Kindergarten Farm Excursion On Friday the 8th November Kindergarten visited the Bomaderry High School farm. Mr Manktelow and the High School students showed us some potato, bean and zucchini plants. We also got to see some chickens, sheep, cows and a pig. We enjoyed sitting on the tractor and patting the baby chicks. Mr Manktelow even surprised us with ice blocks at the end! A big special thanks to Bomaderry High School for having us! Dear Parents/Carers, Term 4 is disappearing before our eyes! With only 5 weeks of school left for 2019, I hope you are staying informed about school events and end of year happeningsbecause it gets very busy as we lead up to the festive season. Please add all events in todays bulletin to your family calendars and have a fantastic Week 6. School Closure Thank you to our school community for your support and understanding last Tuesday when BPS was non- operational. As you know, a catastrophic fire danger was forecast for the Shoalhaven area. As a proactive safety measure, many schools that were listed on the Departments bushfire register were asked to cease operation for the day. Principals from a number of local schools were asked to cease operation by the Departments WHS team. There was not an imminent fire threat at the time, but the Department was advised to take extra precaution due to the conditions, to ensure the safety of our students and staff came first. Our Department of Education staff worked around the clock with Rural Fire NSW and emergency services to ensure that the decisions they made around the operational status of each school were informed, safety-first decisions. Although the catastrophic conditions didnt affect us, and it has been safe for many of our schools across the state, the ongoing situation in Northern New South Wales continues to affect many of our school communities. We are thinking of these communities, and we express our deep appreciation for the commitment and care of our RFS, volunteer workers and also school staff right across fire affected parts of our state. Achieving our goals Every BPS student has individual learning goals and they strive to achieve these every day. Congratulations to all of these KC students who celebrated their goal achievements last week: Brycin and Ehmjay can count to 100. Kendra, Dom and Thor can count to 30. Damon and Taj can read level 5 texts. Ava knows her friends of 10. Zophia can write a simple sentence and Zahlia can count to 20. Term 4 - Week 6 18th November 2019

service by reciting the poem, ‘Flanders Field’. All four of our leaders did a splendid job and fulfilled their tasks with confidence and respect. Thank you, leaders.

Attendance at BPS Please be reminded that our recent attendance data analysis shows an increase in students arriving late to school. It is very important to have our students engaged in learning from the moment school starts each day. Minutes lost each morning create gaps in learning and often mean students who are late, will miss out on the morning messages about the day and introductions for lessons. It is difficult to be fully engaged with peers and learning when this happens. We need your help to improve this pattern. Let’s keep working hard to decrease late arrivals, before the end of 2020. Quality Work At Bomaderry Public School, teachers ensure that their class has a clear understanding of what they need to achieve during each lesson. This explicit teaching allows students to strive to achieve high quality learning and work samples. Students know the criteria and can work hard to achieve them. Congratulations to four very hard working students from 1/2G. Mr Green has been challenging these students to work on self-directed, project-based learning activities with limited teacher support. Vihan, Chloe, Mila and Lily have created garden boxes with specific vegetables growing near their classroom. The criteria for their quality work were to research a topic, create a product using a procedure and also to present their work visually to others. Well done, quality workers!

It is going to be another warm week for enjoying school. Please remember your hat each day so that you are safe. We are working hard to draft our classes and teaching staff for 2020 at the moment. If you know any families who need to enroll students, please ask them to contact the office. Also, if you know you have a student who won’t be returning to BPS next year, please let us know as soon as possible. Thank you. Aim High – Achieve High Ms Dionne Hanbidge

End of Year School Events: Christmas Carols on Thursday December 5th - Our school community is invited to enjoy our first Bomaderry Public School Carols Under the COLA. If anyone is available to help throughout the afternoon with the barbeque, please contact the office or get in touch with Ms Bobyk. Santa Photos also on Thursday December 5th – during the Carols event, Santa will be here for photos with the kids. These are to be pre-ordered and paid for: see order form with this newsletter. We look forward to having some fun together whilst celebrating the varied talents of our students. Year 6 Farewell on Tuesday December 10th – we always enjoy a lovely meal and celebration evening with our Year 6 students as they prepare to head off to high school. Remembrance Day Last Monday our school leaders all performed important roles to commemorate Remembrance Day. At 11.00am Laura and Rebecca announced the minute silence for the school and spoke over the PA system about the significance of the day and ensured ‘we will remember them’. Layla and Brayden accompanied Ms Hanbidge to the local Bomaderry RSL Remembrance Day Service at Walsh Park. They laid a wreath on behalf of the school and also participated in the

LIBRARY MATTERS

Did you know libraries and leisure sports have a lot in common? Both can take you on an adventure, near or far. Only just last week, the walking group toured Brazil, London, Tokyo and Italy. All made possible via Google Earth during a visit to Bomaderry High School library.

The final Book Club brochures for this year will be distributed this week. A book is a wonderful Christmas or holiday treat – please let me know either on the order form or through the school office if you are ordering a gift and I will phone the parent/carer when the order arrives. Book Club orders are due back to school by Thursday, 28th November. Please note online orders need to be completed by the same date to ensure they are processed with the school order and to avoid possible delay with receiving items. This is the last week of borrowing for the students from the library. Mrs Urquhart – Teacher Librarian
