Swim together or walk on water alone...your choice. Here we are again reading a gospel-lesson that we're familiar with...Jesus and his disciples out on the water experiencing difficulties. Yes, both Jesus and his disciples followers are in trouble. The disciples with the stormy sea and Jesus with his stormy followers. Using the image of the storm tossed boat we can gain an insight into our understanding of faith and our church community. It's one thing to be in a situation ( a boat) with people experiencing the same thing. It's a whole other matter to be in a situation(out on a storm tossed sea) by yourself without others to share in the same vulnerability. Sometimes faith is seeing the boat(church) for what it is.....a shared experience and the opportunity to lean on one another. Yes, church is a group experience of like minded, faith-filled people who can encourage one another in the stormy times of our lives...while waiting on God. I've always believed that a good part of our faith is spent waiting for God to see what He is going to allow to happen in our lives. Patience is a key element of understanding this scripture...even though Peter seems to be lacking patience given his situation. Peter was eager to leave his shipmates and join Jesus rather then waiting for Jesus to join them in the boat. Sometimes we want our own miracles at the expense of others who are in the same boat with us. It's when we stay in the boat... our church...together with Jesus....that the winds and sea can calm down for us. It's interesting that His disciples saw Him and thought that he was a ghost. Why did he look so different to them? Well, for starters, when they left him on the other shore he was fatigued, worn out, and certainly weary from all the preaching, healing, and taking care of the crowds who were following him and making demands of him physically and spiritually. And now after spending the night in prayer and alone...he's refreshed, rested and back in peaceful control. This is another clue for them...that to be good and serving disciples you need to be a healthy disciple...ready for the challenges. If they were paying attention to Him they would have understood that strong bodies and minds are necessary in doing Gods will. Clear thinking, strong faith, and friends to lean on are the key elements of a faith community As you attend Mass this weekend you will be "in the same boat" as the others around you. Though there are no calamities taking place in the church (there better not be!) there may be some of you who may have just come from some other stormy situation. Be at peace! When it's time for the recitation of the Creed you will all be praying for deliverance from problems but also will be professing a common faith in God, Christ, and the church. Look around you...do you see anyone wearing a life jacket to keep their heads above the stormy waters of their lives? Probably not, but everyone is surrounding themselves with the love of God and the support of this Parish community. For those of us who love the water knowing how to swim is essential...it can save our lives. For those of us who love the church knowing how to care for one another is essential, it can save someone else's life. For all of us who know Jesus then saying that He truly is the Son of God will offer us eternal life. Have a great swim...and don't worry about drowning, Jesus is our lifeguard,

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL

Operation Kid-to-Kid Our VBS children raised $96.80 to help dig a village well in a remote area of Peru. Just imagine, $5.00 gives a child clean water for a whole year! The children watched video clips showing how children lived in several different regions of Peru. Watching a child draw water for the day from a dirty river along with the classroom experience really made them see how fortu-nate we are to have clean, running water.

Annual Holy Trinity Church Food Festival

It is time to start planning the best Food Fest ever……and we can only do this with your help!

We need VOLUNTEERS for set-up, clean up and to help in any capacity.

We need VOLUNTEERS to run a Food Booth or assist in a food booth. Currently we have commitments for the Hawaiian, Portuguese, Korean/Japanese, Italian, Wine, American and Salad Booths, Chinese, and a new Cajun Booth. We welcome anyone else who would like to run a food booth with delectable delicacies which you can share with our Parish Community.

We need you to start pickling those Onions, Veggies and Mangoes; baking those scrumptious breads and cookies (freezing baked items will ensure fresh baked goodies on Food Fest day) and making those unique home -made items for sale in a Cottage Store booth. If you have any “connections”, raffle items would also be appreciated! Please feel free to call the Parish Office at 808-396-0551 and pass on your volunteer or donation ide-as. The Food Fest committee will follow up with you to confirm your generous donation of time and/or good-ies.

Stewardship Corner Stewardship at Holy Trinity Catholic Church

Lesson 59 Take Up Your Cross and Follow Me

What do you think Jesus is saying here? Depressed by these words? Perhaps Jesus might be referring to something else here. Perhaps He is referring to a life, not of hoarding or focus on oneself, but a life of giving, sharing and focusing on one another. Stewardship asks us to turn from looking at ourselves first; and to look outward, rising to a new way of life…toward true happiness. We see examples of this at Holy Trinity: parishioners assisting with Family Promise, a blind parishioner who rides the Handivan to Haleiwa to feed the homeless, the homebound who offer prayers for our parish and to all who come to celebrate the Eucharist and share in community with one another. This sounds more like the life Jesus meant when He asked us to …”Follow Him.”
