WHAT’S NEW Keep up to date and get to know more about people at Cedar Lodge!

Cedar Lodge | P3

As Margaret was born in August and is one of our newest residents, we thought you’d like to get to know Margaret a little more… Margaret moved to Cedar Lodge in January and quickly became a very sociable member of the care home. She thoroughly enjoys all the activities as well as the dining experience at mealtimes. Margaret loves doing arts and crafts, mostly enjoying the fl ower fashion artwork she and other residents have been making using the brightly coloured fl owers in the Cedar Lodge gardens. Having lived in Frimley Green for most of her life, Cedar Lodge was the natural choice for the care home she chose. Margaret was a keen member of the community and participated in many local events. For many years Margaret was an active member of the Grove Ladies Club in Frimley, which has now unfortunately disbanded. Her brother shares the article below of her participating in a Frimley Green Carnival featured in the News of the World national newspaper dated July 1989. Margaret will be celebrating her 90th Birthday at Cedar Lodge on August 24th, a very special milestone.

RESIDENT PROFILE

MARGARET WILSON

Thousands Watch ParadeCarnival fever hit Frimley Green on Sunday a ernoon as a procession of colourful oats made their way through the village in warm summer sunshine. ousands of shirt sleeved onlookers gathered along Frimley Green Road to send o the oats – a motley mixture of colour and noise. ere were the toddlers of Frimley Green Playgroup, the French Revo-lution theme of the Brownies and the noisy enthusiasm of Cross Farm First School dressed as London street urchins. Others that caught the eye included the Priory Players with their live theatre and Frimley Church of England Middle School’s “Pillage In e Village” tableau of Vikings and Anglo-Saxons. e theme for this year’s Carnival was history, and some oats took the

opportunity to celebrate events like the 150th birthday of the camera or the centenary of Charlie Chaplin’s birthday. Starting from Lakeside, the procession made its slow way up to the Johnson’s wax roundabout and then back to e Green. ere the public could sample traditional fare such as candy oss, ice creams and burgers, or have a utter on the tom-bola or in the ra e. For the more adventurous there was the opportu-nity to have a go on the mini-train. Mrs. Pamela Sturgess of Frimley Green Carnival Committee said: “It was an extremely good day. Altogether there were 28 entries in the procession and we collected £750 – that’s considerably up on last year.”She said that besides the three nominated

charities, the committee would also fund a bumper Christmas party for the Frimley Green children. Proceeds from the street collec-tions and stalls will be divided among three local charities this year, the bene ciaries being Frimhurst recuperative home, talking newspapers for the blind and the RSPCA. Organised by the Frimley Green Social Committee, over £70,000 has been raised for charity over the past 10 years.

WORDS FROM MARK The Director of Forest Care would like to share a few words...

OUTDOOR FUNWe have felt very grateful for the beautiful weather we’ve been enjoying over the last 3 months. Residents have spent lots of time socialising outside; eating alfresco, participating in activities or even just to admire the birds and fl owers.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!We’d like to say a big Happy 90th Birthday to Mr Brown! We were very impressed with the birthday cake!

I hope you are all enjoying the beautiful Summer weather we have been experiencing over the past couple of months, despite the restrictions we are continuing to live with. While the Government continues to ease the lockdown restrictions, it is very important for us all to remember that the threat of COVID-19 has not gone away. We are continuing to follow all necessary precautions with regard to PPE, temperature monitoring, hand-sanitising and social-distancing in line with continued guidance. That will remain the case in each of our care homes until we are sure it is fully safe to do otherwise. While we are making every effort to make visiting residents possible , we have to ensure this is done safely. That means strict protocols need to be in place for the safety of our residents and staff and we appreciate your understanding and support in adhering to these. It remains the case that non-essential visitors are not permitted into care homes. Each home has slightly different arrangements for their garden visits, so please liaise with team directly but all such visits need to remain on the following basis:• Strictly by appointment only• Limited to one family member per visit for one hour• Limited to offi ce hours, Monday to Friday• Subject to social distancing being maintainedWe all hope that things will improve to the extent that the restriction can be lifted altogether at some point in the not too distant future, but in the event they are not, we are looking at further options for visiting safely beyond the summer months. Finally, I would once again like to thank our courageous staff who have been exceptional throughout this challenging period. May we all continue to keep safe and well as we acclimatise to our new “normal” way of life. All the best, Mark Vickery

What’s been happening...

HOME SCHOOLINGFrom making rainbows to Joe Wicks PE classes... Parents have needed to get creative with their home schooling over the last few months.

For national Carers Week, homemade “Carers Survival Kits” were given to each carer to say thank you for their hard work. Later in the week, the activities room was transformed into a multi-sensory oasis. Sila, our fi tness and well-being ambassador, offered back, neck, head and hand massages to staff and residents. With a variety of refreshments, aromatherapy and tranquil music, residents and staff could either enjoy a treatment or just enjoy the relaxing atmosphere for a bit of well-deserved R&R.

ANCHORS AWEIGH Some of us have been getting creative with delivery boxes!

NATURE WALKS With amenities closed for a number of weeks, many of us have been enjoying long walks around our local areas.

This is a beautiful landscape captured outside of Whitchurch. A sea of yellow fl owers for all passers-by to enjoy.

THANK YOU ARABELLAArabella, Mrs Glide’s

Granddaughter, kindly painting a Flamingo for everyone at

Cedar Lodge. It travels around the home for all to enjoy.
