Remember all of our deceased loved ones in your prayers

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Happy Ascension and Mother’s Day!

It is not often in our calendars – civil and liturgical –

that these two very important days occur and are

celebrated on the same date. But first and foremost, a

happy and blessed solemnity of the Ascension to

everyone; may the risen and ascended Lord bless us with

the gifts of the Spirit from the Father. Amen

Secondly, a very happy and joyful day to all mothers,

grandmothers and great grandmothers in our tri-parish

area. Today, in a special manner we acknowledge and

thank you for your many and selfless sacrifices borne for

the sake of the lives of all your children. These sacrifices

are evident not only in the human, but also in the spiritual

and religious aspects of your children’s lives. We salute

you and pray that you continue to experience the joy and

the sense of fulfillment in the good work that you have

accomplished. HAPPY MOTHERS DAY!!!

The Ascension of the Lord, which marked the final

departure of Jesus from the disciples, was also a call to

the apostles that it is now time for them to carry on the

Master’s mission of building the new kingdom of God.

In other words, as the first reading from the Acts of the

Apostles makes clear, the apostles are to go on and be

witnesses to the resurrection of Christ and preach in his

name. Obviously, the task was not going to be

accomplished in one day.

In the same way, while we set aside a special day to

celebrate mothers, we all know that, true motherhood

never really ends – it continues to be manifested lovingly

under various circumstances as time goes on in the life of

children. Hence, for sons and daughters, holding

mothers in high regard and thanking God for what they

have done is not a one day affair, but is and should be an

ongoing exercise of honor and respect for them.

As the solemnity of the Ascension today reminds us of

our calling to be witnesses of the good news, may our

celebration of Mother’s Day also reawaken in us our

obligation to always honor our mothers.

Have a blessed week everyone!

Famous last Words

Toward the end of Jesus' earthly

ministry it became inevitable: Jesus would

physically be taken from their midst. What

would happen to this movement so recently

begun? If it was to be carried on with power,

the little band of disciples stood in special

need of prayer. So Jesus offered the High

Priestly Prayer, and asked God to grant

them the same marks of the Spirit we need

today. In that prayer Jesus stressed three

things, First, He wanted them to know the

Christian Gospel, not simply as a pretty

story, but as God's truth. Second, He prayed

for them to be ready to bear witness to that

truth by testifying in all areas of life.

Finally, He desired they be a people who find

joy by fulfilling God's call.

If at first you don’t succeed, try doing it the way mom

told you to in the beginning!
