Good Catholics who have various talents use them to build up Gods Kingdom in their parish as musicians, lectors, ushers, extraordinary ministers, servers, and helpers at fundraisers. Young and old do their best to promote moral goodness in school acvies, sports and community projects. And their work, your work, is the work of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is alive in the Church, right here, right now. We encounter His presence on a daily basis in every aspect of our lives. We are inspired to reach out to others. We have been empowered to connue the work of Jesus Christ. People are longing to find meaning in their lives, purpose, and fulfillment. They are longing for the spiritual. Perhaps they are waing for us to proclaim with our lives that Jesus Christ is Lord. Today and everyday is Pentecost. The Opening Prayer for the Mass of Pentecost says it well: Father of Light, from whom every good gi comes, send your Spirit into our lives with the power of a mighty wind, and by the flame of your wisdom open the horizons of our minds. Loosen our tongues to sing your praise in words beyond the power of speech, for without your Spirit man could never raise his voice in words of peace or announce the truth that Jesus is Lord.F r . June 10: Feast of Mary, Mother of the Church

Welcome to one of the newest feasts in the Catholic Church! The feast of Mary, Mother of the Church, was established by Pope Francis in spring 2018. This memorial will be celebrated every year on the Monday a#er Pentecost. While the formal celebra!on is new, the honor is as old as the Gospels. Jesus spoke few words on the Cross, but several of them were addressed to his mother and the apostle John. "Woman, behold your son." "Son, behold your mother." This means far more than simp-ly someone to care for Mary as she got on in years and someone for John to celebrate Jewish fes!vals with. John represents all of us, the Church. Jesus entrusted Mary to us as our mother. At the end of the historic Second Va!can Council in the midst of tumultuous !mes, Bl. Pope Paul VI formally declared Mary as Mother of the Church and invited us to pray to her under that !tle. With our recent celebra-!on of the birthday of the Church at Pentecost, we remem-ber that every birth has a mother. Happy Feast of Mary, Mother of the Church!
