Directions• Read the information on each page first, next…• Click on the helpers at the bottom right of the screen on each page• Some helpers have multiple clicks. Click until text/images stop• Click on other shapes on the page when presented to you• Keep the goal in mind as you take this tour• Lastly, look for these terms throughout the tour Ellipse- a closed conic section shaped like a flattened circle and formed by an inclined plane that does not cut the base of the cone Oblate- flattened at the poles, as a spheroid generated by the revolution of an ellipse about its shorter axis Spheroid- a solid geometrical figure similar in shape to a sphere, as an ellipsoid Hyperbola- a conic section formed by a plane that cuts both bases of a cone Point- a part of a line that is bounded by two distinct end points, and contains every point on the line between its end points• Follow the tabs and enjoy your trip!

Shape of the Earth

Shape of Earth’s

Magnetic Field

Welcome home! Our planet has a spherical shape, when including the atmospheres. If you take those away you actually get an oblate spheroid.

Invisible to the eye are magnetic fields that originate at the Earth’s poles. These fields help with navigation along with many other aspects of life. Note the ellipses and overlapping spheres on the link.

Also, Here is a magnet activity.I’m sure you’ll be “attracted” to it.
