Home » Media Center Library Terms and Definitions Adventures are fiction stories where one or more people set out on a quest. The path they take is seldom smooth and each chapter of the story may act as mini‐adventure in their own in their own right. Look for the label on the spine of a book. Public Library Do a “detailed subject search” on “adventure”. Select “juvenile” for reading level. Autobiography ‐‐ The story of a person's life written by that person. It is non‐fiction. BR E MOR Beginner Read ‐‐ Very easy read fiction, picture books for budding readers. All books are arranged by the first three letters of the author’s last name in this special collection off of the Easy Read section of the library. Books that they can read independently such as Minerva Louise series, Biscuit series and more. Barcode ‐‐This is a symbol made of short black lines on a label, with a number below. Barcodes are used to identify library materials. The library computer can read this code and get the information. The Murphy barcode will say “CEM Elementary School” at the top. The barcode is scanned into the computer to check‐in or checkout a book. Biographies are a special nonfiction books that are the written history of a person’s life. Biographies have a Dewey number of 92 and the first three letters of the subject’s last name. Green call numbers are easy read. Public Library Check under some public libraries use a “B” instead of “92”. You can do a subject search on the person you want to read about. EX) Lincoln, Abe. 92 LIN
