Welcome to the March edition of the Whistle-BlowerGames are starting to come in think and fast and this month both the Men's andWomen's competitions get underway. Many of the team have been involvedand will be further involved, so please update you availability on Who's TheRef. In this edition we give you some information about the GROW coaching modelwe will be implementing this year, meet one of teammates Braydin Southall, have information on our season launch, all the details you need for theupcoming season, an invitation to the inaugural Waikato vs Bay of Plentyreferee cricket game and updates of some notable appointments. A big congratulations to Clayton Hamilton who made is debut in an adult rugbygame during the Big Mike 10's.

Braydin Southall How many years have you refereed? Coming into my 3rd season What is your occupation and where did you study? I attend Western Heights High school in Rotorua and I’m a year 11 What are some of your refereeing highlights? I’ve definitely had few referee highlights and some very memories games.Starting with the U13 final , AIMS games men’s 3rd v 4th , Chiefs U16stournament , condors women’s plate final then asked to ref at the worldsecondary schools sevens , also at the start of the season refereeing my firstwomen’s premiere game between Whaka and Rangiuru. Have you travelled anywhere with Rugby? No other countries but if the offer was there I definitely would , mainly reffingaround the north island , I’ve have been to Auckland a few times to ref forcondors and worlds ,also have refereed in most place around the Bay. What is the best piece of refereeing advice you have received (refereeingor life)? Approach every game the same no matter the level and work as a team of 3.

What is the best part of being a referee? Definitely meeting everyone from all over New Zealand , staying in the gamekeeping fit and the quick calls and that there is always room to improve. Would you rather Eat a small can of cat food or eat two rotten tomatoes? Definitely two rotten tomatoes Have hands instead of feet or feet instead of hands? Hands instead of feet Imagine playing games with 4 sets of hands Have a pig nose or a monkey face? Monkey face so I don’t get stuff stuck in my nose Suffer from spontaneous shouting or unpredictable fainting spells? Unpredictable fainting spells Travel 100 years into the future or 100 years into the past? 100 years in the future then I could finally drive

On Sunday 17 February 2019 a group of 10 of our coaches attended a NewZealand Rugby Referee Talent Identification and Coaching workshop. The coaches were introduced to the new GROW coaching framework that wewill be following this year. The aim is to use the framework to ensure consistent,concise and effective coaching is given to all members of our team that is

On Sunday 10 March at 10am at Kaipaki Oval, Ohaupo, just south of Hamiltonthe Waikato Rugby Referees Association has challenged our team to a game ofT20 cricket. If you want to head along and play email Pat to get on the bus going over andeveryone including family is welcome to spectate.
