Registering themotion sensorThis procedure is not required fordevices that were included as part ofa bundle.

Before you can use the motion sensor,it must be registered to the hub.If you purchased devices separately(i.e., not as part of a bundle), you mustregister each device to the hub.

You can register each device by usingthe registration buttons or the [HomeNetwork] app.

2 Motion sensor:Press and hold M N until theLED indicator blinks in green(page 7).R When registration is complete,

the hub sounds one long beep.Note:R To cancel without registering the

sensor, press M N on the hub andon the sensor again.

R If registration fails, the hub soundsseveral short beeps.

Using the appWhen you register the motion sensorby using the [Home Network] app, youcan assign a name to your devices andgroup them by location. For moreinformation, refer to the User’s Guide(page 15).

Information aboutsensor featuresThe motion sensor utilises an infraredsensor (i.e., heat sensor). Please read the following informationbefore deciding where to install themotion sensor.Note:R The motion sensor’s sensor features

are not designed to be used insituations that require high reliability. We do not recommend use of the

motion sensor’s sensor features inthese situations.

R Panasonic takes no responsibility forany injury or damage caused by theuse of the motion sensor.

Using heat to detect motionThe motion sensor’s infrared sensorcan detect motion by recognizingtemperature differences that occurwithin the range of the sensor. It doesthis by detecting the infrared rays thatare emitted naturally by people, animals, etc., which correlate to theobject’s temperature. The detectionrange is indicated in the illustration bythe grey area in front of the motionsensor.

2 Distance of detectable motion:approx. 5 m

Note:R Detection becomes difficult when

there is little difference between thetemperatures of objects and thesurrounding environment, such asduring summer. Conversely, detection becomes easier whenthere is a large difference betweenthe temperatures of objects and thesurrounding environment, such asduring winter or at night.

R Detection does not occur when thereare obstacles in front of the infraredsensor. Remove the obstacles orchange the installation location.

Direction of motionIt is easier to detect objects that movesideways in front of the motion sensor, and more difficult to detect objects that

move directly toward the front of themotion sensor.

Confirming theusage areaWireless communicationrangeThe wireless communication range ofeach device in the system from the hubis approximately 50 m indoors andapproximately 300 m outdoors.Wireless communication may beunreliable when the following obstaclesare located between the hub and otherdevices.R Metal doors or screensR Walls containing aluminium-sheet

insulationR Walls made of concrete or

corrugated ironR Double-pane glass windowsR Multiple wallsR When using each device on

separate floors or in differentbuildings

Note:R You can check the motion sensor’s

communication status by pressingM N. If the LED indicator is lit ingreen or red, the sensor iscommunicating properly with thehub. If the LED indicator blinks inred, it is out of range of the hub.

Usage area cautionsUsing the motion sensor in thefollowing areas may causedeformation, malfunction, oroperational failure.R In direct sunlightR Areas exposed to grease or steam,

such as kitchens

R Near fire or heating devicesR Near magnetic fields (such as near

microwaves and magnets)R Areas subject to extreme

temperature changes, such as nextto air conditioners

R Areas with reflective objects, suchas glass, that can interfere withdetection of temperature variation

R Areas where the temperature isaffected by strong illuminatingobjects (such as fluorescent lights)

R Near devices that emit strong radiowaves, such as mobile phones

Adjusting the sensorsensitivityYou can use the MHIGHN/MLOWN switch(page 7) to adjust the sensor’ssensitivity. If the sensor often makesincorrect detections, such as in areaswith frequent and substantialtemperature fluctuations, set the switchto the MLOWN position.Note:R When the switch is in the MLOWN

position, the sensor detection rangeis reduced by about half (comparedto when the switch is in the MHIGHNposition).

Features availablewhen using the[Home Network] appSome of the motion sensor’s featuresthat are available when using the[Home Network] app are listed below. For more information, refer to theUser’s Guide (page 15).– Alarm system

You can use the app to arm anddisarm the alarm system, confirmthe current status of the sensor, andview a log of previous events.

– Sensor integrationYou can configure the motion sensorto trigger other system events, suchas camera recording, turning on anelectric device (such as a lamp), etc.(Appropriate device required.)
