BEHOLD THE STAR

WITHIN YOUR OWN HEART.

IT BURNS AS BRIGHTLY

AS ANY IN THE HEAVENS.

The magi were lucky. They were given the guidance of a star. In the darkness of this world we have all been given help on our journey to God; the beauty of nature, the Word of God in Sacred Scripture, Spirit-filled witnessing and preaching, the faith of others and our own faith. For a moment let us thank God for giving us stars to lead us to Him . . . . .

FROM THE OFFICE OF THE CARDINAL Dear Friends in the Lord:

Each January within the archdiocese, we are asked to collect a special offering to show our support to The Catholic University of America and the Catholic Communications Campaign of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. We all know The Catholic University as a truly unique institution of higher learning. It is the only one founded by the United States bishops back in 1887. It is also chartered by the Vatican. In every way, the university belongs to each of us no matter where we live. And so, it is incumbent upon us to help with the education of future leaders of our church and nation. Your contributions help to underwrite the university’s financial aid office so that students, young and old from across the country will have access to quality academic and spiritual programs. Just within the past year, several thousand students, including those from our archdiocese, who otherwise would not have been able to attend CUA, were given an opportunity to do so, thanks in large part to your generosity. Also, through the Catholic Communications Campaign, the conference of bishops is able to serve all the dioceses of our nation by providing educational and spiritual programs for radio and television. You should know that one half of your giving remains here in the archdiocese to assist with the ongoing and planned efforts of our communications and technology office. This combined collection will be taken in our parishes today, Sunday, January 5, the Solemnity of the Epiphany of the Lord. I assure you of my gratitude for your generous contribution to these two important collections. And I offer you my prayerful best wishes for a holy, healthy and happy new year, I am,

Faithfully in Christ, +Timothy Michael Cardinal Dolan

Archbishop of New York
