Sunday Reflection In Jesus’ day, leprosy meant not only incurable physical disintegration, but also social and cultural death. It was the supreme “plague” which God inflicted on sinners. It is under the image of a leper that Isaiah depicts the sinful people. It is under this same image that he describes the mysterious Servant who expiates Israel’s sin. In this context, Jesus’ face-to-face meeting with the leper takes on its full meaning. We see the unclean before the Holy One, the outcast before the Servant who will be cast out, the leper

who is impure before the pure ones who will be disfigured like a leper. It is in the sinful world that the Savior touches and purifies. The Messiah has arrived. In him, the banished

of society, the living dead are restored. In different degrees, under different forms, leprosy still creates barriers between people. Today’s lepers are the very ill forgotten in hospitals, the marginal poor shut up in unhealthy tenements, the addicts shunned by high-minded societies. Before all these lepers, we ourselves must take part in the simple story of the encounter between Jesus and the leper. For we too must recognize that we are all lepers. We must disclose the sins that we keep hidden. We must cry out in acknowledg-ment of our moral frailty. Thus we regain life and take our places in the community of the redeemed. Once touched and healed, we can in turn proclaim the Word. Rejoicing in health regained, we can welcome the outcast and the rejected, acknowledged in their human dignity.

TODAY’S READINGS First Reading — The leper will dwell apart, making an abode outside the camp (Leviticus 13:1-2, 44-46). Psalm — I turn to you, Lord, in time of trouble, and you fill me with the joy of salvation (Psalm 32). Second Reading — Do everything for the glory of God; be imitators of Christ (1 Corin-thians 10:31 — 11:1). Gospel — The leprosy left him immediately, and he was made clean (Mark 1:40-45).

Please pray for the peaceful repose of the souls of ,

Joseph R. Kessler (son of Joseph & Lorraine),

James A. Dunn (Father of Kelly Mann), Catherine Rose Cararie (Daughter of Bob &

Gretchen Caraie) and Charles (Bud) Revoir (Husband of the late

Patricia Revoir) who recently passed away and are

enjoying everlasting life.

LENTEN REGULATIONS “Rend your hearts, not your garments, and return to the LORD, your God. For gracious and merciful is he, slow to anger, rich in kindness.” (Joel 2:12-13) Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent is less than two weeks away This beautiful season calls each one of us to true conversion. The penitential season of Lent calls all of us to acts of repentance through prayer, fasting and alms giving. Since Lent retains its ancient penitential character, the faithful should be reminded to make the entire Lenten season a period of special observance through the three practices of prayer, fasting and alms giving. 1. Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are days of fast and abstinence. The Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence in the United States. 2. The obligation of abstinence (refraining from eating meat) begins at the age of 14. The law of fasting (limiting oneself to one full meal and

two lighter meals) obliges all between the ages of 18-59. No one should consider this obligation lightly. 3. Those individuals who have a medical condition in which fasting may be considered harmful are not obligated to fast, but should perform

some other act of penance or charity. 4. Pastors and parents are to see to it that minors, though not bound by the law of fast and abstinence, are educated in the authentic sense of

penance and encouraged to do acts of penance suitable to their age. 5. All members of the Christian Faithful are encouraged to do acts of penance and charity during the Lenten season beyond what is prescribed

by the law. 6. As a general rule, a request for a dispensation from the obligation of abstinence on Fridays of Lent will not be considered unless some

serious reason is present. The attendance at social events, banquets, wedding rehearsals or receptions or funeral wakes are not considered sufficient reason to request a dispensation.

WEDNESDAY LENTEN SPEAKER SERIES (Feb. 25 - March25) Our Lenten Speaker Series begins on Wednesday, February 25 during our 7:00pm Mass. If you are looking to enrich your Lenten journey, please consider joining us for these special Masses. Each guest priest will celebrate Mass. Why not consider taking one hour out of your week to grow closer to the Lord?

Leviticus 13:1-2, 44-46 How do you suppose those who had leprosy felt being forced to

live outside of the community? 1 Corinthians 10:31-11:1

St. Paul teaches the Corinthians to glorify God in all that they do. What does it mean to glorify God?

Mark 1:40-45 The leper believed Jesus could heal him and begged for Jesus to do so.

How do you suppose Jesus felt when he experienced this man’s faith and situation?

The Plan’s purpose is to ensure that the parish is effective in meeting the pastoral needs of our parish-ioners on an ongoing basis. A survey of our parishioners is the first step on this journey. The survey is intended to provide Father Bob and the council valuable information about parish-ioner needs and views. We are asking that all members of each household 18 yrs. and older complete the survey. We will be providing more specific information concerning availability and completion in the coming weeks, watch for it in your bulletin!
