Lacy Scott & Knight now offer an online bidding service via our website where a (3% plus VAT surcharge applies) Clients can set up an account on our website which allows you to leave bids until half an hour before the auction starts, and then you can bid live. Selling Rate Our auctioneers sell at approximately 120 lots per hour, buyers are advised to make sure they are in the saleroom at least 20 minutes before a lot is expected to be offered in case the auctioneer is ahead of schedule. December 2019 Highlights
It’s been quite the momentous year, not least for it being our 150th Anniversary, and we’ve been privileged to
have had some wonderful and interesting art and antiques pass through our doors in the last 12 months.
We ended the year with a triple auction weekend comprising Medals, Militaria and Country Pursuits followed by Wine, Port & Spirits on the Friday, and Fine Art & Antiques on Saturday. 582 Murray Arbeid - A ladies pale pink duchesse satin strapless full length evening gown, embroidered with black chenille, with matching stole edged with a fringe of black chenille, sold with supporting correspondence between Arbeid and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, NYC Note; Murray Arbeid (1935-2011) was a British fashion designer known for his evening wear whose notable clients included Princess Diana and Shirley Bassey. He once joked that if there was a Nobel prize for creations in taffeta, he would have won it. He was partner to Frederick Fox, and co-designed their house in Suffolk. This dress was designed for Mrs John Traina (Danielle Steele) and closely resembles a dress made for Elizabeth Drexel, Lady Decies, which now resides at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. The original gown was produced by Charles Frederick Worth (1826-1895), an Englishman who established the first couture house in Paris in 1858.

As well as being a renowned clockmaker whoexhibited at the 1851 Great Exhibition, Pace was aleading light in Bury St Edmunds - not least for beingremembered as the first shopkeeper in the town toinstall gas lighting.
