1. Read Ch. 21 in Housing Decisions as well as the Article and complete the “Maintaining your Home” worksheet. You may work in small groups of 2 or 3 DUE TODAY!
2. Work within the same groups to complete the “Interior Home Maintenance Calendar”. DUE TODAY!

Divide class into 4 groups – each person should have a job!
Each group is a separate Season (Summer, Fall, Winter, Spring) Each group will create a poster using the
construction paper in the cabinet that explains how to care for the roof, gutters, downspouts, exterior walls, windows, doors, driveways, decks, and porches based on the season
The poster should include tools and techniques used in caring for the exterior of the home
You may use the textbook and/or the internet to obtain research for your poster

OBJECTIVE 9.03IDENTIFY COMMON HOME MAINTENANCE TECHNIQUES AND COMMON TOOLS TO USE AROUND THE HOUSE
Cleaning Techniques
Carpet: to help it last longer it should be vacuumed weekly (at least!)
Rugs: Small rugs = shake it by hand Area rugs = vacuum
Upholstery: Vacuum and check folds (on fabric areas only)
Kitchen: Clean and organize drawers and shelves monthly
Repairs
Walls: Holes: Use a spackling
compound Faded Wallpaper: Needs to be
removed Plumbing:
Clogged Drains: Use a chemical drain cleaner as directed
Leaky Compression Faucet: Replace worn washers
Warranties
A written statement of the manufacturer’s promise to replace defective parts of a product at no charge for a certain time.
Limited: covers only SOME cost or repairs
Full: covers ALL cost or repairs Extended: Extra charge to increase the
expiration date of your warranty
Maintenance
Air Filters: helps to increase the efficiency of air conditioners (change every 1-3 months)
Weather Stripping: put around windows and doors to exclude moisture and air (inspect/repair once a year before winter)
