    TASTERS IMPROVERS

    These sessions are for beginners who want a taste of sailing and for those working towards a qualification.

    These sessions are for sailors with a qualification who want to continue to gain instruction each week to improve their skills.

    The Beginner course covers skills such as sailing upwind and downwind, tacking and gybing, sail setting, rigging and wind awareness. The Intermediate course gives people the opportunity to develop their existing skills and knowledge and introduces the 5 essentials, man overboard and coming alongside.

    Our 120 acre lake, situated at the foot of the Pennines, offers spectacular views and reliable winds an ideal sailing venue for all ability levels. The Activity Centre offers a complete range of courses for all ages, from beginners to more advanced sailors and instructors. All of our courses are run to the guidelines and recommendations of the Royal Yachting Association, the governing body for sailing in Great Britain.

    During these sessions you will learn to analyse your own performance, develop your understanding and become much more independent sailor. This programme is designed to build confidence, skills, knowledge and equip you to take part in club racing.

    TASTERS IMPROVERS

    These sessions are for beginners who want a taste of kayaking and canoeing and for those working towards a qualification.

    These sessions are for paddlers with a qualification who want to continue to gain instruction each week to improve their skills.

    Using both kayaks and canoes the beginner course covers skills such as launching, paddling forwards and backwards, turning and steering. The Intermediate course gives people the opportunity to develop their existing skills and knowledge and introduces efficient paddling techniques, ruddering, moving sideways and deep water rescues.

    Using our lake and various off-site locations, the Centre offers a range of kayak and canoe courses form basic introductory flat water courses to exciting river trips and moving water training. All of our Paddlesport courses and activities are run in line with the guidelines of British Canoeing , the governing body for paddlepsorts in Great Britain.

    River skills sessions are for intermediate paddlers and a great way to experience the thrill of white water paddling on local rivers.

    These sessions are for windsurfers with a qualification who want to continue to gain instruction each week to improve their skills.

    The beginner course covers basic skills such as windsurfing upwind and downwind, tacking and gybing, up hauling, rigging and wind awareness. The Intermediate course gives people the opportunity to develop their existing skills and knowledge and follows the up to date RYA syllabus including using a harness and beach starts.

    Hollingworth Lake is a popular venue for windsurfing due to the good clean winds and a large water area. We have a wide variety of boards and rigs to meet the requirements of all windsurfers from beginners to those working towards instructional qualifications. All of our windsurfing activities are run to the guidelines and recommendations of the Royal Yachting Association, the governing body for windsurfing in Great Britain.

    Hollingworth Lake Water Activity Centre has a long record of Powerboat tuition. Whether you need a qualification for professional use, an introductory course in powerboating or you are looking to buy your own boat, we have the ideal course for you. All of our powerboating courses are run to the guidelines and recommendations of the Royal Yachting Association, the governing body for powerboating in Great Britain.

    POW ER B OAT I N G

    This course will teach boat handling and seamanship in powerboats with an emphasis on safety. The course will be run in our range of planing Rigid Inflatable-hulled Boats (RIBs). The course covers leaving and coming alongside, man overboard recovery, anchoring and background theory. The Safety Boat Course will cover rescuing

    other water users and provides skills and techniques for those escorting race or training fleets. The course also covers dinghy rescue and windsurfer rescue.

    Pennine Bridleway, Lee Quarry and Rochdale canal on our doorstep we have rides suitable for everyone. All of our sessions run in line with the CTC guidelines and are delivered by fully

    Outdoor Climbing

    The centre manages the climbing wall at Littleborough Sports Centre a five minute drive from the lake. The wall has various routes to suit children and adults of all abilities and has an accessible hoist. Hollingworth Lake is also situated amongst the dramatic grit stone crags of the South Pennines with something for everyone. All of our climbing activities areprovided by qualified coaches.

    children and adults of all abilities. Indoor sessions are run at Littleborough Sports Centre and participants can enjoy the challenge of hitting the target whilst improving their focus and flexibility

    Over recent years the centre has developed a range of different kids clubs to cater for the vast range of ages, abilities and needs of our younger customers. These kids clubs are run by our qualified and experienced staff and can act as anything from a first introductory session to a specialised training session.

    Throughout the school holiday periods we offer a range of activities for 4-14 year olds to introduce young people to the exciting world of outdoor pursuits. Our activities range from single hour taster sessions for younger children to 2 day courses and activity programmes designed to teach the skills and techniques required for National Governing Body qualifications.     Mini splash for 4-6 year olds

    Multi Activity for 7-14 year olds

    These sessions are an ideal introduction to watersports and a great way for younger children to build water confidence.

    Running during the school holidays over three days Multi Activity sessions are an ideal introduction to outdoor pursuits. Activities include sailing, windsurfing, kayaking, raft building, mountain biking and climbing. These activities are subject to weather conditions and the time of year.

    First Step Course for 7-10 year olds A course designed as an introduction to either Sailing or Kayaking.

    Youth Qualification Courses for 10-14 year olds These National Governing Body courses offer training in the basic skills and theory of your chosen sport, working towards the relevant qualifications.

    Advanced Courses for 10 14 year olds The next step for children who have a keen interest in their chosen sport. These courses cover the more intermediate skills of sailing, windsurfing and kayaking.

  • Hollingworth Lake Water Activity Centre offers safe, enjoyable learning opportunities that link into to the National Curriculum and the learning outside the classroom manifesto. We offer a variety of packages that cater for pupils at Key stage 1 to 4 and beyond. The centre holds an Adventure Activities Licence allowing it to provide adventurous activities for people under the age of 18. This ensures standards of safety provision, suitability and condition of equipment and qualifications of instructional and safety staff.

    National CurriculumOur activity sessions and programmes support schools in delivering the PE curriculum and ensure that children take part in outdoor and adventurous activity challenges both individually and within a team (National Curriculum). Our activities also cover other elements of the curriculum such as Science, Mathematics, Geography and History. Adventurous activities support the teaching of the following National Curriculum requirements:

    We can bring Adventure to your school with our Outreach Adventure Service. We can offer archery,

    mountain biking shore trax (purpose built off road course) and problem solving all at your venue,

    cutting out any transportation costs and saving your time.

    of pupils and provide a wide range of activities for full days or even a week.

    We are very proactive about providing accessible activities for people with disabilities.

    There are a wide range of activities available including sailing, canoeing and kayaking

    together with climbing and access bikes.

    All Ability Adventure

    (Key Stage 1) These one hour sessions are designed to build confidence in children from 4 years old in open water, swimming ability

    is not essential.

    college and university courses such as GCSE PE, National Diploma in Public Services and

    Sport & Outdoor Development Degrees.

  • Hollingworth Lake Water Activity Centre is very proactive about providing accessible activities for people with disabilities or special needs. Staff at the Centre have received an extensive amount of training and work closely with the Link4Life Disability Development Officer. There are a wide range of activities available including sailing, canoeing and kayaking together with climbing. Activities can be developed to be suitable for people who just want to come and try, through to people wanting to do personal performance awards.

    Examples of watersport activities are the Canadian Canoe rafts which provide a very safe and serene way to enjoy the water and lake, through to the dynamic Dart 16 catamaran which can zip along at great speed. In addition to the activities we also have equipment for supporting people. This includes a hoist to get people from their wheelchairs onto the activities and specialist seats for assisting people to sit up on the activities. If you havent done any watersports before, come along to our Taster Day or give us a call for a chat about what you would like to try. Contact the Centre for details.

    Hollingworth Lake Water Activity Centre has been one of the leading providers of instructor training in the

    North West of England for many years. We provide instructor training in the

    following sports (subject to demand) Sailing, Powerboating, Windsurfing,

    Paddlesports and Mountain Biking Trail Leader. We also run the Royal Yachting

    Association 8 hour first Aid Course. Please call us for further details and up

    Booking Conditions and Payment

    Individual bookings

    Payment can be made by credit/debit card, cheque or cash. In order to confirm your booking, individual booking forms must be accompanied by full payment. Any booked places without payment 14 days before the start date, will be deemed as unrequired.

    Group bookings

    Group booking forms, to be invoiced, must be signed and fully paid, prior to

    the start date of any course or session.

    When signing the booking form you are agreeing that all information supplied is correct at time of booking.

    If an amendment is required to any invoice, a 25.00 administration fee will be charged for invoice cancellation and re-issue. Any cheques should be made payable to Link4Life.

    Cancellation by the ClientCancellations more than 28 days before the start of your course or activity will be subject to a 10% fee. Cancellations more than 7 days before the start of your course or activity will forfeit 50% of the course/activity fee. Cancellations within 7 days of the start of your activity will forfeit the full course fee.

    Any applications for redress on cancellation fees owed must be made in writing to the Community Facility Manager.

    All course fees are non-transferable within the 14 day period of the start date of your course or activity.

    Cancellation by the CentreAlthough we will make every attempt to ensure that your course runs as scheduled, the Centre reserves the right to cancel any activity if booking numbers fail to reach a workable minimum, adverse weather conditions prevail, unforeseen circumstances occur or any other condition deemed by the management to have a substantially adverse effect on the quality of the activity or safety of those involved arises.

    Should the Centre cancel any activity, we will offer the following options: to rearrange the course for a suitable date and time, a place on an alternative course, a full refund of the course fee.

    What is included in the course fee?All protective and safety equipment (helmet, buoyancy aid, harness etc) is included, together with instruction and use of onsite facilities. Where required we will also provide hire of wetsuits and/or waterproofs and transport from the Centre to your activity, and return journey. Certificates and logbooks for full NGB qualification courses will be provided, other than BCU adult courses. Course fees do not include footwear, towels, meals and drinks

  • Clothing and Personal ItemsIt is recommended that you consider the prevailing weather conditions and time of year of your activity when selecting clothing and equipment to bring with you to your course/session. This includes suitable soft-soled footwear, swimwear, towel, shorts and waterproofs plus extras like, food or drink, any medication you require, sunblock, hat and gloves! Specific information can be provided at time of booking.

    Health DeclarationPlease note that our activities take place outdoors and can be strenuous. When making a booking please advise the centre of any medical issues and/or special needs e.g. asthma, epilepsy, heart conditions etc for all participants by making sure that you complete and sign the Health Declaration on the booking form. Such conditions will not preclude involvement in the activities although it may be worth consulting your GP beforehand.

    Our instructors need to be made aware of these conditions prior to the start of your activity. Swimming ability is not a pre-requisite, although water confidence is required to take part in any of our water based activities.

    Arrival times and Car ParkingPlease ensure that you arrive 15 minutes prior to the start of your activity or course. The on-site car park is pay and display. Please ensure that you bring enough change with you to pay for the duration of your stay with us.

    Use of Photographs, Video or Digital ImagesThe activities on offer at the Centre are often recorded by use of photographs (film and digital) and/or video. These images are often used in internal reports, displays and presentation.

    Some images may be used for external publicity and may be viewed by the general public. If you do not wish your image or images of your group to be used for such purposes, please tick the box on the Participation/consent form.

    Gift VouchersGift vouchers can be purchased for any specific activity, course or session available at the Centre.

    These can be purchased for any value, to allow the recipient, to choose their activity. These vouchers make an ideal gift and can be purchased at reception.

    Our rowing boat fleet is available for hire on weekends from Easter October and on weekday afternoons

    throughout the school holidays, depending upon the weather conditions (please call the centre regarding availability to avoid disappointment).

    Rowing boats are for 45 minutes and cost 10. Please note that under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

    Xplorer is a fun family challenge aimed at primary a

    nd pre-school children and

    their parents, grandparents and guardians. It is an

    outdoor navigational challenge

    for the whole family to enjoy and involves a healthy

    mix of physical activity and

    decision making.

    Using a simple map of the park the aim is to find the

    points marked on the map

    and write down the name of the secret animal and

    learn an interesting fact or

    answer a multiple choice question depending on th

    e course.

    No experience of map reading is necessary, and Xp

    lorer is perfect for children

    as they can run around in a safe and friendly enviro

    nment and will have a great

    adventure searching for the secret markers. Paren

    ts are encouraged to join in the

    fun and could even create family teams!

    Explore the lake path, find the markers,

    complete the challenge and have fun together.
