My beloved Faithful,

Happy New Year! We once again commence a

new year, and this gift of a new start comes wrapped within our hopes and prayers for bet-

ter days. Although we desire a much different 2021, we must always keep in mind that no

matter what the New Year brings, it is never lacking the

blessings that God gives us and the wonderful mysteries of how He operates in our lives.

As we pray for a prosperous New Year for ourselves and for

humanity, we also look for im-provement in our own spiritual lives. We do this by participat-

knowledge. We will thus continue our discussion of the elements of

worship in the Divine Liturgy in this edition of The Spirit, and, specific to the month of

January, the Divine Liturgy of

days of the year) with the ex-ception of the Anaphora Pray-

veal to us in detail God’s divine economy, or how God inter-vened in the world in order to

save it, through His Son, Jesus Christ. These prayers are said

when the priest offers the bread and wine to God in order to be consecrated.

tire Liturgy from scratch. The basic structure of the Liturgy

was already an essential ele-ment of the Church’s living li-turgical Tradition. But he is re-

Dear Fellow Parishioners,

HAPPY NEW YEAR! Praying you all enjoyed the

Christmas and New Year Feasts! I am sure we are all praying and hoping this

year to be better than 2020. Of course, we know the struggles we encoun-

tered in living. Having to stay within our family

units, constantly wearing masks, and limiting our travel and gatherings was

a great challenge. Nonetheless, it is im-

portant that we continue to thank God every day. When we struggle, we can

think about others in the world that may be strug-gling much worse, whether

it's the virus, poverty, or other conditions. Especial-

ly during these Holiday seasons, we can certainly do a lot to help. Even in

our own community where this is a reality, things like loneliness are hard to cope

with sometimes. So we can do our part, and call some-

one that might like to talk. I am also thankful that we have not lost anyone up to

this point. On another note, we

each have been given the opportunity to spend time with our families. The

blessing of time is an amazing thing, and we should cherish these free

moments to do the things we enjoy with our loved

ones. It is important to continue to thank God in our prayers, morning and

evening, to keep our faith in Him, and that He may

guide us through all chal-

lenges. May we continue to pray

for those that are strug-gling in the pandemic, and those that were lost, may

their memories be eternal and may God grant those families strength to en-

dure. Of course we will continue to follow the reg-

ulations that have been implemented by the state. Masks and social distanc-

ing are a necessity. Please help us to keep safe, and

protect one another. Finally, supporting our local restaurants and busi-

nesses from our communi-ty is crucial in this time. With many losing their

livelihoods and jobs, and struggling to support their

households, it is important that we do our part as a community and reach out

to those that may need some assistance. So, if you know anyone that is in

need of food or assistance, please a call, the church

office, Fr. Niko or myself. We did start a committee to visit the elderly and

those in need, but obvious-ly now cannot for now, so

we have been calling in-stead. Of course, we all en-joy calls from friends, fam-

ily and loved ones unex-pectedly. This Christmas and New Year season, we

can’t visit the elderly, but Continued on page 3...

was able to express them poeti-cally and prayerfully for the

faithful when we are immersed in the mysteries of the Divine Liturgy.

We as Orthodox Christians are blessed that we can experi-ence the prayers of St. Basil’s

Liturgy since they are read aloud so that the entire gath-

ered assembly of faithful may hear these prayers that reveal the teachings of the Church

about the nature of the Holy Trinity as the consecration of the Holy Gifts is about to oc-

cur. It is very easy to get lost in

the Liturgy, whether it is in a good way or bad way. As hu-

man beings, we are susceptible

to losing track of our attention, and it happens to each one of

us when we attend Liturgy, even the priest! Knowing that a long road awaits us when we

attend liturgy, it shouldn't be something we dread or just ‘want to get over with’ but ra-

ther an experience that we rec-ognize requires patience, con-

centration and a willingness to ‘stick with it’ all the way until the dismissal. This also tests

our deepest desires about what we truly need in our lives. If we

are able to do that, then the rewards are boundless. So the next time we attend

the Liturgy, St. Basil’s or St. John Chrysostom’s, let us re-member to put aside all of our

worldly desires and only be concerned about the Heavenly

Kingdom of God. Let us con-

centrate on the prayers being said, observe the movements of

the service and prepare our-selves to receive the King of All in the Eucharist. Again, a most

blessed New Year to all of us, and may God grant us a most prosperous 2021 filled with His

love and compassion for man-kind.

With fervent prayer for a healthy and a truly blessed New Year!

It is appreciated! Please contact me with any concerns or sug-

gestions. I truly miss everyone. Stay healthy and safe.

My Dearest Ladies Philoptochos Society ~

As we welcome the New Year, I wish all of our beautiful Holy Trinity families a very blessed 2021 filled with love, peace and pros-

perity as well as good health! As you know, our Vasilopita luncheon will

sadly not take place in January. However our beautiful ladies, who are always creative, decid-ed it would be nice if we made Vasilopitas for

our loving community. To place your orders please contact Marianne Boutsioulis or my-

self. Also see the attached flyer for further de-tails. And many thanks goes to Marianne Boutsioulis for chairing this event as well as

baking the Vasilopitas along with Argyro Tze-pos, Nicki Gagas, Janet Gagas and Joanne Kel-sey. Without you ladies this would not be pos-

sible…Thank You! The Ladies Philoptochos Society supports

many varied areas nationally as well as locally and is highly regarded for its philanthropic work. I have said this many times before and

will say it again and again, we are the founda-tion of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church and it is our job to help where help is need-

ed. With that in mind, we need to keep our Fri-day’s Food Pantry filled during these winter

months especially with COVID. Our food pan-try is for those who are less fortunate and are

in need of food for their families. I ask that you

remember Friday’s Food when you are shop-ping and drop off items for our pantry. Giving

is what it is all about during the Holiday Sea-son!!! And lastly, I ask that you please consider be-

coming a member of our Ladies Philoptochos Society so that we can continue to carry on our charitable work and become an even stronger

and better Chapter. Together…We can make things happen! Together…We can make a dif-

ference! This past year has been extremely challeng-ing for all of us. But we are so very fortunate to

have one another and this loving community where we can lean on each other through good

times and bad times. Keep positive and stay strong Holy Trinity families…there is a light that is shining bright for 20201!

One more thought….Always believe some-thing amazing is about to happen! On behalf of our Ladies Philoptochos Socie-

ty, we wish you all a very joyous, happy, safe and healthy New Year!!!

God Bless You All!!! Yours in Love and Friendship ~

Happy New Year! Xronia Polla! And may your

year be filled with health and happiness and God’s Blessings! Many thanks to Marianne Boutsioulis, Eleni

Bouzakis, Nicki Gagas and Nico Ververis who decorated (and cleaned up) the church to make

it extra sparkling and beautiful for Christmas and Epiphany. The Youth Choir sang beautiful-ly to spread good cheer with Christmas carols.

Thank you for your enthusiasm and singing to bring in with joy the birth of Our Lord and Sav-ior Jesus Christ.

St. Nick also came to visit all the children and the church parishioners on December 6th

and handed out as tradition the coins to help all of us in need. May we all share that “golden coin” with someone this year.

January classes will begin after we celebrate Vasilopita as a church community. Who will

win the coin this year? Don’t forget to jump up and down 3x!!! for Good Luck! January Schedule

3rd: No Classes - Vasilopita 10th: Regular Classes

17th: Regular classes 24th: Regular classes

31st: Regular classes

The Sunday School students will be brought back to the church after class and meet their

parents. Thank you for meeting the guidelines and social distancing as we continue to navi-gate these times. It truly is wonderful to see the

children in class and learning about our beau-tiful faith, through the dedication of our amaz-

ing teachers. Any youth is welcome to join choir! We need your voices! Come join us and celebrate the

service through song! Wishing all who celebrate their Birthday in January a very happy day! And to those cele-

brating a Name Day, Xronia Polla!

According to Greek Orthodox tradition, the month of January is the time for home blessings. This beautiful tradition is an extension of The Feast of the Theophany (or Epiphany) on January

6, when we commemorate Christ's Baptism and when Jesus sanctified all the waters of the world. The Liturgy on this Feast Day of the Theophany concludes with the service of the Great Blessing of Waters. At the end of the service, the priest blesses the congregation and offers a

bottle of Holy Water to all parishioners to take home. Additionally, this beautiful tradition extends to the homes of all parishioners, as this blessing

is also offered for family homes and businesses by sanctifying our personal living space with the newly Blessed Water as we extend the Grace of God to our own individual dwellings. Therefore, Fr. Niko will be visiting the homes of parishioners that wish for this blessing in the

New Year. Thus, during the month of December, small blue cards will be offered in the nar-thex and the parish office for anyone that is interested in signing up. Once submitted, Fr. Niko will contact you to schedule a day/time for the blessing.

Christian Stewardship is…
