moveable feastthe floAt collection for miras editions was born from the idea of creating hybrid pieces of furniture that could
comfortably fit into a kitchen or living room. consisting of five detachable pieces – a kitchen island, cupboard, glass cabinet,
serving cart and room divider, this design from Alberto sanchez of mut eliminates clutter. sanchez attempts to
make the experience more pleasurable with the mobile island that can be integrated into an open space, freeing you from
having to stare at a boring wall while cooking. stripped downthe tAbu series by eugeni Quitllet for Alias is the epitome of minimalism. Quitllet shows remarkable restraint when designing the unusually shaped
range of chairs and the occasional table. each product from the range is made from timber sourced from sustainable and responsibly managed forests, and is available in ash,
natural or dark stained oak and walnut finishes. for more, visit www.aliasdesign.it or www.eugeniquitllet.com
not another hole in the wallluxembourg’s steelyard
square sits amidst high-rise buildings and blast furnaces at the centre of belval ouest, a city development project. the site, a former steel mill, can be quite an uninspiring space for most, but not for Alleswirdgut. the Austrian architecture firm transforms the disused industrial site by creating island seating
areas that bring in a sense of warmth to an otherwise brutal
landscape. by puncturing a hole in the concrete wall,
Alleswirdgut fashions out a tunnel of seating lined with
solid oak wood.

board-ed upswedish designers folkform have
given 80-year-old hardboard samples a new lease on life. Anna holmquist
and chandra Ahlsell designed the cabinets for swedish interiors brand svenskt tenn from pieces
of masonite produced in 1929. called masonite memoriam, the duo combined the original samples with
a few of the final sheets to come off the production line at sweden's last masonite manufacturer, a factory in
rundvik, which closed in April 2011. for more, visit www.folkform.se
X marks the spot Architects Kuba Kowalczyk and
mateusz wełmiński of 5mm.studio combine minimalism with geometric precision in the
X table. translating their passion for modern architecture into their creations, the duo’s products are defined by the simplicity of form.
the X-shape of the thin steel base is constructed perfectly to support the solid block of oak wood that forms the tabletop. for more, visit www.5mm.pl
taking flighteven though it is one of the
largest in the world, beijing's capital Airport is already
exceeding its capacity. thus, the only natural course of action was to build another terminal. Airport
specialist firm AdP ingeniérie won the bid and teamed up with Zaha hadid Architects to develop the proposal for ‘the world's largest airport
passenger terminal’ in daxing. it will accommodate 45 million
passengers per year and have a flexible layout allowing

Tucked in Inga Sempé's Ruché collection for
French design brand Ligne Roset is as inviting as a warm blanket on a
cold winter’s day. The name Ruché refers to a sewing technique in which fabric is gathered or pleated to create a duvet-like cover. Sempé drapes the quilting over the armrests making it the
perfect lounging space. For more, visit www.ingasempe.fr

Colour perfectionDesigned by LaSelva for Missana, Cosmo is a multifunctional piece of furniture that scraps the traditional bulky design of a sofa. With a customisable option, it can be adapted to not only the space, but also to its user. Vibrantly coloured upholstery, that can be easily replaced, rests on a pine and beech frame. A wooden tray replaces one of the armrests, creating a convenient place to rest those drinks during movie night.
Sweet as sinIt comes as no surprise that Nendo was named Maison et Objet’s 2015 Designer of the year, for which they
were asked to put on a ‘little show’ in Paris from January 23 - 27. And in true Nendo style, founder Oki Sato didn’t disappoint. Instead of presenting a conventional display of his works, the designer
decided to create the chocolatexture lounge, where selected pieces of his designs for Cappellini, Desalto, Glas Italia, Emeco, Offecct, and Moroso were
custom-coloured to resemble the sweet treat.
stick figuressleek but cuddly are the words used to describe médard, a table lamp by bleijh for modular. these words seem odd considering designer basten leijh’s inspiration for the fixtures – stick insects. leijh balances a rounded cylinder bulb holder on a sleek frame of organic feet giving the médard a soft shape, yet maintaining its lean structure. for more, visitwww.bleijh.com

the rag rug may sound like something out of the urban dictionary, but is actually an art form with close to a 150-year-
old history. for generations, swedish women have spent hours weaving intricate rugs made from worn-out clothes,
curtains, sheets, upholstery and any worn-out fabric. founder of rumbler, lars hofsjö reimagined this childhood material
to create a modern piece of furniture titled torp and dunker. hofsjö searched the markets for the perfect rag rugs that
were then wrapped around aluminium frames. torp and dunker pieces are part of a limited edition collection.
Let there be lightYour eyes are not deceiving you. The Multi Bulb Heavy Table Lamp is the master of disguise.
Crafted by Edison Light Globes, this table lamp may look like a relic, but uses the latest in LED lighting. Combining a Victorian and retro-futuristic aesthetic, the Australian company has managed to re-create the classic-looking filament bulb, but in an energy efficient manner. The
bulbs are also purported to last up to about 13 years. For more, visit www.edisonlightglobes.com
Peanuts in a podPronounced ka-ka-wa-te, cacahuate is the spanish word for peanut, a legume found abundantly throughout mexico. thus, it was only a matter of time that mexican architectural lighting brand luminosa saw it as the inspiration for their next light fixture. called the cacahuate lamp, the designers have created a sinuous lamp that takes the organic shape of the pod and seed. Available in red and blue versions, the cacahuate lamp will set you back $350 usd (approx `22,000) plus shipping. for more, visit www.lokald.com
