Padre Juan Serna, S.T.L.

Have you ever been moved to the point of having a full heart felt moment of compassion for someone or in an unusual situation? Was this is one of those times when you were compelled to help and to share your God given gift of generosity and gentleness? Would you not say that in that very moment God was present and God gave you a special grace to reach out to others and in the circumstance? In today’s Gospel, Jesus does the same. He “stretched out his hand [and] touched him”. This time, the God-Man Jesus comes and wills to heal a leper who asks for His healing grace. There is great excitement and movement in the whole healing. A leper’s prayer and petition is answered and he is overjoyed to the point that he cannot be stopped but continued to proclaim the wonderful news of having been healed even though Jesus told him not to say any-thing. This was probably the first time the leper had been touched. Think of the last time you were touched by Jesus. What was that way and how was it? Have you brought oth-ers to Jesus to the point of healing and compassion? Was it similar to today’s compassionate healing realized on the leper? Perhaps our “modern leprosies” could lead us to pray as today’s psalmist prayed “I turn to you, Lord, in time of trouble”. At times, we need “the courage” taken by the leper to approach, ask, petition and beg Jesus to touch us in all of our afflictions. Our personal encounter with Je-sus starts when we humbly approach Him to turn all sick-ness and suffering into the joy of compassion and bravely present ourselves, like the leper, before the Great High Priest who fill us with “the joy of salvation”. Let us ask God to heal us and may we be moved and touched with compassion to turn all things into joy. Blessings in His Name. Fr. Juan Serna, S.T.L.

FLU SEASON IS HERE! Due to the flu season at this time of year, we will not be offering the Precious Blood at any Mass. Holy Commun-ion will be given under the species of bread alone. The Diocese has recommended that the faithful be encouraged to bow to each other during the Sign of Peace, rather than shake hands and to not hold hands during the Lord’s Prayer to help avoid the spread of the flu. Gracias.
