HoloLens Basics  Powering On and Off A HoloLens  

HoloLens 1 Press the button on the back left side to power on. The Windows logo will appear on your screen. To power off, hold the button for 5s until the screen displays “Goodbye.”  

 

HoloLens 2 Press the button on the back right side to power on. The Windows logo will appear on your screen. To power off, hold the button for 5s until the screen displays “Goodbye.”

HoloLens Gestures 

Select Using Air Tap (HoloLens 1 and 2) 1. Use a hand ray from your palm to target the item. You don't need to raise your entire arm, 

you can keep your elbow low and comfortable. 2. Point your index finger straight up toward the ceiling. 3. To perform the air tap gesture, pinch your thumb and index finger together and then 

quickly release them.  

  

Opening and Closing the Start Menu 

HoloLens 1 - Bloom Gesture 1. Hold your hand in front of you so it’s in the view of the HoloLens 2. Bloom: bring all of your fingers together then open your hand. 

 

HoloLens 2 - Start Gesture 1. Hold out your hand with your palm facing you. You’ll see a Start icon appear over your 

inner wrist.  2. Tap this icon using your other hand. The Start menu will open where you’re looking.

Connecting your HoloLens to Wifi 1. Open the Windows Menu using the Bloom (HoloLens1) or Start (HoloLens2) gesture. 2. Select the tile that says No Internet. 

 

  

3. Select your network, then select Connect. 4. When prompted for a network password type it and then select Next to join your 

network.

Installing the HoloLens App 1. Connect your HoloLens to wifi through the Windows Menu. 2. Find the Panoptica Review app on the Microsoft Store by searching "Panoptica Review” 

or scanning the following QR code:

Installing the Companion App iOS 

1. Search for “Panoptica Review” or use this link: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/panoptica-review/id1483806193?ls=1

Getting Started 1. Print the VizworX floor marker attached to the end of this document and place it on the 

floor of the space where you will complete the model review. 2. Ensure your HoloLens and the Companion device are connected to wifi, and your 

HoloLens brightness level is increased. 3. Open the HoloLens app and Companion mobile app. 4. On the Companion, press CHANGE SERVER: 

 

  Note: to connect to the last-connected server, click LOGIN on the Companion instead. When not having connected before, this connects to the Panoptica Demo environment. 

 5. In the text box below that appears, change the URL to a known Panoptica server, and 

press CONFIRM. This should be provided to you by your company.

6. The app will then prompt you to log in to the specified server. Enter your email address and password if you have a known Auth0 user account on this server: 

 

  

Note: the server may have additional ways to log in, such as using Google G Suite. Use the method that your company has recommended to you. 

 

7. Proceed through the log in steps. If using an Auth0 username and password, press CONTINUE:

9. Once you have completed calibration, you will arrive at the list of model reviews you have been invited to. On the Companion, tap the SAGD Wellpad model review to enter it:

11. If it is your first time joining this model review, you will start in the model review’s Lobby, and your Companion will display the Dashboard.

 12. Next, we will enter a scene in the model review. Click on the SCENES & SPAWN POINTS 

tile or the Scenes tab in the navigation model to get to the list of all scenes.  

  

13. Tap a scene in the list. This will reveal Spawn Points that can be jumped to in that scene. Tap any of the Spawn Points in the list (such as Platform Side 1 in this example) to jump into the scene at this location:

14. The scene will take a moment to download:  

  

15. After downloading is complete, you will find yourself at your selected Spawn Point location and are now ready to review the scene.

Companion User Interface Navigation Menu  

  The Navigation Menu will always be at the bottom of the screen. This allows easy access to: 

1. Home (known as the Dashboard) 2. The list of scenes and spawn points 3. The list of tasks 4. Active participants in the model review.

The Dashboard page has four tiles that contain details to the model review you join: 1. Scenes: allows you to jump to different spawn points or scenes in the model review. 2. Tasks: tasks can be checked off and are assigned to participants or to a scene. 3. Participants: the list of participants in the model review, each of which can be followed. 4. Offset: Offsetting allows you to translate or rotate the 3D model seen in your HoloLens. 

  

Settings To access the app’s Settings, press  the button on the Dashboard.

Calibration You can recalibrate your device at any point during the model review. Press the SETTINGS button in the Dashboard and select the CALIBRATE button to complete the calibration process:

  After it successfully calibrates, a success message will appear on the Companion and you will be placed back in the scene you were just in:  

  If you press the SKIP button, a notification message will appear on the Companion and the scene will remain unchanged:

Leave A Model Review  You can leave a model review at any point. First, press the SETTINGS button in the Dashboard and select the LEAVE MODEL REVIEW button.  

  The Companion will now take you back to the list of your model reviews. Now, you can select another model review to join.

Sign Out If you want to sign out of the app, press the SETTINGS button in the Dashboard and select the SIGN OUT button.  

  

The Companion will take you back to the Login screen and the HoloLens is now unpaired:

Scenes Tab You can use the Scenes tab to go to a different Spawn Point in your current scene, or load a new scene. Spawn Points are different locations within a scene that you can instantly move to.  

  A Lobby is a scene that is typically a miniaturized version of the entire project featured in the model review. To go back to the Lobby, click GO TO LOBBY. The HoloLens will reload the scene and take you to the Lobby.

Tasks Tab Use the Tasks tab to monitor and check off tasks created for your model review.

Clicking a task will bring up a more detailed view of it, where you can see who has also checked off the task, and if it is assigned to anyone specific:

Participants Tab Use the Participants tab to see who else is in your model review, and to follow others.  

  

To follow someone, click FOLLOW by the user’s name who you wish to follow. Upon following another user, your scene and spawn point will change to be theirs, as will any offset they apply to their scene. This is useful for allowing a team lead to ensure everyone is with them, for example, especially when reviewing multiple scenes and traversing multiple spawn points.

To stop following someone, simply click the FOLLOWING button by their name:  

  

Offset You can move the scene around in small increments by clicking the Offset tile in the Dashboard:

 This brings up a menu which allows you to translate and rotate the scene:  

  

Press beside your desired axes to adjust the scene in metres or degrees.   Note: if you have others following you while adjusting offset, they will see the scene move, too.  To reset your offset, click the RESET button:  

 

 Object Selection The blue selection button is an alternative way to select an item in the model without using the HoloLens tap gesture. If you press and hold the selection button, it will expand the button, making it easier to press.

 To select an object, use the selection button or the HoloLens tap gesture. You will see your selection arrow appear on the object you selected.  

  

BIM Data BIM data can be viewed on selected objects. First, select an object so your selection arrow is visible.

The Companion will automatically display any data attached to this object.  

  From here you can attach a text or image note to your selection.  

Creating Notes Text and photos can be left in the scene to record findings and opinions in your model review. To create a note, select an object, and then click the LEAVE A NOTE button. This will bring up the note-taking window, where you can create a note for others to see: 

 

  To create a text note, type your message in the box and press the send button to submit it.

Press the CONFIRM button, when you are ready to take an image. This will take a screenshot of the current view of your HoloLens.  

  

A rotating note icon will appear in the scene where your selection arrow was, and your new notes will be visible in the Companion.

You can add more notes to this collection of notes, called a thread, by using the text box and photo button there.  

  Other participants can see your notes, and they can add their own notes to your thread. Click on rotating note icons in the scene to view the messages and photos left by other participants.
