Several ASU Music Education majors gained valu- able experiencing assisting professors with teaching the students. ASU Music Faculty & YMP Students have Fun at the Ballpark! The ASU Young Musicians Program was started as a way for ASU music professors and students to engage with the local Montgomery com- munity. Throughout the spring semester, Dr. Brenda Luchsinger (Assistant Professor of Horn), Dr. Katrina Phillips (Assistant Professor of Clarinet) and Dr. Cordelia Anderson (Assistant Professor of Voice) met with middle school and high school age students enrolled in the after -school YMP (Young Musi- cians Program) lesson pro- gram.   • Spring 2017 Graduates from the Department of Music

    The Return of Phi Mu Alpha to ASU

    This past spring marked an important event at Alabama State University with the re-colonization of ASU’s Phi Mu Alpha fraternity. The re-colonization effort was led by music faculty members Dr. Bry-an Reeves and Mr. Tyrone Hayes.

    Derrick Smith, BME/BA, Trumpet. Derrick re-ceived a job offer as a Middle School Band Direc-tor for the Mobile Public Schools

    Fred Baptiste, BME/BA Tuba. Fred received a job offer as a Middle School Band Director for the Tuscaloosa City Schools.

    Ezra Sanders, BA, Voice. Ezra received a full tuition fellowship to begin his M.M. in Voice Perfor-mance at the Boston Conservatory in Boston, Massachusetts.

  • ASU Piano Studio News!

    The piano studio at Ala-bama State University, under the direction of world-renowned concert pianist and two-time Grammy Award nomi-nee, Dr. Adonis Gonza-lez-Matos, has enjoyed a recent surge in activity and productivity. Piano majors from ASU have participated in interna-tional music festivals in San Juan, Puerto Rico and at Music Mountain Summer Fest in Con-necticut.
