I am including the responses to some of the topic points that I included in last week’s newsletter edition below as a point of reference: The temperature in the activity area is set at 72 degrees. Over time, we’ve found that adjusting it slightly up or down seems to make the room feel either too cold or too warm for most people, depending on the individuals utilizing the space at any given time. Please remember that we are always willing to adjust the setting temporarily for the group who is occupying the space during activities. The same is the case for the library. The fireplace can be lit at any time. It certainly provides a comforting at- mosphere and heaven knows we are heading into the season(s) where it’s glow and warmth is a welcome sight! Simply ask any of the staff to turn it on and we are sure to oblige. However, if it causes individuals to become uncomfortably warm during the dinner hour, we are also happy to turn it off so that mealtime can be a pleasant experience. When scheduling entertainment, whether it be musicians, singers, or guest speakers, they are given the option of presenting/performing prior to or after dinner. We aim to make it convenient for them so that we can successfully book their talent. GPS Life-Alert System – I would like some feedback from everyone who utilizes the GPS button in terms of the overall efficacy. I would like to schedule a group meeting with you and will be contacting you next week to set up a time and date. CURIO CABINET NEWS: The Curio Cabinet Committee is planning fall and holiday themes and is interested in hearing from residents who may have ideas or items that they would like to share for future displays. Please contact Sylvia B. or Minnie B. with any thoughts or suggestions that you may have. My condolences go out to Janet for the loss of her mother. My thoughts are with her family at this most difficult time. ~ Kevin

Hello, Everyone……………………………………………………

We have attached the minutes from the Resident Council meeting that occurred on Oc-

tober 3rd. I am including the responses to some of the topic points that I included in

last week’s newsletter edition below as a point of reference:

The temperature in the activity area is set at 72 degrees. Over time, we’ve

found that adjusting it slightly up or down seems to make the room feel

either too cold or too warm for most people, depending on the individuals

utilizing the space at any given time. Please remember that we are always

willing to adjust the setting temporarily for the group who is occupying

the space during activities. The same is the case for the library.

The fireplace can be lit at any time. It certainly provides a comforting at-

mosphere and heaven knows we are heading into the season(s) where it’s

glow and warmth is a welcome sight! Simply ask any of the staff to turn it

on and we are sure to oblige. However, if it causes individuals to become

uncomfortably warm during the dinner hour, we are also happy to turn it

off so that mealtime can be a pleasant experience.

When scheduling entertainment, whether it be musicians, singers, or guest

speakers, they are given the option of presenting/performing prior to or

after dinner. We aim to make it convenient for them so that we can

successfully book their talent.

GPS Life-Alert System – I would like some feedback from everyone who

utilizes the GPS button in terms of the overall efficacy. I would like to

schedule a group meeting with you and will be contacting you next week

to set up a time and date.

CURIO CABINET NEWS: The Curio Cabinet Committee is planning fall and holiday

themes and is interested in hearing from residents who may have ideas or items that

they would like to share for future displays. Please contact Sylvia B. or Minnie B.

with any thoughts or suggestions that you may have.

My condolences go out to Janet for the loss of her mother. My thoughts are with her

family at this most difficult time.

Our Lake Forest Residents’ News, Comments, Etc...

LAKE FOREST SENIOR LIVING COMMUNITY

RESIDENT'S COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES

WEDNESDAY, 3 OCTOBER 2018

Ron T., acting as Interim Moderator, opened the meeting at 4:00 PM by distributing an agenda prepared by

the Resident Council leader, Sally SM. He then announced that Sally told him at today’s lunch that recent

health problems required her to withdraw from this position. Ron told the meeting attendees that he thanked

Sally for stepping up to help lead the Resident Council, and he wished her well in her recovery. The

Resident Council is now in need of volunteers to help be in charge of residents’ concerns and issues for the

meetings, preparing agendas from such, getting out timely notifications through the calendar, newsletter,

and bulletin boards, and moderating the meetings when necessary.

16 residents were in attendance. Without objection, Sally's summary of the last meeting (September 5) was

approved.

Lisa G. reported the Council has $4,333.39 in account, including a recent deposit from bottle returns that

Dave P. gathers and turns in on our behalf. Thank you Dave!

The last meeting ended with a discussion about getting congressional candidates Stefanik and Cobb to hold

a debate at Lake Forest. Today, it was concluded that such a debate did not appear feasible. The discussion

then turned to holding future debates or Meet-the-Candidate Nights that involve elections to local city and

county positions. The discussion was put on hold until the next election cycle.

The topic of Christmas Giving was discussed. Lisa G. gave a history of the giving and distribution of gifts.

Unlike previous years, there was no request to revisit the gift distribution formula. The Council will next

meet on November 7 to further discuss this year's Christmas Gift process, and to welcome observers to

monitor this process.

Discussion then centered around four new topics:

Complaint that the fireplace is too hot to operate at this time during the dinner hour, and that the

Activity Room is too cold for comfortable use. A recommendation was made that the RA Room

Door be kept closed to help stabilize room temperatures.

Recently, entertainment has been scheduled between 9 and 5. This schedule avoids the after-dinner

evening hours during which many entertainment groups were previously scheduled for resident

enjoyment. There was a consensus that those evening periods should again be made available.

Regarding the securing of outside entertainment, it was suggested that a survey be sent to residents

asking what genre of music they prefer and what other entertainment (including movies) they would

welcome.

There was discussion that the hardware for the current Emergency Alert System has become out-of-date

compared to current technology. It was mentioned that there may be some bleed-over among

neighboring systems which interfere with the monitoring process. It was suggested that other

competitive systems be examined for future contract.

In the 4th wing laundry room there now exists a hanging rod to help residents. Lake Forest was

complemented for adding this feature. Other attendees asked: “Where is ours?”

Next Meeting, November 7, 2018.

Respectfully Submitted by Ronald Teel

The spooky time of year is near, so I thought I would share a poem I wrote for

my granddaughters years ago as their Nana. Now, I have a lot of years on me,

but I don’t think I have enough to be the Nana to any residents, so I will write

the poem to you as myself.

The Seven Days of Halloween

On the first day of Halloween , I send to you one vexed vampire wined in a vine.

On the second day of Halloween, I send to you two gliding ghosts.

On the third day of Halloween, I send to you three dancing Zumba zombies.

On the fourth day of Halloween, I send to you four wickedly winking witches.

On the fifth day of Halloween, I send to you many moaning monsters.

On the sixth day of Halloween, I send to you six wildly wailing werewolves.

On the seventh day of Halloween, I send to you seven bawling bats in a belfry.

and Mary Lue says BOO!!!
