Concord Public School Dear Parents, Carers and Community,
Term 3 is underway with exciting educational programs for all our
students at Concord PS! Over the past fortnight students have had the
opportunity to consolidate their learning through excursions. Thank you
to all the teachers who have coordinated these fantastic learning
experiences!
Early Stage One (Kindergarten) students went along to Sydney Wildlife
Zoo in Darling Harbour. The learning experiences allowed Kindergarten
students to be immersed in their Literacy, Creative Arts and Geography
studies. By all accounts, students enjoyed getting up-close with the
animals!
Stage One (Year 1 & 2) students visited The NSW School House Museum
of Public Education. Students experienced what an average day at school
was like in the 1880s. Stage Two (Year 3 & 4) students went to Botany
Bay and walked the steps of Captain James Cook in 1788. Students
dressed up as members of the Endeavour and learnt more about Sir
Joseph Banks and how he collected botanic specimens. Students gained a
deeper understanding of the Gweagal People of Botany Bay.
On Monday, Stage Three (Year 5 & 6) will head down to The Rocks, to
consolidate their Geography and History learning this year. This
opportunity will allow students to explore British Colonisation in the early
1800s and gain firsthand knowledge about the impact the settlement had
on the Indigenous People.
The outdoor learning environment at Concord is having a make-over! Look
out for the new signage in the playground and the “growth mind-set”
signs in the Caringa stairwell. A few extra outdoor learning spaces are in
the process of being created within the school grounds.

Overall, there will be 4 new outdoor learning spaces across the school
grounds. They include:
• Outdoor Learning Area Number 1 – this will be between the hall and
the library. Work on this area has begun. It will include 2 large tables
and seating to fit an entire class
• Outdoor Learning Area Number 2 – grass area near playground
equipment. The area under the trees, running parallel to the Burwood
Road fence, will also become an outdoor learning area with similar
features as above
• Yarning Circle – the grass area under the trees near the Burwood
Road fence. Due to the shading provided by the many trees in this
area, it has been quite challenging for grass to grow and it is
currently covered in dirt. We have decided that this is an ideal area
for an Aboriginal Yarning Circle – a place where positive
communication is promoted to enhance respect and harmony. This
particular design has been endorsed by the Aboriginal community.
• Outdoor Learning Area Number 4 – seating between the canteen and
Caringa Building entrance.
We hope to have all the work completed by the end of Term 3.
Congratulations to our Zone Athletics Carnival team who represented
Concord on Wednesday 22nd August. Thank you to Ms Grech, Mr Crisafulli
and Mr Destefano for providing students with this experience. By all
accounts the students had a wonderful day and were in high spirits. Extra
congratulations to Joel Fraser, who came second in the 8 years 100m race.
He will represent Concord at the Regional Carnival. Good luck, Joel!

Illnesses over the Winter Months
As the colder months are now upon us, illnesses amongst us all become very common and widespread.
It is very important that if your child has contracted an illness of any type that you seek medical advice
and that they stay at home until they are fully recovered. Sending children to school when they are ill
can be dangerous and it could put themselves and other children and staff at risk.
If you suspect that your child has a serious infectious disease like chickenpox, whooping cough, mumps
or measles, please do not send your child to school until you have seen a doctor. Once you have
confirmation that the illness is in fact an infectious disease, please keep your child at home for the
whole duration of the illness and call the school immediately. Upon their return, you will need to provide
the school a letter from the doctor, indicating that your child’s condition is no longer contagious and
they are fit for school.
If you find yourself in a position where you are unsure what to do, please seek advice from your doctor
or call the school directly.

Changes to Payment Processing for Excursions and
School Events
As of Term 2, all school events that require payment and permission notes will have a cut-off date. This
will generally be 2 days before the event. It will be vital that money and permission notes are submitted
into the blue box in the office BEFORE the due date. This is to allow the office staff 2 days to do the
administrational tasks to process the payments, in order to create class lists for all teachers involved.
Late payments will not be accepted. In order to avoid disappointment, please arrange payment as soon
as you receive the note.
Please note: if paying online through the POP system, payments can take up to 24-48 hours to process
and appear on the school’s system. We strongly advise that if choosing to use the POP system that you
arrange payment at least 3 days before the due date.
Congratulations…

Safe Driving
Unfortunately, there has been a lot of dangerous driving outside the school
grounds at drop-off and pick-up times. As you are all aware, this is the most
vulnerable time for our children where the likelihood of accidents increases
substantially. Please be mindful of where you are parking and where you are
stopping to drop-off and pick-up your children. This is an exceptionally busy time
on the roads and parking is difficult. However, safety is paramount and we all
have a collective responsibility to follow the road rules to keep our children safe.
In addition to this, please be mindful of our neighbours and avoid parking in the
driveways.
