Pastor’s Poetry Post-It

“The Pleasures of Friendship”

The pleasures of friendship are exquisite, How pleasant to go to a friend on visit! I go to my friend, we walk on the grass, And the hours and moments like minutes pass.

“Stunt Leones”

In consolidating at the very start The position of the Early Christian Church. The lions who ate the Christians on the sands of the arena By indulging native appetite played has now been Seen a not entirely negligible part In consolidating the very start The position of the Early Christian Church. Initiatory rights are always bloody Liturgically sacrificial hue And if the Christians felt a little blue— Which people being eaten often do. Theirs was the death, and there was a crown undying, A state of things which must be satisfying. My point which up to this has been obscured Is that it was the lions who procured By chewing up blood gristle flesh and bone The martyrdoms on which the church has grown. I only write this poem because I thought it rather looked As if the part the lions played was being overlooked. By lions’ jaws great benefits and blessing were begotten.

The Music Ministry of Holy Innocents wishes to extend a fond farewell and the best of luck to our friend, Fr. Jordan McConway. Throughout his time at Holy Innocents, Fr. Jordan has always supported our musical efforts and we are very grateful. We have been especially appreciative to Fr. Jordan for making a special effort to address the children during the 9:00 AM mass and use language, imagery and the occasional prop to give the scripture and the liturgy meaning for them. Our children’s choir often joined the other children of the parish on the altar for his homilies that encouraged their participation. All of us wish Fr. Jordan continued success as he begins his new assignment in the diocese of Trenton, New Jersey. We thank him for his service to Holy Innocents, and his participation in our endeavors, including his consistent presence in our annual Lessons and Carols presentation.

All the best, Fr. Jordan!

SIXTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

First Reading: Genesis 18:1-10a The Lord appeared to Abraham, who saw three men standing near his tent. Sensing they were messengers, he hurriedly brought them food and water to refresh themselves. Upon leaving, the men told him that they would visit in a year, at which time his childless wife Sarah would have a son. Second Reading: Colossians 1:24-28 Paul discusses the suffering Christ endured for his Church. He describes his willingness to also endure suffering in Jesus' name. Paul hopes that through his sacrifices, many people will become complete in Jesus. Gospel: Luke 10:38-42 Jesus was welcomed into the home of a woman named Martha. She complained to Jesus that her sister Mary sat listening to him instead of helping with the tasks of entertaining. Jesus told Martha that her sister had chosen the more important task, and should be allowed to listen.

PENNY SOCIAL

Our summer “Penny Social” sponsored by the Family Events Committee was wonderful evening! All who attended enjoyed themselves. Thank you to all the parishioners who donated new gifts. Your generosity enabled the committee to award over 200 prizes to lucky recipients. A big “Thank You” to the adults, teens and children who set up the hall on Wednesday, to those who baked delicious and decorative cakes for our famous “Cake Walk”, to all who worked at the Penny Social, cleaned up and to all who attended and supported our Penny Social. A very special “Thank You” to Jackie Kovatch, Danielle Dispenza and Tricia Mooney who served as chairpersons for the Penny Social; they did an excellent job! Without them and the many people who worked with them, this event would not have been possible. Thanks also to Paul Dispenza who was superb in calling the prizes! It was truly a parish event. God bless you all.
