Diaconate, Priesthood Ordinations Coming up! Ordinations to the priesthood and diaconate are always a great sign of hope for our Church. Like Commencement, the air is filled with excitement for the future. This year, like last year, ordinations to the priesthood and transitional diaconate will be combined. That’s because, this year, there will only be one man being ordained a deacon. Last year it was combined because only one man was being ordained a priest. This year we are blessed with three men who will be ordained priests: Robert Blood, John Kladar and Charles Warren. Then in that same ceremony, one of our very own,
Jack Reichardt, will be ordained a deacon! While the ordination is by ticket only, so most of us will not be able to attend, we will have Jack preach for the first time at the 9:30 AM Mass on Sunday, June 2. I mention this now so you can save the date. Be sure to come out and support Jack as we celebrate with him and his family his commitment to Jesus Christ and His Church. We
will have a reception for him as well after the 9:30 AM Mass. I have enjoyed getting to know him a little these last three years, and I know he will make a great priest. The Church will be blessed to have him serve us as a priest of Jesus Christ. I should also point out that all four men, the three to be ordained priests and the one to be an ordained deacon, are Boylan graduates! Isn’t that great?! It’s a strong testament to our Catholic high school. And that tradition of “Saints, Scholars and Champions” continues—as strong as ever—today. I have no doubt that there are men and women right now at Boylan whose seeds for the priesthood and religious life that have been planted in their hearts are being watered at Boylan. Almost every year we bring into the Church at Holy Family someone who was not
Catholic when they entered Boylan, but see the truth of the faith and ask to be admitted into the Church. We don’t always hear of the success stories in our Church these days, but this is one of them.
Divine Mercy Sunday is here! Be sure to attend our Divine Mercy services at 3:00 PM today. It’s a wonderful devotion that Pope St. John Paul the Great was able to establish this first Sunday after Easter. I recall hearing that at the dinner to celebrate the first Divine Mercy Sunday, our saintly pope said that it was the greatest day of his life. That says a lot, doesn’t it? Let’s all take advantage of this great gift to the Church. St. Therese, the Little Flower, in her writings, mentions the word “mercy” some 75 times. At the canonization process of 1910 her former prioress, Mother Agnes (her blood sister Pauline), was asked why she wished to see her sibling beatified. She replied, “Because it will procure the glory of God, principally by proclaiming his mercy.” The Little Flower’s certainty regarding divine mercy, ironically, stems from motherhood; when but a little girl she lost her own mother. She states: “I have long believed that the Lord is more tender than a mother. I know that a mother is always ready to forgive trivial, involuntary misbehavior on the part of her child. Children are always giving trouble, falling down, getting themselves dirty, breaking things—but all this does not shake their parents’ love for them.” Beautiful words to remember on this, Pope John Paul the Great’s “greatest day.”

Chicago Summer Pilgrimage Join Fr. Kaim on Thursday, August 22 for a one-day pilgrimage to three beautiful churches in Chicago. Our first stop will be St. John Cantius where we will have a tour. This church is nothing less than captivating! The second church that we will visit will be Old St. Patrick's where Fr. Kaim will celebrate a private Mass for our group. The last stop will be at the National Shrine of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini along the Lakefront. Here in a reliquary under the altar, you will find a section of her arm in a glass case -- as well as a fascinat-
ing museum about the life of this most devoted saint (including many of her personal belongings). We will also visit Navy Pier where everyone will have time on their own to have lunch, ride the Ferris wheel or explore what interests you! There are lots of fun things to do on Navy Pier! We ask everyone to be at the parish by 6:00 AM to check in. The approximate time of arrival back to Holy Family is 6:00 PM. We will travel on a coach bus with a bathroom. Fr. Kaim will lead us in some prayers as we travel downtown. The cost is $75 per person. No refunds can be given after August 6. Thank you to all of our parishioners and volunteers who made our first Fish Dinner such a HUGE success!! We raised $1,700 to give to our Youth Ministry Program!!! Thank you, also, to Mike Arduino for the beautiful crucifixes, Event Floral for the spring arrange-ment and Mike Roznowski for his monetary donation. Our volunteers had many tasks, from setting up, wrapping silverware, making the desserts, serving food, washing dishes, scrub-bing potatoes, catching the fish (LOL), cutting lemons, to putting everything back the way the room was when we started at noon. A thank you is not enough for the time and talent each of you put in to this event. God Bless you for everything you did to help our youth!

Rebuilding of the Cathedral of Notre Dame The Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immacu-late Conception in Washington, DC, has set up a fund to help the Cathedral resurrect and rebuild. The Shrine, whose Board of Members consists of the Ad-ministrative Committee of the USCCB, has the infra-structure to manage donate funds. All proceeds re-ceived will be used solely for the assistance of Notre Dame Cathedral and those affected by this tragedy. The Diocesan Council of Catholic Women will be holding their Woman of the Year Annual Banquet earlier for the next calendar year.
