Below this was a stamp of black ink that read “Paid in Full.” No strings attached, I was free to read my new books. As we consider Christ’s payment of the penalty for our sins, we must recognize that it provides a ‘no strings attached’ freedom from sin, guilt, shame and Satan’s dominance. The debt of our sin is “Paid in Full.” Christ does not hold it against us and God the Father sees us as cleansed by the blood of the Son. The forgiveness is full and complete. God does not hold our sin nearby, ready to use it against us in order to control, manipulate, hold us hostage or force a relationship. The offering is a complete payment of the penalty for our sin. The acceptance of Christ’s payment is the choice of each person. The forgiveness received is complete and the relationship with God is made new. As we consider our personal relationships in life, there are times where our relationships with persons have suffered due to wrongs they have committed against us. While we are often quick to express forgiveness, actually granting the forgiveness is sometimes a different story. We like to leave some strings attached. Sometimes we do this for protection; sometimes for control; and other times out of mere habit. Regardless of foundation, the result is a relationship that is never made new. Healing never reaches the place of restoring the fullness of the relationship. Trust and honesty vanish. Distance arises. The result is a relationship that isn’t. Our relationship with God is built on the foundation of true forgiveness. It grants the means for the beautiful relationship we have with God. If our relationships with others are built upon this same principle, we shall be blessed with beautiful relationships with one another. Blessings in Christ, Pastor Cliff

Holly Calvary UMC “A Life-Giving Church”

Connecting people to people and people to Jesus through

the gift of life-giving relationships.

Coach’s Corner: Forgiveness

Recently, I purchased a couple of books on Amazon. When my shipment arrived, the enclosed bill listed the cost of the books plus tax and a total for the entire order.

MINISTRIES

We had our Mega Kids fall kickoff on Sept. 18th! We had a great time singing, playing games and eating pizza. Starting Sept. 25th, we will begin studying the Old Testament, including creation, Adam & Eve, Noah, and Abraham and Isaac. October 30th will be our annual “Harvest Party”. Wear your costume and invite your friends! We will have fun games, great food and lots of candy. If you would like to donate candy, please see the sign-up sheet in the hallway. We are looking for more people to be substitutes. If you would be willing to help out when needed, please contact Barb Nickels at 248-904-6899. There will be no Mega Kids on Nov. 27th due to the Thanksgiving holiday.

Tuesday mornings 11 am to Noon

Hour of Prayer ministry meets Tuesdays 11am to

noon. Praises to God, prayers of concern, celebrations, and other things the Holy Spirit lays

on our hearts are lifted up to God.

During October one area of prayer will be for faith during trials, as is stated in James 1:2a, 2c-3:

Consider it pure joy….whenever you face trials of

many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.”

During November one area of prayer will be for

grateful hearts as stated in Colossians 4:2 “Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.”

Any written prayer request placed in the “Prayer Box” in the foyer will be prayed over and kept

confidential. Call Mary Jane Winohradsky if you

have any questions at 248-634-3839.

PRAISES

On October 10th I am getting an award at both of my jobs. Mega Kids started up on September 18th and I am so glad they are back. Mike and I are playing music for them and we play at worship on Wednesday nights too. Come worship with us on Wednesdays at 6:30pm.

paper and hygiene products during our monthly ingathering. Our pantry in-gatherings are on the 4th Sunday of each month. Our next in-gatherings will be Oct. 27th and Nov. 24th . There are no income requirements to use the food pantry. If you are in need and would like to utilize the food pantry, please come Mon-Thurs from 9:00 – 2:00 p.m. Each person may come twice per month and receive two bags of food, plus one toilet paper, paper towel & detergent.

Thank you to everyone who helped with the summer

blood drives! Mega Kids made $1110 to support our

programs! We had many people who volunteered,

donated food, helped with set-up and clean-up and of

course, those who gave blood. We appreciate our

church family that is always there to lend a helping

hand.

Our food pantry is doing great! Thank you to those who donated non-perishable food items,

Thanks to all who participated in the September

Rummage Sale: buyers, contributors, advertisers, those who set up and tore down and those who gave time during the sale. The profit of about $1500 will be used by the UMW for church, local, state, national and international works.

Thank you to Jack Gmelich for helping change my tire in the dark. You made what would have been a very frustrating experience into a nice one. I really enjoyed our conversation. God Bless You! Heather Swantek

It is with heartfelt appreciation and warm thanks that we, the family of Martha Alexander,

wish to express to our Calvary UMC family how firmly we felt your love for our mother and us. Your generosity, the beautiful celebration of her life, cards, prayers, friendship, phone calls, wonderful dinner and especially the hugs will never be forgotten. We don’t know how we would have gotten through those sad days without you – all of you.

Sincere thanks, Shirley & Ron Brendel and family Jim & Cindy Alexander and family Bruce & Kim Alexander and family

Library Corner – by Judy Wood

The Passion of the Christ – A Biblical Guide- by Greg Laurie

I know it is not Easter time but I believe we should never forget what Jesus did on the cross. This book touched on the movie The Passion of the Christ, yet Laurie went on into the people and events leading up to the Crucifixion step by step. It is a very simple guide for understanding the importance and depth of Christ’s coming death and resurrection. Through the cross and the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ we are heirs in Christ for those who choose to believe. Amen!

The Indispensable Holy Spirit– by N. A. Woychuk

This book is about the moving of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is God the Father, God the Son and God the Spirit. I really liked the segment on not quenching the Holy Spirit. A believer brings sorrow to the Holy Spirit by acting contrary to all the fruits of the Spirit. In this book it entails all that the Holy Spirit is and how He works. Remember Jesus said in John “and I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you.” God in Spirit form who is with us always. I challenge you to read this book and let me know if you liked it too.
