors, planning an area where visitors may actually test and purchase exhibited products, in order to directly approach to individual buyers and consumers. Additionally, a theme zone, which received acclaim last year, entitled “Sparkling DIY Women” will be presented to assist women with DIY lifestyles, and continue to recruit exhibitors while expanding to other fields. Moreover, to celebrate our 50th anniversary and show our appreciation, we are offering a special plan for exhibitors. To reach our goal of 150,000 visitors, we are planning not only providing invitation tickets to the exhibitors for distribution and engaging in advanced public relations campaigns to attract more visitors, but also planning a variety of project, such as family-friendly events designed for children on their summer break from school, and collaborations with the media and DIY industry. I hope I have been able to clearly outline the main events for this year’s show. I look forward to seeing all of the exhibits of our industry professionals at the JAPAN DIY HOMECENTER SHOW 2014.
