Rector’s Reflection
The Rt. Rev. Steven Charleston* said recently "It is sometimes
said that the steeper the climb the better the view. There is truth in
those words because spirituality is a form of discipline that requires
focus, dedication and commitment. But faith is not all work and no
play. On the flip side of faith there is an easy way to the top as well, an
ascent to understanding that is gentle, relaxed, and fun. The yoke is
easy, meaning the work of spiritual life is not only meant to test our
strength but to comfort our souls. So if your journey seems to only be
going uphill, stop climbing, sit in meditation, breathe in the Spirit, and
suddenly find yourself on top of the world." In other words, sometimes
we just work too hard to believe. Certainly faith is a discipline
requiring all of our energy and life, AND faith is leaning on God,
letting the other stuff fall away when it needs to and taking in a deep
breath of the Holy Spirit.
As we enter a time of transition, you will be working hard doing
a multitude of different tasks. Every one of you will have something to
do. Furthermore, there will be a bit of anxiety in all of this; what’s
going to happen to this church and what will the new rector be like, will
I like him or her? As things begin to swirl around in a dizzy tizzy, I
urge you to remember to take that time to “stop climbing, sit in
meditation, breathe in the Spirit” so you can “find yourself on top of the
world." God will be there on top of that mountain, God will be here in
the dizzy tizzy time, guiding you every step of the way, listen and listen
carefully. My Greek professor told us to take a deep breath as we
struggled with John’s first letter in biblical Greek; he told us “an
oxygenated brain is a happy brain.” I offer his advice to all of you, take
a breath. And keep praying for this parish, for your new rector, for
yourselves; wrap all of it in the holy time with our Holy Trinity of
person, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. You remain in my prayers daily.
*The Rt. Rev. Steven Charleston, Currently adjunct professor at St. Paul School of Theology in
Oklahoma, retired Bishop of Alaska, and retired Dean of Episcopal Divinity Seminary in
Boston (now affiliated with Union Theological Seminary in New York).

UTO Spring Ingathering
May 2019 Date tba soon! Pick up your blue box in the foyer!! And give thanks!
United We Give Thanks
As we journey through the Easter Season let us pause for a moment to
reflect on our thankfulness for the everyday blessings of our lives. So
many little things along the day slip by us without a silent thank you or a
sense of appreciation. A clean bed to sleep in, a cup of coffee or tea in the
morning as we think about the upcoming day – maybe doing some
shopping, going for a bike ride or taking the dog for a walk. Some of us
will be going to a job, some to a meeting, some to play cards or visit with friends, sunshine after a grey and cold
day, a birthday card from a friend, a good parking spot on a busy day. All of these things we take for granted.
We forget that the day is a gift to us. We take it for granted.
There are many people who are in need of some of our help. Let’s help them through United Thank Offering
(UTO). There are envelopes and boxes in the foyer of the church. Please pick one up and return it to church on
the day of the ingathering of our gifts of thanks.
United Thank Offering is used to provide agricultural projects around the world, mobile shower units for the
homeless, vocational programs worldwide , a food truck and chapel in North Carolina , etc. Grant sites starting
in March this year in Spain, Kenya, Alaska, Arizona, Connecticut, North Carolina, Newark, and Navajoland
Area Mission to name a few. Your Blue Box provides the cash to finance these grants.
It’s easy- Give thanks to God for your blessings. Make an offering for each blessing of your day. Every penny,
nickel, dime, quarter and dollar offered in thanks is given to God’s mission in the world through UTO. Your
blessings become blessings for others.

Ongoing Bible Study Group Wednesdays at 9:00 am in the Memorial Room (Conf. room) The Bible is not just a dry dusty book; it is the story of our salvation, and as followers of
Jesus Christ we find hope and life in the scriptures and stories. Join us for our lively and
spirited discussion of the upcoming weeks Holy Scripture reading. Coffee provided!
During the past month we have been graced with beautiful flower
arrangements at our altar. We thank Nancy Stara for her dedication and
artistry in making our worship space so lovely. We also thank the Altar Guild
under the wise direction of Sue Everett for the marathon of Holy Week and
Easter, this year started with a funeral and then topped off by a wedding. You
roll with the events, always providing this parish with a lovely and appropriate
worship space.
And it wouldn’t be Holy or Easter without several eating opportunities; dinner
on Maundy Thursday, ice cream sundaes on Easter vigil, and a full breakfast
on Easter. Special thanks to Mary Lu Long and Dana Visger for feeding us all year long!
Finally we must again thank our beloved Music Director, Loretta Love. Week in and week out, Loretta
provides us with musical guidance and beauty that marks each celebration separately. She rounds up people to
sing and play, she chooses hymns and she works with choir and wedding parties. She is a gem and a blessing to
all of us. We thank God upon our every remembrance of these people and so many others who contribute to our
worship life.
Holy Thursday Sock Donation
Thank you to everyone!
Thanks to all of you, we made a donation to the People’s City Mission of 403 pairs of
socks!! What a generous group you are!!
A big thank you to those who helped with the Food Bank food
distribution at Hawthorne School: Dan Coffman, Kathy and Russ Jacobson,
Sherry Kent, Nancy & Al Machmer, and Marcia White. If you have any
feedback or suggestions on continuing this ministry in
the 2019-2020 school year, please let me know.

Dear Holy Trinity Family, Rev. Susanna and Vestry,
The apartment in our church basement has been a blessing to us. As our house is being
restored because of water damage we are very grateful for a clean, well-furnished and
comfortable place to live. We have enjoyed a secure, and healthy environment. The
hospitality of our parish has been boundless and incredible!
May God continue to bless you with his peace and grace. Deacon Dan and Nancy Coffman

News & Highlights
In the months to come, the Search Committee, under the direction of co-chairs Michael Norris and Corey
Wasserburger, will keep you posted on the progress of the search for a new rector. At this time and throughout
this entire process, we request your continued prayers for this congregation as we enter a time of transition.
Almighty God, giver of every good gift: Look graciously on your Church, and so guide the minds and hearts of
those who shall choose a rector for this parish, that we may receive a faithful pastor, who will care for your
people and equip us for our ministries; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
Altar Flowers ~ Thank You!
Please join me in thanking the altar guild team who joined me and worked many
hours to create a floral display representing the joy of Easter: Angee Dostal, Sue
Everett, Roxane Graham, Cheryl Hejl, Jane Janesch, Ann Kansier, and Janie Rife.
They awakened the sanctuary by bringing down the pall which covered the cross
and prepared the altar, they brought in flowers from the parish hall and helped
arrange them, they wrapped candlesticks with greens and flowers, they placed a
floral wreath on the baptismal font, they set up the altar for the Eucharist, they
swept floors, put candles in holders for individuals to light from the Paschal candle
at the Vigil and they watered plants. Their work continued after Easter day as they
watered plants and removed arrangements in preparation for a wedding this
weekend after which they will once again return the Nave to reflect Easter joy!
Many of you have taken the time to express your thanks to either Sue or me and we have shared them but, when
you see these individuals, please extend your thanks to them directly. Your thanks means a great deal.
And also my thanks to each of you. Many of you remembered loved ones at Easter which enabled us to create
the joyous Easter floral display but during the year as well, our altar has been a reflection of God’s blessing of
beauty because so many of you have stepped forward to offer altar flowers as a remembrance, celebration or
thanksgiving. Thank you for choosing to contribute altar flowers for these purposes!!!! If you will have a
special occasion in 2019 or wish to remember a loved one, please talk with me. While many of our altar flower
dates have been requested, I am happy to work with you to find a date. Remember that while the church incurs a
cost of $75 each week for altar flowers, you are asked to give only that amount with which you are comfortable.
If you are interested, please call me, Nancy Stara, at 402-489-0739 for more information.

Bedside Manners for Ollie, the therapy dog
At the care center, Ollie slips eagerly
from room to room, greeting each one
of his beloved patients, welcoming
their rheumatic fingers into the fluff
of his finely brushed hair, then suggesting,
as any good therapist does, certain exercises
to relieve their pain and distress—smiling ear
to ear, shaking hands, even demonstrating
the benefits gained by bending and stretching
to pick up a stray crumb or two off the floor,
and emphasizing always the exercise he deems
most important of all—that of wagging their tails.

Summer Dinner & a Movie ~ Friday Night @ Holy Trinity
This year we are honoring women who have made a difference in the world.
Hidden Figures is the story of the contribution of three brilliant African American
women and their contribution to the space program. Noble is the story of Christine
Noble brought up in harsh conditions in Ireland who discovers her life in Vietnam.
Temple Grandin is the story of an autistic woman who has changed the field of
animal science forever and currently teaches at Colorado State University and
serves as a consultant to the livestock industry. This summer we will jump into a
full-length movie together after we share a meal together. Potluck dinners (Holy
Spirit style, meaning bring what pleases you and we’ll enjoy it, too), then the full
showing of the movie, topped off with a short discussion around the table.
The movies this year will be
• Hidden Figures
• Noble
• Temple Grandin
Dates to be announced.
Starts in early June.
Vestry Minutes will be published after they have been approved by
the vestry. You are always welcome to ask the Parish Office for a
copy prior to approval but we prefer to give you the most accurate
minutes that will be entered into our church records.
